The last time this idea was trotted out the notion was they would go with his Japanese name, or a new westernized name for the character. So Fire Convoy or finally admitting that this was never Optimus.

Well technically that was for Optimus Prime.
This is Omega Prime. It just happens to include an Optimus Prime.

If they ever dive deep into make new RiD figures, I sure as shit am using their Japanese names. One toy per character policy. Ultra Magnus may cause me some issues.

If they could manage a two combined commander sized Omega Prime with proportions similar to those with the same or better articulation with more stability I'd absolutely buy two. Extra points for a matrix saber that doesn't warp under its own weight.

Bonus it's Titian sized.

There is zero reason why this couldn't be a retail item. We got Japanese only characters in retail, why not a literal Optimus Prime (Convoy is what EVERY prime was called pre-Bayformers, nerds) be made for retail?

Because Hasbro is never going to give the tf team the budget to get Omega Prime right.
Deathsaurus was going to be a Grimlock retool before they begged Hasbro to make it Haslab.

Eh, the right level of retooling could have worked okay. A repaint would be balls, but they have worked the occasional magic on retools.

The real problem is I'm not sure that could stand next to Starsaber well.

The transformation on Grimlock is not that diferent from Deathsaurus. Change the t-rex head out for one that has the wings connected to the back, swap out the head, chest and shoulders and you got something cooking.

I do wish we had gotten the leader Starscream/Starsaber concept from potp. Would have been cooler than what we got with the g1 dorito.

I know that. Energon Optimus was called Grand Convoy. Fire Convoy IS Optimus in America. Japanese G1 continuity only matters in Japan, so why would they adhere to those rules when a.) it's very cearly Optimus Prime and b.) JG1 continuity only matters in Japan.
