Not sure if this is a controversial take or not but I think the retro / origins figures are great for people who grew up with the original line since the original toys have deteriorating rubber that's very hard to replace, but the 7" line is more appealing to me personally since I didn't have the toys when I was a kid.

Nah that's fair. I must be an exception though because I'm in my mid-20's but prefer Origins for the gimmicks and chunkiness. I bought Revelations Stinkor just for the head/armor and I really didn't like how the body felt.

same here. the original MOTU form factor is just iconic. the origins buck just seems like the penultimate form of that vintage body. If they didnt start excluding gimmicks I would still consider the line perfect instead of just "great".

So I finally got my Reborn Skeletor for CGI. What a small, insubstantial, rather disappointing toy. I expected something big like Beast Man, it feels smaller than a normal figure despite being taller than Skeletor and He-man.

I know, kids line, can't expect miracles, but I think Reborn Skeletor and Ram Ma'am are by and far the worst toys in the line. He's dinky, she's boring. A lot of the rest was great though. Most of the rest either look great or are fun knock around toys. The Evil Warriors especially stand out.

Stratos isn't even half bad.

yeah I can agree with that. Part of me expects to see a Hordak variant by then aswell. Like with Heman, he's too tied into the slime pit to avoid the opportunity for reuse.

Unrelated but what do you guys expect Mutant Skeletor and He-man will look like? My initial guess is Battle Cat He-man and Snake Skeletor but they could also just pull something out of their asses. It sure would be nice to receive the Williams Jr comic with these figures.

It's nice, double sided back drop art inside the box and all the gear is in a small box with vykron printed on it. Haven't played with it yet but I expect a standard mv experience. I'd rather have it on origins but I've wanted a version of these since like forever ago.

Heating up the areas you can remove and swap:

Boots cut areas, feet, arms from the bicep joint, legs from the thigh or off the hip socket itself.

Hands and heads popout for swapping without needing heating.

Hardest part is the loin cloth ... you have to use enough heat to soften it and keep applying heat to be able to stretch it. I used an embossing heat gun which also added the risk of burning the items if I wasn't careful but generated alot of heat fast.

It's a good idea especially if you don't mind the white loin cloth. Then it's a straight swap for me I use my savage he man as a oo-lar stand in with the extra head from viking he-man.
So I used a cheap he-man buck. Heck I bought 3 of them ... one for this. One was going to be dyed to faker but since they finally made one he's going to be a vykron tank or space version not and the other is going to be dyed to be ae he-man.

I have a sun man I bought for 12 bucks who is giving his wings to the sorceress and is going to probably be the tank vykron since he has a green loin cloth

A dollar store had Rev Skeletor and I picked him up. I gave the Havok staff to New Eternia Skeletor. I was hoping that his blue buck would look good with the orange Vkyron space gear.

I might be in minority but I hope we wont get more toy crossovers after Rulers of Sun. This is MOTU Origins not Brawl Toy All-Stars. If they do make more, I'd prefer them to be separate toyline, like the WWE. I wouldn't want to see spot that could be taken by Extendar or Blade or Batros wasted on Andre the Giant or Huk. I'd only make exception for Butterfly Woman (but only after She-Ra toys start moving) and Fuerza-T (though I would be perfectly happy with just main 8 that was actually released)

Sup, I grew up collecting the vintage 80's MOTU figures but dont really have any idea about modern MOTU toys. I wanted to buy a good, modern skeletor, Hordak & He man figure, but any other characters are also an option if the figure is good.

I saw that Mondo toys did a really nice Skeletor & managed to snag a preorder for pic related when i first found their site. I was looking at the others on Ebay but fuck those prices. The only other mondo fig i found for an ok price is Hordak, who i'm tempted to get next but I dont know if he has a different edition with loads of accessories like skeletor or not? Do mondo ever reissue the older releases later or is the only way to get raped on ebay? lastly which heman figures are good? mondo heman is crazy expensive but looks great, is 40th anniversary heman or one of the masterverse line decent? any others worth considering?

I cant answer any of your mondo related questions since Im too much of a poorfag to ever buy one, and as such, have no experience with the line. I can however point you to some worthwhile origins and masterverse offerings.

