These are all from the flashbacks. Donnie and Splinter go to meet with the Oroku clan to set up a peace agreement. Splinter is the head of the Hamato clan...but it's an ambush and they get deadified there. Spoilers.

It's a fun one off comic, it is a bit depressing considering everyone ends up dead before it ever starts. But the designs are good. I really hope (and I'm sure they will) NECA gives us Oroku Hiroto. His tech-Shredder armor was pretty cool.

I don't think hate is the right word for me. I just find it kinda... Lazy? Uninspired? The doorag headband just doesn't convey the rough and tumble attitude like it did to people in the late 90s. Stuff like the extra scratches and cracks in the shell that they've done in several iterations has always been a better visual distinction to me.

the thing is, having distinct stuff for each, I get it.. and doorag bandanas have their place..
but they inherently make the head look sort of.. big and round. which is a feminine shape. that's why a good pirate wearing one of those puts a hat on top. the head needs some STUFF on it.
that version of raph where the mask looks like it WAS a doo rag with the top stripped off, leaving ragged cloth edges like big fiery eyebrows? that worked great

This was their kid/preteen look(the title of that issue even calls them "Preteenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
Also while it's dubious canon, the turtles got the idea for their masks from their universe's version of Robin. I say dubious canon because it's not a guest era issue but a guest starring issue they had that was sanctioned by Mirage and uses Mirage continuity.

with the bandana style mask, it emphasizes the brows, the doo-rag de-emphasizes them, making more of a sloped look to the forehead.

Yep that's it, it's written by the same guy who did the Mirage era stuff(which wasn't canon, but this skirts by as happening before the Image stuff so it never was officially de-canonized).

The Batman and Robin is a bit more blatant when they encounter him a few years later in the Image series and he takes up the Knight Watchmen mantle.
Basically the whole thing with Big Bang is that they're straight homages/expies to DC and Marvel comics. Basically a way to do their own take on the characters.

Like yes yes, mutations can do different things, but you understand those are the toes, they're coming right out of his ankle. Look, I've been an Usagi fan almost my entire life. You need to wake up here. NECA doesn't actually give a shit about Usagi, they are making him because he's connected to TMNT. If not for that, there is no way he'd be getting a figure from them, much less multiples. So they're making him in a style that fits in with the bulk of their TMNT stuff, you dig?

You can keep crying and moaning about it if you want, but I've owned virtually every Usagi toy in existence, and these are far and away going to be the best ones. I can tell you this already from handling my original NECA Usagi. And there is probably not going to be anything better for a long time, cause as I mentioned, it's not exactly the hugest franchise, and it;'s only even getting this much attention because of ties to TMNT. Either get yours now, or cry in 10 years because there's been nothing else of value since.

I believe that is the idea anon has been trying to push
it has never really taken off. The actual show had the skin tone vary a lot, the only thing is they tended to be a slightly yellower tone and significantly less saturated. but they weren't usually that dark. A more apt race joke would be about toy-color Donatello.

TMNT has been whored out for a bunch of crossovers but you're all forgetting that it's all been for popular shit. Street Sharks did better than a lot of TMNT knockoffs but its day ended a long time ago. TMNT and MOTU makes sense as two big 80's properties that still have followings and merch to this day. Hell, even meme collabs like Stranger Things that make no real sense are just the turtles latching onto something popular. Street Sharks has been dead for ages, the turtles gain nothing by crossing over with them.
