As a broke bastard that hopped onto Stud.io two years ago, it's great. If you use it alongside Bricklink's catalog to see the availability/existance of parts and colors, it's a useful way to make builds that you may not currently have the money for. I currently have like 30+ mocs I plan to eventually make, one at a time. Would highly recommend.

Whipped up a quick MOC using two Mctorian. None of the official combiner models used only two so that's why I did it. I think it looks nice. Simple but effective. It has amazing torso articulation for dynamic posing. It can also launch two discs at once. I'm surprised this was never a official Mctoian combiner, it works really well.

I will. Im not going to put more than a few hours of effort into this at best, but ill do what I said and revamp a hordika into something that lego should have "actually" done instead, aka working with realistic and reasonable parts and mostly ones actually available at the time. Going to create a single prototype and then ill probably download that software to create digital version after testing things out first

If you're not still throwing a bitch fit and are still adamant about not buying real Bionicle, why don't you try rebuilding the normal sets digitally before all of this?One of the big differences between you and the dude in the last couple threads (and probably anyone who builds even half-decent mocs) is that he actually knew how to play with and pose the things, obviously from a long time spent with the real thing.

Work on understanding how the normal models pose and function and maybe that'll help you get an idea how of to build more fun and realistic mocs. It'll also give you an idea of the connections and builds that Lego condoned, which will give you an idea of what works well. "Play" with the original sets and figure out your favourites, then see what it is that you actually like about them. Every kid started out building the normal sets before making their shitty modifications of the basic models. Eventually they advanced to builds that looked better or involved more complex techniques, but you're starting from nothing.

Thanks. I'm still waiting on the last two Mctorian I need to arrive in the mail. Once I get them, I'll start cooking up more complex MOCs using only Mctorian pieces. In the meantime, here's another Mctorian MOC I did. It the same as the last one, just different colors and mask. I just really like this two Mctorian combiner. Great posability despite the simple pieces used to build it.

Now that Ive been rebuilding my bionicles for days I think I realized that the biggest secret ingredient for a good set was always that it had to look blatantly technic. The more they kept incorporating smooth large armor pieces (already on the nuva but this was a temporary mistake at the time) and smoother more clean looking pieces (like the post metru era long inika joints that dont have the "windows" into the axles from the side) they just started looking more and more like traditional action figures, and the regular sets never had the amount of parts to compensate like the average uber duber cool moc does. This doesnt necessarily sound like a big revelation otherwise but I didnt realize what a massive change those Inika limb connectors were in the long run. The metru still looked damn good, the perfect blend of articulation, visibly technic design and with bulky but perfect armor pieces on top, mainly the shoulders and the absolutely flawless perfect straight of masks. The more technic the sets look the more youre able to suspend your disbelief/ imagine the character as being more stilted and robotic to begin with so the lesser articulation or other limitations dont hit as hard either

Here are some tips if you want.

Go look at artwork for inspiration. Want to build a toa/humanoid? Go look up scifi robots and mechs. Just for a starting point you can try to recreate it as much as possible using pieces. Look at things like armor, panels, etcs, and try to see if any pieces resemble them, then try to piece them together.

For example, here's this random artwork I found on google. The chest area reminds me of a hero factory chest piece, so that was the piece I began with. Then I chose this black armor piece for the stuff in front on the chest. Now you have to find ways to connect the two. The hero factory chest has bar/clip connections, so I used those to connect the black panel piece.

Then you just keep doing the same thing for everything else until you get something you like. Not sure how to recreate the arm/leg/etc? Go look at some other artwork for inspiration.

Look at actual sets. The thigh bone shouldn't be the same color as the shins and thigh armor. One of those three should be a different color. Doesn't matter which. Second, you use fucking bars instead of standard 2/ axles for the bicep connection and you color them orange instead of the standard, which is either red or black. Look at a real set, like we told you twenty times already, you sperg.

Yeah the right arm is basically the one part of the Hordika sets that's perfect as it is. The extra ball joint is utterly redundant anyway since the elbow bends, if you want to add posability just increase the friction so the gear joint isn't floppy.

