Same guy who designed Gamer Barricade, and Volcanius/Dinoking. And they were nothing to write home about. Only good thing he made was probably Lio Convoy and that was because it was his husbando.

You also forgot the chicken hind legs on Tigerhawk that can't support weight.

those aren't even issues on my fucking radar aside from the hollowness.
the robot mode has these oversized arms with tiny hands like it's Prime again
the torso is huge and thick and beefy, which would be cool on some characters but not this one. And it's that way because the hawk thighs no longer make up part of the torso width, because they're tiny little emaciated drumsticks
the codpiece attaches to his navel instead of his crotch, so it looks ridiculous. and in beast mode, it barely clears the back of his ass, being attached way further up, at his lumbar region.
both modes are stupidly disproportionate, and despite the wings being decently big when spread out, they look tiny and pointless most of the time
his head looks tiny
his beast mode has no neck
he's a goddamn mess

we know full well what happened, how to fix it, and why we aren't going to. because they are more organized than we are, and their goal is to destroy, which always wins out over the goal to build as long as the metaphorical gravity gives it an advantage

look how far down the wings go originally, how big and full they were, and how much higher his hips sat. The original was based on the toy, which is fine. this new one, you can see how they got there, probably by using screencaps like yours where there's a low angle (to make him look tall and imposing) which makes things like the crotch flap look like it's sitting up higher.
but you can also see his hands were not that small. Small, yes, but not THAT small. and is torso was not that bulked out. admittedly yes, in the show, the bird thighs do not seem to make up part of the torso like they used to. doesn't matter, they should. and why change his hip socket / tiger shoulder color?

finally got Deathsaurus and Victory Saber together and they look good. It feels like 2 Gundams fighting each other. I especially like that Deathsaurus has 1 buster canon and Saber is practically just a fully armored up MS with a ton of guns

All the reviewers from US, UK even china said it is a mix bag with a good looking robot mode and that is it

There is a guy selling the stuff for 2400 (MSRP is like 1000 here original) with some add on parts (parts covering the hands in car mode and gap fillers for the gap below the window and the truck bed)

I am not sure it is worth it or not. The KO only does for 600 here

interesting, this cheetor always looked more neon highlighter yellow to me. netflix cheetor was a nice buttery golden yellow, and honestly, premium finish seems a touch too orange. He really is only just-as-good as netflix cheetor, other than the shin paint. new spot pattern is better, but it's not like it leaps out as more show-accurate.

I do understand your pain though, it's confusing asking yourself "how good does this need to look for it to be acceptable?" and at a certain point I gotta go... this is a toy. it has breaks in the sculpt. it's okay to have small spots of color, as long as they aren't too blatant
but I am still going to paint up the exposed blue joints on the beast mode.

you can make plastic in different colors. but yes, beast wars show models were based on the toys, who tried to only use so many colors, but they changed some colors to both-fur-texture-and-metallic-parts so the toys kinda.. compromise those, to save money.

They tried to go realistic like the original toyline (except for Scorponoks random 2 eye bugmode head), and both lines failed, but at least the originals had a chunky charm to them.

I'm not mad at anyone, I'm just telling you the reason why the new beast toys on kingdom-legacy went for a realistic look,.

hasbro tried to be accurate to the original toys, those toys tried to look realistic, but the 90s enginery limited them (so they failed at looking realistic, not failed to sell).

I'm lerning japanese so my english might be affected by the new language structural rules I'm shoving into my brain.

That was the original intent, but most of the beasts modes got tone down for more realistic looks and got skin textures and sculpted hair, only Rattrap and Scorponok kept their exagerated mutant beast modes.

So I ended up impulse buying this pack off of Pulse (heh) as some recommended. And wow...these guys are awesome. I kinda regret not going all in on the Studio Series 86 guys now because of Rodimus. He's literally like a tiny Masterpiece. Why can't they do this level of engineering on every single figure they make? He's just so good. I watched videos of him because I was kinda dragging my feet in buying this set and I thought he would be bigger. Dude is such a good figure for his size. I feel like the actual Hot Rod release should have had a better paint job in comparison, because I hate when the "evil" versions of characters have far and away the best paint job of the two.

