The G2 Prime mold's sword having an extra tab on it purely so the majority of 5mm hands can't hold it is stupid, but it's the "axe" he comes with that's REALLY stupid.

Anyway, now that Deathsaurus is the greatest Transformer figure Hasbro has ever put out, what are you guys hoping for with the next haslab? The only hint as of yet being that it will be "omega sized" and the only anti-hint being that Optimus Prime will never ever ever be the focus of a haslab.

that is kind of hilarious. What's sad is, they could have made that work, but it would require a transformer who can choke up a little on his weapon, and that is anathema in the 5mm peg-hole days we live in. Because if you held it like one might hold a pipe wrench, it would look good
that's why I actually don't hate Tigatron's tail-flail (though I wish I could justify buying a blade for it) because he can actually hold his tailtip in a way that makes it look like a shillelagh

Local Walmart deep discounted those holiday 2 packs of unsold wave 1 and 2 Legacy figures down to $17 so I ended up buying the two wave on packs.

Drag Strip is so-so and I was shocked to find that his torso splitting gimmick requires a slim hidden button being pressed so he stays in one piece easily. A definite improvement over the CW figure but I don't know yet if I want to invest all that money tracking down the rest of the group. Especially Motormaster, who seems to be $100+ these days as far as latecomer tax goes.

Skid is a massive upgrade over the crappy IDW figure with it's hidden flip out weapons and garbage vehicle mode. But Skid's robot mode is so freaking plain and boring.

Prime Arcee is decent in robot mode but her bike mode is a pain to transform. Decent but my God, is there a reason she's blue not pink?

Finally, Kickback's robot mode is great but his bug mode is god-awful. And what the fuck is up with those two purple wing things? At least with the WFC Game Kickback, his energy wings fit in with his bug mode as wings whereas these don't.

Are there any more Legacy figures worth tracking down? I pretty much slept on the line as I was between jobs when it came out and the fact that HALF the line was nothing but Arcee and Skids repaints, 1/4th Beast Wars stragglers, and 1/4th Stunticons, made me not want to give it a try.

Combination of "boys don't buy pink toys" and Hasbro wanting to full-on divorce TF Prime Arcee from the original design after IDW made Arcee a mentally ill, axe crazy tranny and then quadrupled down on it even after they retconned Furman's autism by revealing that female Transformers existed and simply left the planet before the Great War started for the purpose of colonizing the stars.

double guns should always be on the forearm. that way you can rotate the wrist and fire Modo-style, or you can leave the arms at the sides and shoot gangster-forearm-style.
and if you're gonna have gun-hands, awesome.. but if there are ancillary fingers, just put them on the underneath or something.

Been watching some reviews and the GE Starscream honestly looks surprisingly good, if not for the cockpit. Apparently it's a super flexible plastic though, and since it's a large thin transparent piece, it would've broken easily had it been more a rigid plastic, and if they painted it as it is now, the flexability would've made it flake off.
Nevertheless, have any of you guys seen anybody attempt painting the cockpit? If not that, then I can imagine stickers/toyhax or something would maybe work, or no?

ohhhh i get you. yeah that might be tricky. Tell you what though, if you're talking about literally a strip around the edge? you might.. this is weird, but you might be able to do it with tape of the right color, cut very carefully. that will flex just fine.

you have me thinking about how like, I discovered that some of the paints i've been using dry quite rubbery and flexible, so they might actually be viable on soft plastic like t-wrecks.. but I can't imagine i'd be able to neatly mask around the blue stripes, so nah. he's gonna have to stay kinda ketchup colored instead of darker red metallic.

Thanks, Fedex. I hope they saved a few bucks by sending my package to a smaller delivery dervice that just dropped it in my front porch in the middle of thr night. I only got a notification about it the day after.

Hey /tfg/ I'm doing some cleaning of my childhood toy stash, I'm a primary Lego guy now, so I'm getting rid off stuff no one wants. I have pic rel.

It's not complete as few pieces are missing, I may find some, like the main gun, when i dig further. Stuff is burried deep in the attic, hard to get there.

Anyways, my question is, how much this stuff could be worth. It's not in mint condition and has some play marks. All stickers are good. I prefer it to find another home than staying there forever or landing on a garbage dump.

I will drop some photos when my search is complete.

I literally just got this guy as well, though he was a random impulse buy that just got delivered rather than a gift.
He's fun and I like his transformation - unfortunately, having never seen Stranger Things, I have no idea what's being referenced here. I still rate him pretty well as a decent toy in general, especially considering the drop in quality of Hasbro's more recent offerings (*cough* Windblade *cough* ReActivate 2 Packs *cough cough*).

