As my main MOTU collection is Masterverse, all the NE reveals in particular. I think they're all looking great. I'm not incredibly keen on the Revolution ones, but that they all have different looks than their traditional counterparts (aside from Gwildor), I'll at least consider them. I'd love for them to start tackling some more of the less popular characters, and really give them some new flavor in NE, like Ninjor. I'd love to see what they could do with his design.

I'm also pretty excited about the Filmation inspired Origins. The new base body looks really nice, I think, and them all coming with Filmation items is the kind of shit I really enjoy. For example He-Man will be an almost definite buy because I always love the Sword of the Ancients (which NE Trap-Jaw also has, though it's more of a short sword than the usual long sword).

Getting a new Gwildor figure already. I would've assumed he'd be treated as barrel scrapping
Action coming back for characters where it matters. Extendar especially. After Mekaneck I thought he'd def be gimped.

Not excited for vintage to go to MC while Filmashit takes over retail. I could handle thr Filmation stuff if we were still gonna get deluxes and vehicles from vintage in stores, but it doesn't look like we will.
Also not excited that still no Blast-Attak in either line.

Considering "Spring 2024" will most likely start creeping our in October or November in time for Christmas (the same way thr first wave of Snakemen did last year, and the Buzz-off wave the year before), I'd say it will be anytime over the span of October to March or April.

I think Frog Monger was said to be a Spring release too and he went up in January for preorder. Maybe they'll stagger it. Like Rokkon in Oct, Night Stalker in Nov, break for Christmas, Extendar in Jan and Sy-klone in Feb?

I think I'll give thrm ONE chance at least to prove the MC exclusive route won't be shit.
I'll probably skip Rokkon and Sy-klone since I'm not a big fan of either but try for Extendar. If it goes OK, I'll stick around. But if it's a frustrating experience like Frog Monger was or I end up missing entirely because of quick sellout or other bullshit, I'll bail too.

Maybe they're saving him for MotUs birthday in October? Maybe, like, they KNOW he, Sy-klone and Modulok are the most desired, so thry purposely wsnt to split them up to pair with less noteworthy guys? Sy-klone can carry Rokkon and Extendar, Two-Bad can carry Rio-Blast and Stonedar, and Modulok can carry Blast-Attak and Dragstor?
Thrn by that point we just have to do the last 3 leader variants and they can carry the Energy Zoids and movie guys

is it just me or was this year's SDCC totally barren? going off recent memory it seems like every other year yielded alot more news and hype. somehow this last one came and went like a fart in the wind. even outside of MOTU I get that vibe. part of me wants to blame it on the recession and the capeshit craze dying down.

I think the leaks and rumors kind of killed it, because many new things were already known about going into it. If we hadn't had heard about Lady Slither, the Funimation guys, etc. then I think it would have been a much bigger surprise for all of us.
Also we're getting down to the wire with who is remainig to get Origins figures, so its become more of a checklist at this point. I think they really should continue making more OC stuff to keep the line afloat. Funimation I think will only help a little bit.

If they could fit Origins figures they'd be fucking massive. I doubt they'd ever partner in this capacity (at this time TF is a lot bigger than Mattel, so unless they give them a much bigger cut, I don't see why they'd place nice). Mattel could always try to make their own transforming robots, but who would they really be for (unless we got new media where it made sense, or something).

if you go the "big enough to fit origins" route the bot modes are going to look hideous. part of the reason the joeformers turned out so poorly is because of all the sacrifices that had to be made for the sake of their vehicle modes. The best compromise would be doing crossover bots in a human alliance esc scale that could be compatible with the MCX figures.

The thundercats are locked in warner's vault, Matty doesnt want to revive Street Sharks, and they dont have any interest in blackstarr either. save maybe a ghostbusters or transformers crossover, turtles is their best bet.

if you want to get rid of them all your best bet is bunching them up in a lot for 100-150 bucks. alot of your guys are beat up and seemingly missing accessories. moss man, mosquitor, merman, mekanek, trapjaw, and triklops look to be the best of the bunch and could probably sell for decent money individually because they're complete.