I agree with the other anon about the right arm being fine as it is in the original, but I'd also add that the range of motion on the left arm irks me. It's a general problem in the originals (and a lot of standard sets), and connecting the Rahkshi limb-bit to it makes it worse; I think you should look for a better, less gimpy, alternative. The earlier anon probably had the best approach by using the Hordika head-stalk as a shoulder, then doing a standard limb from there.

That all said, I think the Rahkshi limbs work well thematically with the Hordika, and the blade on the right upper arm is also nice.

Seeing Rakshi parts implemented makes me think of an alternative to the animal-likeness approach of the last guy: basing the mutations around the earlier enemy or rahi waves. Without peaking into the future sets, that gives the Visorak, Bohrok, and Rahkshi (excluding the Vahki since they're robots or whatever the fuck). Even with just three, you could do sets of two mutations based around those, although the Hordika body plan might be hard to adapt to the style of the Bohrok especially.

As a final technical note, my general memory of the Rahkshi limbs is that they're a little loose. The Rahkshi are light, or maybe my parts were just worn out, or my memory is off after however many years, but they may not work well as the third limb segment in the legs. Even how the other guy did the ankle might be a bit dubious, but the sockets he used work reasonably well in practice (pic related-ish), although the final joint at the foot may be weak.

The problem is that you don't. You ask for suggestions, fail to implement them, and then complain when someone calls you out. Mix in cases of you insisting that you did do it correctly or otherwise complaining about mixed answers.

People here are mostly coming from a level of experience way above you, so you lack the skill to see what they're really getting at. Or you attempt to implement it, but your approach is fundamentally orthogonal and flawed due to your lack of experience, such that every new step introduces new problems. Or it's so basic that it's hard to put into words without having to dumb it way down and write out everything exactly, which is annoying and a pain in the ass to write.

And regarding mixed messages, you need to consider that you genuinely are talking to multiple people, which you seem to not understand. There will be differences in opinion, and sometimes these suggestions will simply fail in practice. There's no 100% correct way to build a "good" moc, despite your insistence that people produce the answer when you get defensive.

Also, the extra piece between the piston and the ball joint - that stops it early, but it also allows the axles to be pulled out of the connection. There is a reason all of the official sets use one single constrained axle connected directly between the throughball and the piston.

The knees will buckle and your pistons will just sagg off the backside of the legs without doing anything at all. Every titan set has their legs slightly bent, so the piston is immediately taking pressure off the knees. They don't stand upright like your build. Most of G2 was either much blander than anything that came out with Hero Factory, or was an ugly mess of random pieces and colours. Hero Factory had a lot of genuinely fun/cool/interesting sets despite the more dumbed down style/lore.
I don't understand why they went back to using mostly only basic smooth shells with the G2 Toa. Did they think Hero Factory armour pieces were too robot-like for Bionicle?

Alright, I guess thats a step in the right direction at least. I went to look at some pics of the toa and the one thing that jumps out at me is that I do mostly like their weapons, but the toa themselves just look so blocky and simplistic on the surface (with ugly oversaturated overly complex/ mixed palettes on top) that it just masks the "bionicle" aspect even if it might be hiding slightly under the surface. Also rebooting bionicle by restarting the exact same story (but worse) is a retarded fucking idea to begin with because the surrealistic mystery of it all is the biggest draw of the line

I wouldnt make one because all years have strenghts and weaknesses, although the later years constantly make more and more mistakes and dont take enough advantage of their innovations so generally the early years reign heavily superior. There are objectively good sets in every single classic era unless you cound stars as their own, but bionicle is more than simply the set itself and all the story/ the context around the set heavily influences the way its perceived as a whole, which is why id rather get all 6 mctoran than the entire 2016 fagnicle chima factory lineup for free