Sideswipe I REALLY wanted to wait for Armada Wheeljack to come out under Gen Selects or something on Pulse since that's the only way I think they can slide him in within the next year or so since the release waves were leaked and he wasn't on them, but I actually kind of like this deco a lot on him. I hope if they do a Wheeljack, they do some heavy retooling to make him more like the Armada version and just recycle the hood from this figure. I mainly wanted him for the Mini-Con, but this is probably the best version of this mold so far. It feels incredibly solid. I wish my Gigawatt felt like this. Gigawatt just feels fiddly in comparison. Only issue is I really don't see where to store his gun in vehicle mode yet like Gigawatt.

All in all, this feels like it was worth what the price was on the site since this is what? A Deluxe and a smaller Voyager with accessories? Definitely hovering about what it's listed at on Pulse.

Well even shortly after the grt-go it was determined Decepticons would be aircraft or military vehicles, which throughout G1 evolved into Aircraft, Military Vehicles and Monsters, with a few exceptions being regular vehicles or trucks. But yeah these days I guess an autobot or decepticon can really just be anything. But hey as long as they continue to be awesome or at least goofy enough to love I'm all for it.

It is screwy. In G1 Bumblebee mentions being good underwater, but then water is introduced as an unknown thing to defeat Scraplets. some things like Energon depict rain happening on the planet, and there are locations that have names like "sea" in them. So it would seem there is at least some kind of surface liquid even if not water in some continuities.

I guess you could make two spindly limbs out of two of the legs, by folding the tip back to make a thicker shin/forearm whichever you choose, the other one would be sitting in back, maybe accordion'd up..
the main body... could unfold into a torso with a head easily enough, if you went the 'legs' route. in fact then you could have the third leg just be a tail.. maybe even have it arc up over the back like a scorpion

My main idea would be to have an asymmetric transformation. The two fron legs would collapse or fold at the mid section ababove and below the knee join to beef out the shin and thigh, while the third leg would collapse into an arm with either a hand or a claw. Gun arm would be the death ray that usually hangs underneath, but is sometime depected on top of or inside the hood of the tripod. The hood area can shift into upper body and abdomen, while the head pops up from within.

I just realized I have all the Stunticons but split between CW and Legacy with no overlap so I can't really compare. I will say that the reason I like the Stunticons is for Breakdown and he is disappointing in both. That being said the Legacy Wildrider mold looks good as a car so despite it being shitty that they used it for Breakdown it still has to be better than the CW Breakdown alt mode which looks like a car with an allergic reaction.

They barely do. The CW ones are just vehicles with the thighs visible as shitty looking elbows, and in some cases even the robot arms are on full display.

The limb modes have always been pretty halfassed, so I'd rather have a good looking and solid combiner like the Legacy Menasor. CW Menasor is also the worst of that line, an absolute mess that looks like shit thanks to the terrible Motormaster mold.

I'd argue that the Legacy has way more playability than the CW. The artillery configuration of the trailer, even if somewhat silly looking, adds play value. The transformation is more involved and fun, too (the way Motormaster goes from truck to robot to torso block is pretty damn great, and the way the arm bots separate in two after attaching to the trailer parts is ingenious).
And the most important thing of all: the combined mode can actually be handled and posed like a regular figure. Super solid and well articulated.

It's a mix bag really. CW Motormaster might be a shitty toros but the robot mode is solid as is the cab mode. Breakdown is the best use of that particular CW mold, the Dead End/Wild Ride mold is my favorite CW mold and don't have the BS backpack kibble that the Legacy version of the Legacy stunticon sports cars have, and Offroad is a neat figure even if he's an OC.

Legacy has the better Drag Strip and and Menasor, even though Menasor is literally just sticking the Stunticon limb bots onto the exoskeleton.

