Why does Hasbro allow knockoff Transformers? I just saw a knockoff Prime on BBTS. I know it's more difficult to go after the makers as they are made in China, but they could easily go after US based retailers that sell them.

Cool, he has the articulation of a 20 year old toy now. All he's missing now is his wrist knife, Mini-Con launch ramp, fold-out Mini-Con/5mm attachment points, the two Mini-Con capture/containment things on his legs and Leader-1. I can live without the sliding mask.

I'll admit I never owned any og Armada toys so I probably just don't "get" it, but I watched Micron Legend and I really like the idea of Microns pegging onto transformers to "power them up"; I just never really understood the appeal of Megatron's not-basemode gimmicks in tank form. Probably would've been fun if you had a huge Micron collection, but most of them didn't have much personalities like the Micromasters, so I mostly just see them as accessories really; and since the new Microns are using 5mm ports now, and Legacy Megs is covered in 5mm holes, I'm fairly satisfied. I dunno, for me the only thing missing on Legacy Megatron is the knife (and obv Leader-1) - that thing was awesome, really hope his Super repaint will include it.
Besides, not like Megatron ever used that ramp or the capturing thingies in the show, or am I misremembering?

Magnus is only slightly taller than Voyager-sized bots like Springer, Rodimus and Optimus.
SS86 Magnus looks like he's based more on the Masterpiece,who was also freakishly huge, than the cartoon.

The perspective's a bit fucky is the thing because it's made to look like an angled overhead shot, so the character further away looks barely shorter than Magnus, but there's distance between the two that's warped by the perspective. Taking that into consideration, Hotrod would only come up to Magnus' waist when stood directly next to him, so the toys are accurate here.

and I don't understand anon thinking his pylons should stay in place, or be otherwise independent from the arm, because... it's ultra magnus. it's Powered Convoy. The pylons are literally his upper arms. If anything he should have an extendo-arm gimmick that utilizes those, for extra punching power.

no the problem is that once you rotate the shoulder, it now looks too low. You have these nice big 'trapezius muscles' you've created from folded up parts, but the arm is set too low on those
Or perhaps the issue is, they have an armpit-hinge like so many modern transformers do, but the armpit hinge ROTATES WITH THE ARM. when what you would actually want is for the elevated state of the arm to be independent from its rotation. Have the hinge connect to the rotator cuff. Because there are zero opportunities when you would actually want to hinge away from the body like he is in that picture. that's one of the few things your shoulders can't really do.

Well, I have the collectors madness now. I have already ordered guns for my G2 Swindle and am now slowly working on a complete G2 Bruticus. Also if whomever was talking abocut MP Bonecrusher is still sround, ai got another look at him and have totally changed my mind. He is indeed as detailed and colored as he needs to be, not sure why I thought he was so flatly tan in robot mode. I might just have to get one.

Why do they keep basing toys on a 40 year old cartoon full of errors? Vehicle modes should be in the same scale, with the robot sizes being a lower priority.

The alt modes are pretty bad without upgrade parts (and even those don’t help much). Kickback just lays down while Shrapnel and Bombshell are bricks. Kickback’s is the worst looking but he can be improved if you combine his swords into an abdomen like on Ransack.

The official combiner uses Trashmaster, Scraphook, Axlegrease and two Crashbars. You could swap out Axlegrease for Towline if you wanted a full Autobot combiner. You might not want to double dip on Crashbar yet though. A Crashbar retool is probably coming soon, either as Road Pig or one of the Star Seekers.

Honestly I think the issue is that the cartoon undersized him compared to how much mass he actually has. In the movie he's barely taller than Optimus while he's supposed to be the same truck cab plus an entire trailer extra.

86 might still have odd proportions but I don't think it's as dramatically oversized as some people act. Part of me wonders if he was shrunken to match the others in height of people would be complaining the truck cab was too small.

There's a couple issues with that. First, not even the G1 toys were in scale with each other, so you'd have shit like >>10619654 where combiners wouldn't fit together. Then, the other problem is that you just wouldn't be able to do certain alt-modes. Look at Sky Lynx. One half of him is a space shuttle. He would be larger than HasLab Unicron if you wanted to produce him in scale to, say, ER Optimus. Scaling by vehicle modes just isn't feasible for a lot of characters.