I work as an art booth at several conventions a year and im considering making MotU/Spop charms/keychains and maybe a print or two but im not sure if anyone would actually buy it. Should i even bother with it? I really want to but i also dont wanna make a bunch of stuff no one will buy

It just hit me that this Filmation thing is probably going to be a permanent thing, not just a 1 year theme like snakes.
Biggest thing being that they said vintage would be finished on MC, so there's nothing to "get back to" after a year.
Secondly, the new buck...you just now they'll wasn't to absolutely get the maximum they probably can out of it, so they'll probably redo everyone that appeared in the show if it lasts that long.
Thirdly, people were saying this was so they could "get the main cast back on shelves". OK, so if Filmation did only last 1 year and then next year was another new theme like 200x or Revelation, we'd be starting from square 1 every Jan so the line becomes just "here's the same 12 characters every year" which itself isn't sustainable. Oversaturating the same characters is just as bad as relying too much on obscure names.

So, yeah, I get the feeling this is a long term thing. Probably two or three years of Filmation before the next reset push, assuming the line doesn't tank?

Just for fun, I got a question for you guys:
So, thry said each figure in the Filmation line would come with accessories from a specific episode, and the card art would reflect the episode that the figure represents. Like Skeletor will be "Masks of Power", Beast Man will "Dragon Invasion", etc.

So, pick a character (or multiple characters). Tell us which episode the character should represent AND what unique-to-the-episode accessory they should come with.

To get the ball rolling, a couple examples
>Clawful should be "Dree Elle's Return" and come with the Horn of Evil
>Ram Man should be "House of Shokoti part 2" and come with Shokoti's seal from the entrance of the Temple of Darkness

Yeah, I feel very frustrated by this. They're going to want to get the most money out of the steel molds for this new cartoon buck... but Wal-Mart and Target couldn't even sell a wave with the Sorceress and Buzz-Off. If Mattel tries to branch out to any character we don't already own, we're going to be right back to pegwarming like Origins Wave 7.

It's a downgrade for her, as well.
First season she was brand new and had a perfect opportunity to carve out her own identity.

Now she's just black girl MAA. She has his job, gets a variation of his costume, uses his tools.

I'm gonna draw a comparison with Jaime Reyes. He took the name of Blue Beetle from Ted Kord, but he is very clearly not just ethnic minority replacement and nothing else. He very noticeably has his own identity. Visually distinct, unique set of abilities, doesn't fit the exact same niche. Whether you actually like or hate him compared to Ted, you can at least say he's his own character, and that's why he has staying power.
I have a feeling you WONT be able to say the same of Andra.

I would. There's always been two extremes of MOTU shows I've wanted to see and a grittier conan esc mini comic inspired one is certainly high on my list. The other is more of a whimsical sword in the stone/shazam take that plays out like an old fantasy adventure film with silver age comic book elements.

Take those masks for example - can anyone remind me what was their deal, in a way that will actually make them sound interesting? No one knows what Trap Jaw has but some speculate it's Eternium from Double Edged Sword. I guess they couldnt give it proper shape because a) it would look like shit b) TJ wouldnt be able to hold it without open hand. And do you want to take his only hand to grap things?

Half the time it feels like mattel doesnt know what to do with MotU and just always goes back to "remember the 80s????? Remember thr old thing????"

MotU is so imaginative and can be anything. I just wish mattel would put the work into it and stop making stupid choices. Spop only was good cause they let it have like 50 episodes. Why the fuck was cgi so short? Why is revelation/revolution so short? They keep cutting stuff before it can get good and it's so frustrating.

Id be open to motu doing whatever w chars cause they chars are fun. I just feel v frustrated w mattel cause it feels like theyre putting effort into barbie or Monster High then making the bare minimum effort with MotU. Motu CAN be big with the average person if they just tried.
I dont care what this board thinks of spop but it was so popular then mattel made stupid decisions that made them unable(or unwilling) to make bank on it.
They still have done barely anything from 200x. They let the naked stratos wave almost kill the line.
I think origins and masterverse are really good toylines but i feel like mattel is doing the bare minimum to get ppl to care.
I like all the old stuff even if im in my early 20s but i feel like mattel is scared to really push motu forward idk.
They can't bank on 80s nostalgia forever.