It made the KO harder to transform and tab properly for truck mode but still possible.

This and from what people said about the original figure using some really strange plastic in some parts, it sounds like the original transformation design isn't precise enough that Hasbro ended up using softer plastic to give that tolerance space. And that does not translate well using harder plastic

The conflict eventually locks time travel out from the Cybertronian civil war because if they have that tech they inevitably break all of time with it. Some of my December haul. Put off buying everything in this pic but glad I finally did. I got Metroplex for 100 and used the savings for the upgrade kit. Best decision ever. Not only are the fingers fully articulated but the hands hold the weapon with a much more solid connection. Minicon is kinda janky but a cool addition. Probably my best experience with DNA Designs.

I love the 2 pack. Gonna pretend Sideswipe uses Jolt to propel him forward with Whisper as a shield. Rodimus looks like a bounty hunter and is one of my fave figures and that’s saying a lot.

Other purchase was a replacement for my Armada Optimus that I fried with a hairdryer. Yeah. I’m *that* guy. New one had some defects but I sanded down the pegs in his arms so I don’t snap the little panel. Painted his eyes metallic red in supermode as well. His normal mode face plate has some weird artifacts on it but I’m done caring at this point. I’ve been thru 4 of these things. I’ll take it.

Anyways thanks for coming to my blog. As bad as Hasbro seems sometimes I really do think we are in some kind of golden age with Legacy.

So, I've finally fiddled a bit with my Reactivate Starscream, Bumblebee, Soundwave and Optimus. As I mentioned before, the plastic quality most definitely has changed; these guys are also pretty hollow and make heavy use of moving panels for their kibble.
I'll start with Starscream. He's quite a bit different from his usual appearance - not only does his face not really resemble the Starscream we know, but his whole body is a lot less blocky than the usual version of him, and his color scheme is a bit different. Supposedly, the asymmetric black bits are supposed to be 'patched up' battle damage, though they don't really convey that idea too well; incidentally, only he and his pack-in partner Bumblebee have this weird look going on with them - Soundwave and Prime look totally normal. Apparently this is supposed to match the characters' in-game appearances, but since the game hasn't come out yet (and I only even knew it was a thing because of these toys), I can't verify how accurate they actually are.
Anyway, Starscream comes with two Null Rays (which are also asymmetrical) that he can either hold, mount on his forearms (not his shoulders), or be stored on the backs of his wings when not in use. Articulation-wise, he has no wrist rotation; however, he DOES have a rotating waist, which gives him a one-up on his Earthrise mold. Arms and legs have a fair range of movement, and you can get some fairly decent poses out of him that you couldn't from his Legacy Armada version (since his nosecone doesn't get in the way). His wings can eb angled back, too, so they don't get in the way of arm movement.
Personally, I like his slimmer, more organic proportions here versus his traditional boxy G1 look, though he's got a bit more black on him than I care for.

Transformation into jet mode is fairly simple but somewhat interesting - most of the actual 'transforming' is how his back panels unfold and move down to make the entire top of the jet; his legs split in half, with the front halves of his shins sliding up past his knees while the back halves attach to that black panel that was originally on his back to make his thrusters; his arms dislocate and move down while his chest 'intakes' move up, and his head tucks into his nosecone as the whole thing moves up from his chest. The jet mode ends up looking pretty decent - far better than his Earthrise attempt, even though the arms aren't really hidden and he ends up with a massive gap on his underside where the nosecone ad been tucked into. Still, he makes a passable 'not F-15', even though he's still lacking landing gear. He also has no ports in this mode to attach him to a pose stand of any kind - in robot mode, there is a screw hole on the back of his pelvis where a stand can peg in, but that's completely concealed in vehicle mode, sadly.