In the case of Skeletor you're pretty spoiled for choice. The 200X Skeletor from Origins is a pretty solid place to start frankly. He's cheap and got a nice look to him. If you want something a little more visually interesting from origins, then the rise of evil skeletor is probably your better bet. His rhinestone eyes give him alot of prescence. That and the abundance of accessories he comes with. If you're okay with getting stuck with Kronis then I completely recommend RoE Skelly. The rest are all variants based of the vintage figure, different box art depictions from over the years, and pre-existing alternate costumes Skeletor had from the previous three installments of the franchise. Masterverse has the most impressive variety of Skeletors however. Langelator, Intergalactic Skeletor, New Eternia Skeletor, and Horde Skelly are the four most impressive incarnations from that line imo. There's a handful of others like skelegod and CGI, but the four I already mentioned are the most standout releases. That said 40th Skeletor has yet to see retail release. So all things considered if you want an upgrade of the vintage figure anyone of the classics skeletors would be your best bet. The Robot Chicken variant remains the cheapest "standard" skeletor in classics. The classics versions of both intergalactic and laserlight are also pretty affordable, but that comes at the cost of gimped articulation.

He-man, like Skeletor, has dozens of alternate looks to choose from in both origins and masterverse. At the end of the day your pick will come down to whatever look you prefer most. For my money however Thunder-Punch and Flying Fists represent the apex of origins He-men. Ofcourse there's the standard vintage head release too, but if you're after spectacle those two should be the first guys you look at. Masterverse He-men are much spottier by comparison. Savage He-man is the best looking of the Masterverse releases followed closely by the 40th anniversary He-man and Viking He-man releases. The revelations version suffers heavily from being butterfaced and the battle armor one just doesnt tickle my fancy.

Turtles are not part of Origins, they are a separate line. Some folks are saying it'll be Origins compatible like Masters of WWE, but others are saying it's done Playmates TMNT style.

As for Monday, all Mattel's designated YouTube and Facebook shills have early copies of the SDCC exclusive and on Monday they're going to tell us what it is.

I get it, im a fan of the snakes but completing any team in origins is a massice ball ache. Initially I was really taken by Rattlor, and I still am, but the prices on that bastard are such a mess I decided it would be more worthwhile to save up for that snakeman 4-pack. Because if it's the latter you're not exactly working with much in the quality department. Youd be excluding Strongarm, Shokoti, Batros, Kittrina...Who are you gonna do? Garth and Negator? (And for my taste even that's stretching it for worthwhile characters)

I just get fired up over savage. Never got mad about a toy like these before. The issue that flipped my switch was the hair rendering the head immobile and just nit picked it all as time passed. Paid full price for the set when my target got them, I was excited for a new orko and I was right on it being the only version available (so far) in masterverse. I don't know what it is about him visually that puts me off so much, but I hate what the 4H did with him. He looks terrible. classics blasty got shafted the same way classic IG Skeletor and Extendar did. instead of tooling a new buck they cheaped out and slapped a rubber smock onto the basic classics torso. that alone makes the figure into an unfun brick. with all the use they got out of the dedicated character torsos from earlier in the line you'd think they would have put the same effort into the last batches of vintage characters they had to cover. In the end it would have benefitted both mattel and the consumer but instead they cheaped out.

Cool. My internet cut out during the Teela vs Lyn battle and I decided it wasn't worth trying to watch it again, so I only found out about the Horde reveal from these threads.
Reading up on her, she is voiced by Meg Foster in Revolution, who played Evil-Lyn in the original movie, so that's a cool cameo at least. I'm still going into this with lowered expectations though.

I absolutely love the head and colours, but the proportions of her arms are fucking weird, her torso too long in the lower regions,
good hips, but as the legs go down it morfs into baggy pants tier

lower arms too fucking long, bellybutton below elbows

her hip joints remind me of the xesray female figures wich I really like
but this is almost painful in how much it's "almost there" as a really REALLY fucking cool figure (that for me has nothing to do with motu)

also 12 inch is gonna harder for me to commit to

The style is different though. Sun Man in Origins is just the classics done in the the modern Origins style, while the Masterverse is done in an almost New Eternia style.

You could also say 200x in Origins is basically "what if 200x was released in the 80s", while in Masterverse they'd be closer to the show. But who knows, they have a lot going in the line right now, maybe they don't want to get too crazy. CGI and Sun-Man have both only had 2 releases. She-Ra has 4, NA has 3, movie has 2, so maybe they have too much going, on top of the main releases of Revelation/Revolution and New Eternia.

Two-bad, Clawful and to a degree Webstor definitely felt more 200x inspired than any of the other New Eternia figures, which had more of a vintage combined with concept art feel and the occasional Filmation bone thrown in like with Clawful's harness. That's my feeling. I was surprised that we got a NE Whiplash instead of the Rev design, and Rev Whiplash is one that seems likely to happen now that we have Motherboard coming.

I've never actually sat down and watched 200X properly before till the last couple days. I didn't realise how much it took from Filmation after the initial opening miniseries.