If these don't ditch the clear plastic it will be a huge wasted opportunity since a lot of people would buy this pack just for that. Jazz has breakage problems, Sunstreaker's color matching is awful, not sure about Trailbreaker as I don't have him, but Hoist's color matching was awful so I imagine Trailbreaker probably follows suit. Wheeljack's problem is more with the yellowing white they used, but I'd prefer painted windows and toon accurate paint apps for his third go around.

Honestly I'd take unaltered reissues- I missed out on the four and Sunstreaker is super hard to find now. Also I much prefer Wheeljack with his rally livery rather than the boring as fuck cartoon look. Honestly the toon decos with opaque blue windows look terrible on CHUG toys, the extra sculpted detail jars horribly with the flat colours. But then I generally hate toon-literalism with G1 based toys anyway, it invariably looks dreadful.

Little haul today from a local flea market. Got these plus some non-TF goodies for $12!
I always liked Cybertron Soundwave's design, so I'm real happy that I found this Universe Blaster. His light light-piping is sick and he's a nice and big guy.
2007 movie Elita-One's kind of a weird little shortstack, but she's pretty cute in her own way.
The G1 guys are an awesome deal in and of themselves, even if they're missing some parts. I think it just gives them more character, y'know? Like they're old vets or something lol. Gotta love the heft and chunkiness of these old guys too. And for being as old as they are, their transformations are still fun and intuitive.
And then there's poor old Overload's remains. Yikes. Uh, what can I do with him in this state? I've got a Super-Con Optimus I can have tow what's left of him, but does it look like there's enough of him there to still combine with any of the Super Mode Primes? I wonder...

Its easier to watch than ever, netflix is the most popular streaming service, it wasn't well received by the artstyle tho (artstyle, not character design), some character faces are just awful looking.

Earthrise Seekers weren't retools of Siege, they were a completely original mold based on the Classics Seekers. They were also not okay. I originally planned to only get the Siege Rainmakers, but after seeing how terrible the Earthrise mold was I gladly bought Siege Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp. I've since bought every repaint of the Siege Seeker mold, and not a single Earthrise Seeker.

Tigerhawk showed up today. I never owned his original toy (or Razorclaw), so I don't have anything to compare him to other than pictues. I know that people had their complaints about this guy, and some of those are indeed valid - mostly about his proportions, but we'll get to that in a bit. There's some good in here, too.
To start, Tigerhawk is deceptively large - not so much in height, but in width. Not only does he have a MASSIVE wingspan (about 16 inches across with his feather-swords attached, plus the wings have joints at the base, in the middle, and can rotate forward or backward at the purple parts, making them very poseable), but he has a fairly broad chest, which is a big part of his proportion problem. His arms and hands aren't actually as small as stock photography pics made them look - the issue is that his bigh, wide chest is compeltely disproportionate with everything else that it makes the rest of him look undersized.
While he possesses bicep swivels, he has no wrist rotation at all despite his featehr tips now becoming swords/daggers for him to use (apparently these were missiles on his old toy) - sadly, this is becoming seemingly par for the course with Hasbro, forgetting just how important rotating wrists are for posing characters with melee weapons. He has a good amount of range with his shoulders, with both of his pauldrons having flaps that can lift up to let the arms move freely; he has ankle rockers, decent knees, and ratchet-jointed hips to try to help him hold standing poses with all that weight from those huge wings on his back. Sadly - but as expected - he has no waist rotation as a result of his transformation scheme.

Transformation to beast mode is actually kinda fun; most of the work involves separating the two white halves of his (super wide) chest and rotating everything else around in it - bird legs fold down from behind and then go through the front where the white panels were, his hips separate and move up similar to the old Silverbolt's hips, and the purple chest with the head and bird legs attached then fold down to clip into the area formerly occupied by the hip halves, tabbing in at the base of the feather loincloth while the robot head tucks in between the bird legs; the robot arms then spin around so the pauldron with the orblike spark chamber folds down to where the chest used to be while the one with the tiger head goes behind it. The left arm then goes between the wings and becomes the beast back while the right goes between the bird legs and covers the robot head; then the chest panels rotate back up and close in over the orb pauldron, hiding it from view while the small white flap with the smaller 'fake' orb on it folds down in front to create the illusion of the spark chamber shrinking down like it did on the show. After that, it's just a matter of flipping the purple parts of the robot legs/beast forearms up to thicken the thigh/upper arm while folding the robot feet and heels up and beast hands down.