No, it's universally regarded as having an undercooked script. Which is true, but doesn't diminish the dedication people poured into it in literally every other facet, nor its plain fun factor.
All those explosions you bitches cry about? Real. They're all real fucking pyrotechnics and stunts, with the transformers themselves usually being the only things done with CGI - and they're still fucking top class CG to this day. Devastator had to be rendered in chunks so ILM's fucking computers wouldn't set themselves on fire.
The pacing of the action scenes themselves is wonderfully directed, and is something many films with stronger scripts still fail to top.
The human characters are fucking hilarious and the college fratboy-tier humor is so brazen I can't help but respect it. Maybe it's not for everyone I accept that, but that doesn't make it irredeemable or anything.
For all the crying about muh transformers' characterizations, fuck, they're fine, man. Underplayed maybe, but they do what they need to and arent "bastardized" at all yet (that happens in 4-5, where I'll note Bay had less of a hand in because he was growing dispassionate). Characters like Megatron, Starscream, Jetfire, and Optimus get some really entertaining scenes out of their personalities. And that's without going into how cohesive the designs actually are in these first two films, I've no idea how people have trouble tracking the action. The shaping on them is unique and just fun to look at, in no other series would you get designs like RotF Demolishor.

I know it's easier to think to yourselves "this sucks, nobody actually likes it, ppl are just brainwashed" but you're just kidding yourself. Learn to see what others see, maybe you'll stop being so bitter.

at the same time though, having all your characters roughly within a size range, or at least framing shots so it feels that way, does help you connect better to art. you look at classic comicbook stuff, the lineups of heroes from different books all seem cohesive and neat because of the "all of these guys could be action figures at roughly the same price point" nature. and it makes the REALLY huge ones more special. so I can go either way. I have no real G1 attachment anyhow.

Have you read the novelizations? They were based on earlier script drafts, and while a bit lesser in some ways, a lot of scenes are arguably better and suddenly make way more sense within context. I'd kill for a RotF DC, but doubt there's any footage to use for it.

Siigh shoulda seen it coming but was able to get a used Crankcase for cheap, but the main issue is one of his shoulder hinges is pretty loose. It's on one of those mushroom pins, too. Any clues as to what someone could do to tighten that sort of joint?

I say this a lot but each of the five movies did one thing better than the rest, and one thing worst. RotF had the worst writing, and the best fucking designs. Devastator, all of his components, Sideswipe, the original concept for the Arcees, Starscream Now with New Tatts, the Fallen, RAVAGE. motherfucking JETFIRE. They were killing it. there were cool looking motherfuckers in the other movies, i mean AoE had goddamn dinobots, but I feel like RotF had the highest percentage of great designs.

The toys seemed to hit a peak of complexity, going just over that peak with RotF Mixmaster. After that the insane transformations got scaled back a bit and there aren't any real standouts for 'too fiddly to want to transform' figures.

Yeah for sure. If anything growing up, I was an Animated worshipper, but I've become more aware of its flaws with age (even if I still love it in spite of them).
The reason I said that about the humor is like, I recently started binging the whole franchise, and ended up really liking a good chunk of the 80s show to my own surprise. But, I know a lot of people sick of G1 who are also very willing to just brush aside anything positive about, simply on the basis of "mehh, it's just a cheap shitty 80s cartoon! Go read a book!!" Which like, maybe, but you can still enjoy it for what it is.
And that's the attitude you can see everywhere regarding the Bay films since time immemorial, even in this thread there've been so many posts that are only "it's just a mindless action movie with humor for children and idiots, it's not deep at all!" and I'm like, yeah..? Just really missing the trees for the forest, it feels.

G1 is really rough but essential to the identity of the franchise. I would never require anyone to like it or watch it to be considered a "true fan"; it's a shame not to acknowledge what it was, how it performed, what the reaction was (especially to the movie!), and what elements still persist today.

For some reason, almost all the TR Headmasters (off the top of my head, Mindwipe, Weirdwolf, Highbrow, Hardhead, and Skullcruncher) use this weird soft, rubbery plastic in certain places that doesn't age well. You'd think they would have learned to change the material when they made Draculus - his wings are still fairly soft, though they feel like they're made of something a bit sturdier than my old Mindwipe's wings were, so maybe, MAYBE he dodged a bullet and they did use something different (but still flexible).
The recently reissued TR guys are still using the same rubbery crap from before and will almost certainly have problems in the future, though, so god knows.

I find this hard to argue with. A lot of Classics and Universe molds still have appeal, and will continue to have appeal, in their own right, for years to come. Pretty much everything nowadays is defined by its flaws; a plastic simulacrum of a cartoon character waiting to be replaced by the next incremental improvement.