Next up, Bumblebee. It looks like they mashed together his G1 look with his Bayverse incarnation, and the result is...actually not to bad. He's not a kibbly mess like his Bayverse version, but still manages to be a bit more visually striking than his G1 version, and he keeps a more G1-esque head rather than the 'baby with a pacifier' look that I've always hated. His colors are a tad bit off, though - while his promotional shots give the impression that he's the same sunny yellow that we've all gotten used to since they ditched the chromed gold, in reality he's actually more the color of Dijon mustard. It's not horrible, but he's definitely darker than usual.
Like Starscream, he has no wrist rotation; unlike Starscream, he also has no waist rotation, which is a bit sad. For weapons, he comes with a pair of submachine pistols; he can hold them, mount them to slots on either side of his head (which looks ridiculous in robot mode because of how small they are), or stow inside his hollow forearms.

Instead of his G1 Volkswagon Beetle or Bayverse Camero, this Bee turns into what looks like some sort of buggy. His transformation is a bit more convoluted than Starscream's, and involves his backpack simultaneously unfolding and rotating in on itself to hide the head while the chest dislocates and moves forward to become his car hood. Interestingly, all four of his wheels are actually in his robot legs, with the front pair unfolding from the sides on long pieces that run the length of his body while the back wheels fold out from behind them; his robot arms simply tuck into the hollow space near his robot head underneath. His pistols can still stow inside his arms, but they work better on his hood, where they look slightly less ridiculous now that his head is out of the way. he can roll around pretty nicely, as his wheels have plenty of clearance against the floor (unlike that horrible RotB Bumblebee that came in the Jungle Mission 3-pack with Airaizor and Mirage).

Now for the second 2-pack, starting with Soundwave. The stock photography makes him look a lot lankier than he actually is - he's still a bit weirdly proportioned due to his chest being so wide while his waist is rather small - but it's not all that horrible, especially if you're actually posing him instead of leaving him standing straight. His head is pretty tiny, though, and I'm a bit annoyed by that blue piece that sits directly on top of his chest 'door' - when he's standing straight up and looking ahead, that blue block comes up past his chin, blocking the bottom half of his face. It's not horrible, but still not fantastic.
It feels like the budget was slightly higher for this pack - most likely because it has Optimus in it - both 'bots have rotating wrists and a rotating hip, plus no kibble that can interfere with arm or leg movement. For weapons, Soundwave comes with what I'm assuming is supposed to be his concussion blaster and a (removeable) shoulder-mounted gattling laser that replaces his usual rocket launcher; the gattling laser can move up and down a little, and since it's on a 5mm peg, it can be rotated around as well. Sadly, his tape deck chest is just for show - it doesn't open, and he has no cassettes this time. His blaster can be stowed on his backpack when not in use.

Vehicle mode is a fairly straightforward shellformer - his chest slightly dislocates (revealing his windshield) and swings up, making his chest 'door' into the car hood while his head flips back into the car roof; his backpack flips up and snaps in to make the rear of the car (and a little radar dish flips up) while his front wheels fold down and out, his arms tuck in under the hood and his torso folds back at the waist, hiding the legs under the shell. It's simple but effective, and he rolls around just as easily as Bumblebee, who he's roughly the same size as.

Lastly, we have Optimus Prime. Appearance-wise, he's not really as big a departure from what you'd expect the way Bumblebee and Soundwave were; I like his face sculpt quite a bit, and he's got decent articulation all around. He comes with an Energeon Axe (would you believe this is the first Optimus toy I've ever owned that had his iconic axe?), his usual blaster, and a removable Matrix of Leadership (the exact same Earthrise one we've seen a million times by now). As someone mentioned last thread, he actually has difficulty holding his blaster - the issue being that the handle is too short, so it only barely slips into his hand. His axe has a fairly long peg and has no issue staying in place, though. Both weapons can be stowed on his back kibble when not in use.

