If it became a double barrel, a square, or a set of electrodes, it would be fine.
But at this point the bigger issue is most people know megs as a tank now.
He was a tank in G2, Armada, many of the CHUG toys, ROTF, the WFC games, Cyberverse, the WFC trilogy + toys, devastation, the new bumblebee movie design, and the evergreen/authentics design, and in the vast majority of the IDW comics run, and we're about to see what he is in the new comics.
He's been a gun in the original, and that toy, and that's it.
If they made him look like the original, but with more red accents, and a square lazer-barrel mimicking super megatron, I think a lot of people would be happy.