That said, I think CGI was stronger. 200X isn't bad by any regard, just it's not an engaging watch. I'm 13 episodes in, I couldn't name a single episode I really liked or character. Colour pallet is kinda boring to look at too.

I was expecting something more narrative based, not literally Filmation but worse in a great deal of aspects.

I do see why this failed back in the day and why I didn't watch it when it came out. The competition in Ninja Turtles, Armada, YGO and Beyblades were all much stronger. Better looking, more engaging and frankly, better toys.

Not just CGI, but I think Filmation was an easier watch too.

It's a weird thing, I like the character designs, hate the colours so much. The lack of contrast just doesn't work. It's the real is brown of cartoons.

I hate saying this, I want to like it a lot more than I do, but I can easily see finishing it then never thinking about it again.

I mean, I'm 13 episodes in, might get better, but I'd like a stand out episode of a 26 run like Beast Wars or Animated. Actually, this consistent middling reminds me of Hanna Barbera. I kind of feel like I'm watching GoBots again.

200X is a weird series. It's missing that momentum that goes through a Filmation episode, so even though the stories told are better and the characters are stronger, it feels like a drag to watch.

Stand out episodes for me would be the Mek-a-nek episode with Count Marzo (ep 12). Marzo is a full on bad ass in the 200x series. Price of Deceipt (ep 32) has Skeletor about to sacrifice Evil-Lyn to a tentacle monster, but is also a flashback episode showing how they met. Power of Grayskull (ep 35) tells the story of the original King Grayskull who singlehandedly fights the Horde 1000 years before He-Man's time. King Grayskull is also a megachad who married his Sorceress, rode a green lion, and goes on a quest to learn his true power is inside himself. I don't have anything against black Grayskull, but Revolution should have made him a different character because he could never be as cool as the 200x version.

But yeah, the lack of energy that Filmation has, Cartoon Network that hates anything it didn't create and putting it in bad time slots, and the toyline doing too many He-Man and Skeletor variants to warm the shelves made a perfect storm for failure.

So did I, but it's very middling. It lacks those super memorable episodes its contemporary in Transformers had. I couldn't name you a favorite Gobots episode.

I think a lot of the toyline stuff is excuses, despite most of the versions being retarded and unappealing. I was the right age at the time, I can tell you straight, the show was not appealing. YGO and Transformers Armada had it beat 8 ways from Sunday. Writing quality doesn't matter if the show isn't engaging with appealing characters, especially when you're trying to keep kids and sell shit. The show is ultimately the unholy combination of ugly and boring.

That said, the Sy-Clone episode was the first one that felt the way it should. It got me to pay attention. That's kind of the turning point for the series for me. I get why you'd say Count Marzo, but I felt the Sy-clone episode was more on mark.

Probably helps Sy-Clone looks cool, has a great moveset and just looks like a toy I'd want to own. He stands out in all the right ways, I wish the show looked more like him.

I just finished Roboto's Gambit. I'll chug through it, but yeah, I think it's plain as day why it failed and it had everything to do with the show.

You know what vibes I'm getting though? Dragonflyz if anyone remembers that. Same energy.

One is Fitor being caught by the Guardians and the way Cy-Kill doesn't hesitate to mount a rescue operation, he doesn't even go on a rant about his incompetence over having been caught. In fact, the way the Renegades seem to be extremely loyal to one another despite their obvious personality flaws was unexpected to me.

The other is the one where the Renegade infiltrate the Guardian Academy and somehow manage to pull it off despite having the most obviously evil names imaginable, with one of them literally being named TRAITOR which is just fucking hilarious

All retailer exclusives suck if you aren't a seppo. At least the Mattel Creations site ships internationally and for cheaper than BBTS can, even if I've heard their customer service can be a crapshoot.
Fuck Target for not shipping internationally or to freight forwarders. Faggots. Thankfully Two-bad and Whiplash were timed exclusives, but there has still been no sign of NA He-man, Skelly or Slush Head at the usual online places outside of Europe.

I thought it was they wanted 200 and got offered 150. I can see why they'd want it to be big and done well so that it isn't a one and done. I guess if they're serious about it taking off (what with their CEO saying it's as big as Marvel/DC) then maybe it makes sense to not make compromises. Screwing Netflix out of 30million is quite the power move too. I'd assume their future at Netflix is pretty did after Revolution.

I'm not saying it's bad, just completely forgettable as much of HB's 70s and 80s output was. If it didn't have the "shared market demographic" thing with Transformers, we'd probably remember it as much as we do Turbo Teen, Sky Commanders, or Pound Puppies.
