Menasor has always been one of the worst combiners in G1 (followed by Superior). From the limb bots barely contributing and just kind of being slapped on, which is especially stupid looking for the legs because they're backwards looking even less like he has cars for legs, to the main body having nothing resembling Motormaster anywhere. The whole thing just looks like cars on some other body instead of Motormaster transforming into a torso. It's a fools errand to try to replicate his toon look for these MPs because you have no choice but to use big stupid pantsuits with Motormaster just kinda turning into a clump to plug in the back. It's physically impossible to make it look accurate without that. I'd do much rather see them forgo toon accuracy and come up with something else that does let Motormaster actually contribute. Fuck, base it off of the toy instead of something.

The limb cars on the fanstoys one just feel way too small and absorbed into his contour.

After years I'm feeling like getting one of these high end combiners.
But let's pretend like I don't know too much about them.
What are the main companies to look at? Fans Toys, X-Transbots, and...?

Actually I suppose the main question is which teams/conponents would I have any trouble getting a hold of now that they may be out of production

buy the Jinbao Devy + the upgrade set. Its enormous & better value than any of the other options. Its still easy to obtain & costs a fraction of the others.

Well if you want Bruticus, I think MMC probably has the best atm
Superion has the Dreamstartoys one that's slowly releasing and Fanstoys one for hyper G1
And Menasor best one atm is XTB and soon to release Fanstoys one
Only XTB Menasor and MMC Bruticus is complete though and G2 Menasor looks cool though it's not quite the right colours

>XTB for G1, toy & G2. Dead End may be hard to get for G1 but they did say they will reissue it. Toy is easiest set to complete with everything readily available.
>DX9 is also complete. Recently reissued but Motor Master is yet to be released.
>Fanstoys. Most expensive & incomplete atm but got news last tfcon. Wait for reissues if you are starting this set, the prices on the second hand market are not worth it.

Superion
>Zeta toys for G1. Combined mode is solid but individual bots are a bit lacking. Also, you'll have spare pants left over when not combined.
>Dream Star Toys. More Bayverse looking than G1. Nice stylised version if you want a change. Not complete.

Bruticus
>MMC. Great individual bots, complete & all readily available. Combined mode is a bit weird but its all in one so no spare pants or trailer when left uncombined. Shorter than MP scaled combiners.
>Zeta toys. Same as Superion, choice of toy or toon versions. Very stable combined mode.
>OS Warbotron KO. Cheapest of the lot. Heavily stylised but not a bad figure.

Its getting slightly better. G2 Ramjet by Maketoys & a G2 inspired Springer by MMC is a good start this year. The Euro G1 stuff from Fans Hobby is also a good addition so its getting better after years of next to nothing.

I grew up with Armada and while I don't own any of the bots, I think this looks like everything I could have ever wanted.
I'll never get the complaints about it not being super accurate but I'd be more than happy having this, it's just that the QC on the original coloring Prime has me concerned.

I think it would be a lovely addition to Motormaster's vehicle mode but that shit is going to be $400. I love the alt modes so much but not for that price.
Honestly the thing is probably going to be packaged in trailer mode for shipping purposes so that's gonna be a first to my knowledge of FT putting something into alt mode into a box. Which I find neat all things considered.

65$ is such a weird pricepoint for these. These either need to be way cheaper so looks don't matter or increase the size/budget so that they can actually look like the art.

For sure, and that's not a bad thing. It's like how Beast Wars used the toys' transformations (or was that another season? I can't recall).

This isn't an objective statement, so not much to say there.

Regarding the prototype, I wouldn't assume those are final colors. Culltap looks like a production sample, the 2 in the back look like resin prototypes, and given the colors and lack of paint details, I'd think that Witchshot is a test shot, not anything reflective of production.

what i mean is, out of PlanetX Kadmos or XTrans Star Blade which figure is better in general, does either have anything wrong that is a dealbreaker?

also does XTrans even still exist? I dont keep up with third party companies, I read they were supposed to bring out a victory Leo to combine with their SS but I get the feeling that was a really long time ago & I cant find any definitive answer on if that is even going to happen anymore.

Bought these guys in a triple pack the other day. I was wary of getting 3rd party stuff at first, but these guys look way better than any of the official Insecticon figures. Hell, FoC Shrapnel and Bombshell don't even HAVE official toys, so even if I was deadset against 3rd party, this was the only option.

I got Eris, and she's a pretty fun figure. Those hands pop apart pretty easily though, so really thinking about just gluing the little peg down. Maybe I haven't messed around with her too much, but she doesn't move quite as well as I'd like, but she's still a good figure. I wish that Prominon was at the show, I would have grabbed him for sure.