Truck mode. While he still turns into his usual cabover truck (sans trailer), his transformation is easily the most complex of the bunch. Instead of the usual 'twist torso around, tuck head into cab, arms stick into the sides' classic transformation for him, Prime's shins now detach similar to Starscream's, but rotate backwards and around, bringing his feet to just beneath his crotch, where they fold in and become a faux trailer hitch. Similar to his Earthrise toy, his chest pops open under his windshield/Matrix chamber and his actual truck grill folds down from it; his bumper (designed a bit more like a cowcatcher or plow) actually makes up the sides of his robot torso, and both halves (along with his front wheels) flip around and rotate to meet up with the grill. At the same time, the manels that make up his backpack unfold, with the grey bits becoming side runners for the truck and the red parts becoming the top of the cab as his head flips back. The entire upper chest is pulled 90° back towards his legs. Lastly, the 'cuffs' around his forearms unfold to make the sides of the cab; his elbows bend in reverse and his shoulders tuck back, letting you rotate the sides of the cab into position. Then you fold down the top of the cab and finally close his chest, hiding his fists and completing the truck. Most of those steps have to be done at the same time, or you end up with parts clashing against each other, so part of the 'puzzle' to transforming him is figuring out not just what parts go where, but WHEN to move those parts. His gun and axe clip onto the sides of his shins to finish the look (and, surprisingly, his gun has no issues pegging in here like it dos with his hands).

In summary, these guys are indeed quite the departure from what you normally expect of toys of these characters - as mentioned earlier, there's a huge reliance on using panels (that become backpacks for all of them) to make shells to hide most of their bits; the only one not guilty of mostly shellforming is Starscream. They're all also fairly hollow, and it looks like the 'battle damage/replaced parts' gimmick was abandoned in the second pack in favor of more articulation (which I'm fine with). The blend of looks for the characters is somewhat interesting - as I said, I like Starscream's less-boxy look and Optimus' head, and this is probably the first and only time I've ever thought Bumblebee in any incarnation actually looked cool - but I'm really, really not liking the new plastic they're using (I'm already seeing stress marks on the various pins and tabs on each of the characters after only transforming them once or twice).
Questionable materials aside, they're not bad looking figures in-hand, but I'm still wondering why they released toys based on a game that's apparently been trapped in development hell since at least 2017 with no announced date for final release (or even a beta release). Whatever the case, while they look interesting enough, I'm more than a little concerned about the longevity of the toys themselves due to the cheap plastic combined with all those moving pins and panels - I'll be relegating them to 'display only' for their own protection.

Yeah, it's weird, but neither Soundwave nor Optimus has those black 'replaced' parts on them, but both have wrist and waist rotation that was missing in the first pack instead. I have no idea how that budget was being allocated, but it most certainly wasn't being used towards sturdier plastic, which is where it SHOULD have gone, all things considered.

NTA, but that's a 2012 Botcon 'Timelines' repaint, not a custom. He was part of a box set alongside versions of Ultra Magnus, Tracks, Treadshot, Soundwave, and Metalhawk.

Got the Deluxe Rock Lord, Windblade, Animated Bee, and Chase, and Core Megatron, Tasmanian Kid, and the other Rock Lord.

Chase is a really interesting car bot, and much more successful as a "weird" transformation than Shadow Striker. Wind Blade is fine but feels like a checkbox filler more than something special, and her sword is ruined by being an effect. Rock Lord is probably the one people will care the least about but I think he's the most novel to me. Hope we get retools of him and a few other rocks.

Tasmanian Kid is very involved but feels meh to me. I have a lot of fond memories of the basic Beast Wars toys so I'm a little annoyed he got a toy and not Razor Beast or Iguanus or something. I hate Megatron's wings but he's a fine toy with a lot of accessories. The Rock Lord motorcycle is the toy I was most excited for from the entire line but has a bizarre stick coming out of its back all the way to its feet which renders all leg articulation moot.

I pulled my Generations Warpath out of storage, and I'm marvelling at his paint job: this isn't even a Takara release, just Hasbro! Damn I miss that era ~2008-2012. The paint jobs, the gimmicks, the transformations, figure shrinkage hadn't really set in, all fantastic. I'd give up ankle swivels and slavish geewun accuracy in an instant to go back.

