Todd just can't seem to get the volume right. He makes way too much of the garbage and nowhere near enough of the good figures. When figures presell out in a week, he refuses to up his order or reissue them. I've barely bought any in a store in the last 2-3 years. Last one locally was either Arkham Riddler or the first Deathstroke (really). I did get a purple Catwoman in store but I was halfway across the country so it doesn't really count.

It's like trying to buy TransFormers. They never _ever_ have WFC/Legacy or SS86 on shelves. Spot is always empty. Piles of Cyberverse/Earthspark garbage though. DC, never any of the good figures, just piles and piles of movie Beetle statues or Drowned or Death Metal (really). Literal inch of dust on them.

I got Action Comics 1000 Superman to try out the line back in the beginning of 2020 and I was sorely disappointed. I never said I hated the toys. Quite the contrary, I hope he gets the Marvel license. There's a lot more to play with there compared to DC's limited roster, and they've already made most of the DC stuff anyone would want.
Repaints like the Mr. Freeze are unnecessary clutter, but that's just a way to make use of the sculpting which I understand from a business standpoint.

They scratched it by like the second wave. There's only so many DC characters that can sell.
And DC Direct already made pretty much perfect Watchmen figures.
And NECA made a Reeves Batman. The idea with McFarlane Multiverse was to produce versions of these characters that hadn't really been made before.
More Vertigo stuff like Sandman would be welcome, sure, but I doubt you could base an entire line on that. There will probably be some more obscure releases further down the line, like a Spectre or whateve. And there already is a John Constantine.

Death is simply too niche compared to the typical Justice League lineup. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets made eventually, but if even Todd isn't releasing certain characters, it means he didn't get the greenlight from WB/DC.
We already know they've turned down some of the McFarlane Toys team's ideas.
Before any Vertigo characters get made, I would sooner expect a Question, and even that is going into niche territory.
Meanwhile, you can make figures for the Avengers, F4, X-Men and a bunch of other teams with tons more characters in them, and people would buy them.
So really, it's more of a DC issue than a McFarlane issue that, say, Ragman hasn't been made yet.

Batman and Superman sell. John Constantine or Etrigan getting even a single release is about all you can really expect, unless the characters' popularity suddenly spikes up.
A lot of this is based on sales figures. And McFarlane Toys still sold well enough to beat out Marvel which I think is a testament not exclusively to DC as a brand but particularly McFarlane in terms of their products.
I don't think Mattel can outsell Hasbro at all.

That's kind of my point. Non-casual stuff doesn't really sell well. The difference between Marvel and DC is that even their more "non-casual" characters like, say, Moon Knight tend to be more popular and integrated than the DC equivalent of Ragman.

The bases that came with the Watchmen movie figures were fantastic. Three slots where you can insert pegs, universal look that works for superheroes, sci-fi, and fantasy, boosts up back row figures an inch so they’re more visible. Yes. And they simply look better a lot of the time. I do collect MLs, and I think they're ok, but I also just think McF will do better with the property if he gets the chance.
MLs release predominantly classic looks, which has changed somewhat over the years, but there's still a lot of reuse, whereas McF are more prone to paying for original sculpts, which is useful when you're interested in specific versions of a character.
For example, I waited for Hasbro to make a 90s Namor for years, and to their credit, they finally did, but I also know McF would've made a more accurate looking one.

It makes more sense of every level.
Chase figures in general are kind of a dead fad that Todd used to have some success with back when they were making the Spawn stuff, but those actually sold pretty well, and some of the chase variants are the most expensive ones on the second market today.
With DC Multiverse, no one really cares about the chase variants and it just clutters the line.

Todd might do niche shit like the Superman Unchained Armor, but it often looks pretty accurate. The ones that aren't accurate enough usually suffer from re-use.
The glow in the dark Mr. Freeze is a prime example of this.

That's a recolor. If you're referring to the sculpt, there are also some which are closer to the actual animation.
But in this instance, they used the shading which I hated on the Marvel VHS stuff too. I'm sure there will be non-shaded versions at some point but it is a mistake.
The original sculpt they went with for BTAS Batman doesn't look too bad though, the proportions are just more pronounced making it more obvious it's based on cartoon.

On the other hand, I think they got Khal Drogo's likeness closer this time around. The JL version was the least accurate of that wave.

These aren't bad but I wouldn't say they're superior.
The McF Black Manta is also superior as it's closer to the chrome look in the movie. Only real issue is the waist.

Found these guys rummaging around at flea markets recently and got them for just a few bucks each. Direct Alan and DCUC Batman. They surprisingly work well together. I've only ever had one Direct figure, that being Long Halloween Batman, but I think I dig their comic-booky sculpts quite a bit. I've never had any DCUC stuff, but this Batman's pretty fun to mess with, even if his articulation is incredibly dated. At least it's more than Alan's.

I dunno why, but something about this design has always tickled my fancy. Be it the goofy classic golden age, Brave and the Bold, or edgy modern version, I just think it looks cool. That figure could stand to have a smile though, since it's supposed to look like an old toy, and the golden age version would most closely resemble it and that guy wasn't very grumpy.
