It will likely crash and then rebound to prices higher than it is now, but only collected by a few people in comparison. Happens with most collectibles. The simple fact is unless you have a giant star wars collection worth thousands and thousands of dollars and it can easily be pawned off, your family is most likely just going to toss it in the trash when you die and increase the rarity of these toys even more.

That's actually a good point. Whenever I've thought of toys that are so old that the people who actually grew up with them have died of old age, they're usually kind of their own thing, like all those crazy army toys from the 1950s or tin robots or whatever, which do have their fans but those groups are vanishingly small. But then people still love the original Corgi Aston Martin DB5 or those Aurora model kits based on the classic Universal movie monsters so maybe being tied to something timeless helps a lot.

I had a similar conversation with my buddies before Christmas. It’s almost in uncharted territory. Disney has done so much damage to Star Wars as a brand that the movies and entertainment is so terrible it’s not hooking in kids. They’d rather watch Mr Beast or Ninja than watch a SW movie. It depends on how indoctrinated some of the kids whose parents have crammed SW down their throat. GI Joe is another one where it’s got an aging fan base. Hasbro keeps those Kenner style retros constantly released but even the die hards don’t like them.

I’m kind of an outlier. My dad grew up in the late 30s so his big stuff was radio shows and pulps. I had to sit through a lot of this stuff like the old B&W serials as well. My growing up age was when Star Wars first hit plus I had giant Japanese robots then the amazing 80s. Lately as I get older now I’m buying some of the shit my dad was crazy about and had me watch or listen to. I got an awesome Solomon Kane figure last year and really nice Dick Tracy and The Shadow on the way.

It'll probably be a bit longer before prequel nostalgia kicks into high gear. It's actually hard to say with more recent brands; it used to be that dudes started collecting toys once they settled down and got themselves an actual house which enabled them to actually start collecting, but with the constant emphasis on renting and the housing market being what it is, it's very likely that the amount of people actually in a position to collect anything will shrivel up as well.

I'm at the tail end of GenX so I caught the tail end of the SW phenomenon. I had zero interest in the toys growing up and would really prefer POTF2. I want to say they're fairly timeless but I can see nobody really caring about a movie from 1977 come 2050. I sure as hell don't care about most stuff from the 30s and 40s.

I think most kids who grew up with prequels played with the toys so much they are no longer in collectable condition, and now hate the franchise due to the sequels.

The real prequelfaggery is in the video games from 1999-200X, real good stuff.

mass produced bobbles became worthless, actual important memorabilia still remains stable though. The first set of Star Wars figures will remain with some historical value. Not much else though. Figures bought by collectors for authenticity to screen accurate will constantly be replaced and upgraded.

The only reason people love these toys is because boomers played with them, there's powerful nostalgia. With POTF2 everyone started buying them to collect but there's no memories attached. Its just boxes in the basement waiting to cash in someday. So who wants that shit? Where's the fond memories?

Kind of hard to say. Kids that played with them were Gen X. The oldest of them are my age, and I was eight when Star Wars came out. Youngest Gen Xers are in their early forties. So realistically you're probably looking at another decade before Xers start dying in droves. The flip side of that is there weren't that many of us. So when we go, it probably won't have a huge impact one way or another. From a personal perspective, I own every figure in OP's pick. All loose and played with. I held on to them out of nostalgia for the fun times I had playing with them, like recreating the Death Star trench run with an X Wing balanced on the handlebars of my bike, or battle scenes in the back yard. We always needed more Stormtroopers. But honestly, the franchise is pretty much dead at this point. Nobody is going to give a shit about it outside a few diehard fans in a decade, and these toys will just be interesting curiosities.>>10806366

Hard to say. Autos is another hobby of mine and you can see antique vehicles from the 30s, 40s, 50s all dropping in value across the board in a time of asset appreciation with muscle cars from the 60s-70s and vintage vehicles from the 80-90s all gaining traction. Markets definitely change as age groups who are the target demographic enter different stages of their lives.

High end, actually scarce stuff is typically always valuable and never "crashes", but there are definite trends.