I would honestly consider getting a Faker like this if I end up getting the first waves they've shown off so far.
Faker is one of those perfectly 80's concepts from my zoomer POV. I love hearing the stories on here of boomers who had one, or saw other kids with a Faker, and thinking it was "cold He-Man" or something like that. I can only imagine how much confusion he may've caused.
I'm hoping that one day they make a water color change Faker that can turn from blue to caucasian. That would probably be the best Faker they could ever make.

I would hope Mattel is not so stupid to front-end load the line too much.

With regular Origins they had the good sense to pace themselves from almost the very start, putting Scare Glow in wave 2, Roboto and She-Ra in wave 3 and Hordak and Ninjor in wave 4 instead of blowing their "muh 12 back" right out of the gate.
If they're smart they'll blend in a few less obvious choices in the wave after what they showed off to string out the biggest names a little.
Maybe the next wave could be Tri-klops, Orko and Kobra Khan, follow it with Evil-lyn, Fisto and Mekaneck, etc etc

I think what you are describing is that motu needs to find a way to update itself but keep the essence of what makes it special. The CGI show was a big departure and other than paying lip service to motu with names and some of the broad strokes ideas, it really could have been anything.

One thing I consider is that I would shove in all of Heroic Warriors and Evil Warriors, even if they're going to be mostly extras with few lines. I'd make sure that they have at least one moment that pays attention to them (e.g. Skeletor's invasion starts with Mekaneck spotting them coming in a distance) so we can look at them and get their gimmick but overall for example, Kobra Khan, Whiplash and Webstor appear together in a scene where generic mooks would do just as well. Just for the variety and sense of wonder to so casually see all those characters walking around.

But the final battle would truly recreate that "kid bashes all of his toys together to recreate one of those MOTU posters" feel as all heroes and villains would have a big showdown probably in front of Castle Grayskull. No giant faceless CGI armies, just established characters so everyone gets at least a tiny moment and the whole fight would be very carefully choreographed and planned out so characters are taken down one after another leaving only the main characters like Beast Man and Evil-Lyn until it's just one final duel between He-Man and Skeletor.

Masters of the Universe movie should be an epic adventure, with a sense of fun and wonder, memorable characters, and thrilling action.

Then as we enter the third act, He-Man would find himself in a pickle.

He-Man: But how can I possibly reach Skeletor before it's too late? The path is long and surely filled with dangers.

Man-At-Arms: We have only one chance. You have to take Attak Trak™!

He-Man: Attak-Trak™, you say? What's that?

Man-At-Arms: It's my latest invention. This Battle Machine is your only hope!

Then we're treated to basically 5-minute commercial as Attack-Trak™ blazes through anything in its path as He-Man admires all its features.

And after that, we're back to the actual plot and normal writing as if nothing happened.

I really love that they went for the roided super shredder approach to a mutant he-man. the design works for me on so many levels. if we hadnt gone the route of NA I feel like this is what a 90's heman would have looked like. spawn spikes, liefeld anatomy, electric superman motief, ryu bandana, and all.

I'm only really liking Orc Krang from the TMNT reveals.
I need straight barbarian versions of Bebop and Rocksteady. Bronze Age Rocksteady was the final boss the transforming musclemen fight in Altered Beast, and I think there was a warthog man too.

Mattel, all you need to do is finish Vintage in Origins, sprinkled in with some of the filmation OCs and reprint t some of the fan favourites that are hard to find (Orko, Trikolps). Make He-Man and Skeletor their own SKU so retailers can make sure those two are always available.
It's not that hard. You don't have to do these dumb stunts.

the barrel even lights up! as an aside one of the things I really appreciate filmation for is making a cyborg of hordak. Vampire monster man is neat but there's something far more entertaining about making him a cyborg vampire. The inspector gadget shenanigans are a joy too.

this was such an obvious idea Im baffled I never thought of it myself. part of me wishes mattel could deliver on a vintage sequel line in the vein of barba's figures but I know they'ed charge rape prices for their releases and the entire thing would be rendered pointless.

The whole sun-man line was a huge waste. I get it, in order to make the algorithm happy you have to pander to assholes and scumbags who don't care about the franchise but just want to see the world burn if they don't get their way.