You should really check out Newage
though they are generally more on the expensive side for their size
they are really good, their recent G1 Dinobots are probably the best iterations I've seen and they're pretty much the same size as the G1 toys

I love the whole concept of an armored ultra magnus, but none of the toys so far have made that concept work well enough. I think Hound's Prime form should reflect his holographic terrain abilities and his love of organic worlds like Earth. Sort of a druidic woodsman who can create hardlight terrain simulations and communicate with non-sapient organic life. I'm not sure about the name, I let Rodimus slide because it was new territory for the fiction but I like more serious, meaningful names. Would a giant wolfhound altmode be too on the nose? Something that doesn't tear up ecosystems with tires or treads, that has high maneuverability on Earthlike terrains.

My Legacy Windblade came in an hour ago, and while I never had the Windblade version of that mold, I do have that Airazor. Comparing the two, I like the new Windblade - she's less floppy and can actually stay together in jet mode, while my Airazor's legs never stay together. Can't speak to the face sculpt, since I never had a Wndblade before, but she doesn't look too horrible - a little doll-like, but it's not as horrendous as people here were making it out to be.
The two things I don't like are that her sword is a blast effect, and that her plastic is already showing stress marks. Seriously, what is up with Hasbro's plastic lately?

I can picture TM Megatron, although I feel like his Dragon version basically consumed that hope, but Rampage I feel like they'd have to do something significantly different. I can't remember a non-MP figure in recent memory that included rubber. I cannot picture current year Hasbro including the rubber treads gimmick for the tank mode sadly. the claws don't need to be that big for crab mode, they don't need to be that big as the tank tread fenders, and they SURE don't need to be that big on his back.
having the crab legs turn into the tread axles is fun and all but most of it is just a peg that the leg is CONNECTED to? on this big bar hanging off of him on each side? So that is totally omittable. If you want those parts, make them out of part of the crab shell so THAT is also not hanging off of his back

The the fuck is the point of a Beast Wars Rampage if he doesn't have massive claws and kibble hanging off everywhere, the why even bother making him? A huge part of his appeal is that he's a towering monster and limbs sticking out everywhere helps achieve that. They can omit the vehicle mode, or just make tread panels that can tuck into the claws with a wheel underneath since they probably don't want to mess with rubber.

yeah my childhood was characterized by incredible passivity. My mom said I'd come home from daycare with bruised up shins because kids would just kick them and i'd just take it. He's alright, never had the original, contemplating gluing his horns on because they just won't stay attached, but I remember reading people complaining about his cannon turret deforming because it was made of a softer plastic and the one mine came with feels like normal solid plastic, pretty confusing.

i miss gimmicks like that. real creative. when's the last time a NEW gimmick was invented? if you told me in the 90s that in the 2020s we won't even be using lenticular holograms anymore, let alone the really cool green-orange ones, and we won't have invented anything nearly as cool in the interim... i'd ask which stocks to buy.

Finally got home and had a chance to.mess with Kup. Hes got some clever engineering going into him. My one complaint is that they couldnt be bothered to paint a 1/4 inch energon goodie stick a nice energon-purple. But for the price I paid ($0, merry Christmas to my brother) and the price he paid ($11 courtesy of Ross) who can really complain? Playijg around with Cliffjumper and leader RoTF Starscream will have to wait for tomorrow.

Oh also toyed with Road Hauler earlier, cool mold despite the always screaming face. Engineering wise he feels almost less like Siege (I know hes Legacy but the original is Siege I think) and a lot.more like Titans Return in terms of hollowness and plastic quality. I have concerns about the pegs that hold his head in place, I'm not confident they will hold forever. Fun though! Again merry Christmas to everybody!

I’m probably gonna catch a lot of shit for this but I actually really enjoy him. You’re not wrong about the issues at all, I’m not delusional, but I still find him enjoyable. He’s better looking than the TM2 Megatron at least. I just find a neat pose and throw these shits in the cabinet with all the other figures anyways.