No one bashes ROTF because it’s a mindless action movie. John Wick is a mindless action movie, yet it gets heavy praise from everyone because its action sequences are excellent. In contrast, ROTFs action sequences - the whole reason to sit down and watch the film in the first place - look like diarrhea. The robot designs look like a t-800 rolled around in glue in a junk yard, the plot is actively moronic and the “humor” is somehow even less funny than Jack & Jill starring Adam Sandler. These reasons are why many people hate ROTF. Due to the financial success of the film, it allowed the cancer that is Michael Bay to dominate the movie franchise & the very obvious problems of ROTF only got worse as the films went on. It took a hundred million dollar loss of the last knight for the studios to finally switch gears. At least we got that cybertron sequence in Bumblebee

Nah, that was the best part. The cartoon making them change shape so much made the transformations fun and exciting to look as parts shifted around and made them feel like more than just badly drawn toys. Watching the wheels deploy, windows roll up, things moved, it's what sells them as much more appealing to watch change than something simple like a Go-Bot. I loved watching how Bumblebee's wheels would vanish into his torso going back to robot mode, and clearly even the designers do too since every toy since his Classics one has decided that's an important part of the design.

tfwiki needs an interface revamp. They're missing a lot of stuff like an information box below the main character image. Like, I'd have to ctrl+f hunt down what the vehicle mode is and their first appearance in their respective media is. Resident Evil's wiki did away with the clutter of long pages by creating separate tabs, and I think that design's good for TF since their character continuities gets whacky at times.

Personally, I find the designs' silhouettes very easy to parse, and love them for being extremely creative ones on top of that. Additionally I think the details on top of the actual designs only give more to appreciate. And as for the humor I already mentioned I really like it for how brash and in-your-face it is; its intentional and loud immaturity screams with the attitude of a college dudebro, moreso than it does a lame bargain bin comedy starring some dude in his mid-30s.
All that said, I still recognize that some people will still not find either to be to their tastes. I respect that, just please chill with the arrogant attitude of claiming [your] views as objective fact.

As someone who only watched both shows for the first time recently, I'm not sure that's entirely fair. 80s TF definitely had more complex transformations that were fun, but despite being more simple, I think I enjoyed watching the transformations in Go-Bots a little more: just because I found it cute how much attention to detail they put in, like how some Go-Bots are facing backwards after transformation, and they almost always took that into consideration - as your own gif shows lol! More fun is when they incorporated this into action scenes, often with Crasher.

I'm just shitposting. I wanted to pick a silly little mold that I personally think is underrated, and that nobody overtly hates.

My personal favorite mold of the past 10 years is probably MP Artfire, but I'm not sure that there would be any consensus on it being "THE" figure to have. LG-63 G2 Megatron, T-30 Cosmos, LG-52 Misfire, and MP Crosscut are all pretty major players for me from the last 5-10.

I'm really not so sure, but be wary on Ebay. A lot of people either dont realize they are reissues, or more likely are lying wjen they say they are vintage. I don't know much about mold issues or shifting values myself, I've only just started collecting and am currently selling my old stock from growing up.

I have MPM-13 Blackout, my childhood G2 Swindle (awaiting new guns), ajd just bought a Draculus. So new to it, but a long time Transformers fan.

I got into Transformers around 2009 because I've always been a carfag, and all the licensed cars getting made for the movie and later the MP toyline really spoke to me. I loved the idea of a toy that was a cool car and also something else. I started out collecting just cars, but these days I'll buy almost anything. Accuracy holds almost no appeal to me; I'm way more into cool vehicles and neat transformations that cleverly integrate alt mode parts. Stuff like fake parts and modern MP panel extravaganzas with huge backpacks are immense turn-offs for me.

I used to have the old Animorphs figures as well as the transforming Digimon toys, these days its just Transformers and the odd 3rd party. That said I much prefer Beast Wars figures to vehicle alt modes.

I can abide by accuracy if the toy is still good, but if the transformation or alt mode starts to suffer in the name of accuracy, it really kills the mood. and i fuckin HATE fake parts. like the biggest appeal of a transformer, to me, is that parts of the alt mode get turned into robot bits and it looks cool. if you rely on fake parts to do that, it kills my boner faster than a baseball game

I feel like the TR Kup mold was the last time a Kup toy was actually cool. People made fun of the headsculpt, but in person it was so great and full of character, and the alt mode split the difference between looking like some kind of functional truck and whatever the fuck the G1 alt mode was.

So far I have only Decepticons. I think I need an Autobot to balance things out. Considering getting Roadbuster, he was always a sort of.mysterious transformer to ms. As a kid I had a metal version of him that didn't transform and I always thought I jusy didn't know how to do it or was missing the pieces, what with how big partsforming was at the time.

Alternatively the sniper 2 pack sounds fun, but would further bolster my Decepticon ranks...

One part of me wishes I got back into TF early enough to have gotten TR Misfire, but the other part of me just really doesn't vibe with that head. Like, it's G1 toon+anime accurate, but that's *so* inferior to the og toy/toy art (and by proxy IDW) head design, it's not even fair. He just ends up looking like another generic Decepti-grunt Blitzwing/Insecticons/etc head.
Eh, well if anything the recent Wreckers amazon capsule proves hasbro's not above reissuing TR molds today, so, here's to praying that they'll reissue Misfire with a nicer head sometime soon. At least, I hope so.