I'd definitely be in for a more figures like her and Optus. Over the top articulation like fingers make for fun toys. I do also kind of wished she was reworked a bit more, like her horns being able to be at the front of her vehicle mode (it's so close, but because of the cover they can't stick out), and giving her a single larger cannon rather than the dual cannons.

That's something for you to decide. Between her and something else for 130, which would you be more interested in getting? I got her for 160 or 165cad, which is less than 130usd. Is the figure itself objectively worth that much? Well, she's an exclusive, I got her almost like a souvenir of TFCon, I like Armada Megatron, and so I'm mostly happy with the purchase.

Quick pros and cons, her upper body looks great, with a lot of good detail. The face looks much better in person compared to the pics shown. I like the articulated fingers. Some cons are that the hands can explode when trying to pose them (not hard to put it back together) and I find that the legs look a bit plain. They're long too, so they feel a bit underdetailed compared to the rest. Like her rounded feet and overall thinness of the legs. I also quite like the transformation and vehicle mode. It could have had some improvements, and changes from Eris Kultur, but it's an easy transformation (aside from getting the cannon between the legs) and I think it looks good. If I had to pull a review score out of a hat I'd probably say 7.5/10. Not quite as fun as I'd hoped, but a good looking figure overall. I certainly feel no need to get another Eris figure though, if it was the same mold with some details.

that aside, great use of the mold, would've considered it if it wasn't FH, nothing against them but every product i've gotten of their's I ended up selling off in the end (Power Baser, Nightbeat & Goshooter and Naval Commander), hopefully the Powermaster Jets break that cycle cause they look sharp as a tack

If you mean the hinges, just hold them securely while moving them the first time. They'll get smooth enough no to break by moving them normally after juste one move.

If you mean the balljoint sockets, I don't think you can avoid it. It seems some legs have a bigger balljoint that will split the sockets but it's pretty much invisible and probably random. If one of your socket breaks, simply fix it with glue and sand down the ball.

Filing or shaving down the rectangular tab helps a lot but if that isn't enough, you may want to VERY carefully shave down the L-shaped tab. Don't overdo the L-shape tab because it's the only thing locking the leg in.

Given that STC's whole deal is being a smaller robot with a bunch of armor pieces making it a bigger robot/truck, it's pretty likely the wings detach and reattach depending on if you want small robot/truck or the big one.

Yeah, they're probably detachable, although I think every toy incarnation of Nova Prime has been a base figure with powerup armor, so I shouldn't whine. I like that the truck is like a freaking rolling fortress.

I get that it's a teeny tiny piece and would have been REALLY difficult to pull off but I'm still a bit disappointed that they didn't at least try to replicate the inner mechanical detail somehow like they did with Grimlock's neck.

I would say no. I own the G1 colors and it's a fun toy but you can really tell it's their first all-built-in figure. Some joints aren't strong enough, the overall proportions are barely OK, it's shorter than the other combiners they're working on... I'm sure some other company will make a way better Bruticus in the coming years.

I would have liked it if there was a set of alt hands that had a flat back or something so they would appear more flush with the body in the armored up mode. Because even if you turn the hands upside down they still kind of look like hands.

I agree that it's not a big deal mind you, I just think that would have been a good solution for those who are gonna be leaving it in the armored up mode most of the time.

Back from finishing cooking dinner

Some notes on the transformation.
The clearance to swing the legs down with the back panels is way too close, not quite in the plastic flex range but feels annoying.
The wrists were super fucking tight, i could see someone fucking up the thumb by pushing them wrong.
The head platform is on a weird pin, it needs to be pulled up on the pin before it is able to spin around, then pushed back down the pin before collapsing the chest, i can also see someone snapping that not realizing it slides up and down

As for the final robot mode, it looks stunning, paint is simple but the colours make it pop off hard. Extremely smooth surfaces all over, i lean more toward enjoying a bit of greeble but i wouldnt knock it for being smooth.
He really needs heels, his weight is toward the back and top with the rocket and wings and his feet are very forward facing, so he wants to tip back.
2 of the 8 missiles don't fit on his back due to how the wings fold up and im not finding anywhere to store them.
Its a real miss imo that the visor is painted and not also made of the same clear as the rocket tip as well, something about that clear plastic colour takes me right back to being a kid

Sorry anon, i gave it a try, but for some reason his hips didnt want to line up to make the tail bit no matter what i did and i started to get that nagging feeling that if i kept trying i was gonna ham hand something, not taking the risk, im sure he could do some aproximation of the bird mode, having watching a video for double dealer, most of the stuff is still there, but im not forcing it