06 and 05 deserve it, I get it, we agree. Where we disagree is placing 08/09 far below them. To me, 06 was the most barebones attempt at inika builds - obviously - but 08 and 09 had some really interesting variations on them similar to the Mahri, even if not as well executed. Their titan sets were weaker than 06 as well, Axonn is a blast whereas Tuma felt very played out (not to mention the stickers. Hate em.) I also can't imagine placing 05 higher than 08 and 09 - based on titans alone I guess? The titans were great (even if I only had the chance to observe them from afar, I poured over their instruction booklets once I found copies of them online) but the Hordika, Visorak, and Rahaga were all frankly awful. I can't really justify putting 08 and 09 below them with that in mind. If you liked 06 better, or on par, I can see that. But 05? Hard disagree.

Only other things of note are the later years - Stars needs no mention, but the continued omission of 2015 and 2016 to me suggests either an attempt at placating my defense of them (understandable) or a lack of experience with them (also understandable). If it's something else entirely then please continue to explain it to me. But if it's my second point there - lack of experience - please consider giving them another look over. They do appear sterile from the outside, but I found myself growing fonder of them over time, not bitter. I used to adore the Visorak I had as a kid but hate how floppy he was now with retrospect, but the 2015 and 2016 sets were basically all solid and interesting. Obtrusive colors, the occasional wonky mask, or an odd gimmick here or there shouldn't totally discount them, imo.

Theyre there because of superior designs. Voya Nui had the better stylistic potential/ material to work with but the Mahri actually started experimenting more with the toa builds, with actual masks on top. The Barraki were better than the Piraka on that exact same front too (weaker idea but stronger execution), and the titans were better overall. B tier in that list is comprised of two lines that had good ideas but lackluster execution, and both of them were actually my favorite lines as a kid (inika and hordika) for whatever reason

The glatorian era is absolute garbage. It has no visual identity of its own with no particularly heavy focus on new interesting molds, and the setting was complete garbage. Aping more from something like Dune wouldve been far more interesting than this neutered mad max "gladiator" setting with very little imagination or brainpower used to create it. They were STILL using the same done to death Inika builds with the exact same armor pieces in even uglier color combinations. It completely wasted its intented potential as a soft "fresh start" for Bionicle, and instead felt like just a random sidegrade (or maybe a slight upgrade from the phantoka/mistika trash)

There are nuggets of experimentation in the glatorian era (vorox is okay, Mata Nui is probably the best Inika build or contesting it with Mahri Jaller but no sword is pathetic, Kiina had a great core but her long gangly limbs look like shit in return, Malum's claws are nice but his articulation is surprisingly weak and he otherwise looks like a dwarf, and Vastus has a good weapon/ his helmet looks okay, but that goes into the point that the "helmets" suck dick and the more humanized face underneath was a massive step into the wrong direction. All the "titan" vehicles were cool although I don't own a single one, but they arent going to carry the era if the story behind them is weak

They're really sameish but some of his MOCs are okay. Some are straight up appalling, for example the ones with those fur pieces, their boobs are also hideous, the way he put them together using multiple shoulder plates look weird.
I like the one with the Metru blue pieces though.

I think a system-based Bionicle reboot or some diorama or Marvel bust-tier tribute wouldn't sell well enough to be worth it for Lego. It would only appeal to a small minority of Bionicle fans (which itself is also a small minority of lego customers), and the rest would hate it. It wouldn't even work as nostalgia bait for casuals fans who had some Bionicle sets as kids, partly because they don't care/know enough about the story and the characters to be interested in system-based tribute sets, and partly because it wouldn't look like what they think of as Bionicle. AFOLs hate Bionicle in the first place. And kids and zoomers wouldn't care about it as they're only interested in the Lego version of some already estabilished popular franchise.

The road for bionicle is to stop trying to reboot it. Return to the G1 timeline but separate your story so much from it that its almost like an entirely new franchise, like what the old republic era is to star wars. Maybe dont even have "toa" anymore, just fucking invent new magic rather than trying to recapture the old one. Basic sets could be a combination of light technic and very tasteful usage of the ccbs shit.