While the transformation is interesting, the resulting beast mode, sadly, needs work. Again, a lot of the problem here is the proportions - this time, the cat head and robot legs/beast arms are way, WAY too big, which makes the rest of the body look small by comparison - those 'spindly chicken legs' people keep complaining are too small are actually around as thick as SS86 Jazz's arms and thighs, but you wouldn't guess it from how huge Tigerhawk's entire front is. On top of that, his 'cat' parts don't strike me as very feline, and look more ursine to me, as if someone took Polar Claw's entire front and slapped it onto a bird. Again, having never owned the original toy of the character, I have no idea if the proportions were always this wonky in-hand or if this is the result of the new engineering, but it's awkward. Another thing that annoys me is the way his entire rear section looks - the bird tail seems to pop up from the small of his back instead of hanging off the base of his spine, meaning his entire bird butt is just hanging out there; the tail feathers themselves can't actually lay flat, either, so they're always poking slightly up no matter what. Also, his cat head can look down but can't look up, and his beast arms don't have a very large range of motion at the 'elbow' - unlike the old Silverbolt toy, whose robot knees/beast arms could flex 90 degrees in both directions, Tigerhawk's cant bend up much further than what you're seeing in this pic, due to the fact that his robot mode has kneecaps that get in the way of the joint.
He still has his 'battle mode' from the old toy, though, looking at the pictures, it seems he no longer has his bird-visor that apparently should flip down over his head in this mode; still, his wings can swing forward and the gatling guns on his wings flip around to reveal a pair of cannons (which no longer have missiles, but can be detached and held in his robot mode hands).

On the one hand, he's got plenty of issues here - the beast mode definitely needed more work, and while the robot mode's weird proportions are a bit more easily ignored than the beast mode one's, he really needed some wrist articulation if they were going to give him swords. On the other, his transformation is fun, his robot mode isn't too bad (huge chest aside), and he has some decent gimmicks - the very poseable wings, the detachable swords, the flip-out cannons that can be handheld blasters - but the beast mode was really a disappointment here, which is a huge ding against him for me.
Overlooking the proportion issue and lack of flexibility in the beast mode head and arms, he's still a decent enough toy, and I'm honestly just glad to finally have at least SOME version of the character; I just hope they don't repeat these flaws with Silverbolt (yes, I'm aware he is actually a different mold).

Oh, and I guess you can do pic related if you ever wanted a four-armed mutant freak in robot mode, which is kinda neat.

Crunched packaging with a discount is cool but I draw the line when it comes to severe water damage. Your going to spend more time trying to clean it that it's worth.

And your never going to get it really clean because theres probably all these little void spaces inside the toy filled with filth and water that you can't reach unless you disassemble the entire thing.

Completely agree, it's crazy how big of a step backwards the Earthrise mold is. I'm content with my Siege Seekers until Hasbro does a proper update not based on an old outdated mold. Felt the same way about Optimus, was not a fan of the Earthrise mold and was happy enough with Siege to wait for an inevitably better take. Hopefully the upcoming SS86 is all he should be.

Funnily the G2 colored FoC Bruticus wound up being the easiest one for me to get back then, as the gamer colored ones were going for a lot when demand was high and the store versions were both unappealing and sparsely distributed around me. I still like them, Onslaught is the weakest though. Vortex is probably the best, and Brawl looks great imo while being kind of crap.

I wish the near-universal hatred of the ER Seeker mold had some effect on their aftermarket prices, lmao. the original.. definitely had huge tiger arms, not much you can do about that when they become the robot legs. but because of how the torso transformed, he was a lot more proportional in both modes. it's a very baffling design choice.

it's not the easiest, but it's doable if you have a patient hand and good close-up vision (and/or a pair of reading glasses or a light-up magnifier on a stand)
you buy some good acrylic paints, ideally ones specifically meant for model kits (I like Vallejo), thin them slightly if required, work in thin coats, letting each one dry before adding the next (so you don't end up with a rubbery mass that peels off). Possibly start with primer, if you're a nerd. and finish it with clearcoat spray so it doesn't scrape off. Try to pick a custom color that will still work if some of the original shows through, at, say, the joints, and not look terrible (in this case yeah, dark brown will be okay if you can still see some light brown)

Zoids dub had a ton of that. Like, Japan has a lot of trouble pronouncing Schwarz, but they still included a guy named Schwarz. and the dub, which you'd expect to either use that (pronounced with ease), or make up their own name, but instead they A) rigidly stuck to the original and B) did not consider for a second 'shubarutsu' might be something meaningful that they should take a second look at. Evidently the names were given to the localization team in katakana.

My town had a thriving flea market scene in the early/mid-90s and I scored a TON of Transformers that way.

But by the late 90s, it got super shitty and all you had were people selling expired meds, toiletries, clothing, and the few people selling comics and toys stopped coming. And the few that were, were scalper types who were selling G1 reissues mint in box for $50/100 a pop.

They've since shut down the main local flea market location and turned it into a muddy hellhole where local timber trucks unload cut down trees for transport to other locations. And another local tried to set up another spot but did so on the nearby four lane, in a really dangerous spot where there have been a steady stream of car wrecks from people trying to pull into the place/leave the place. And the one time I went there, it had the same people selling the same expired meds and toiletries and other garbage that ruined the previous flea market spot

Yeah, it went from being roughly the same size as the entire tiger head pauldron in robot mode to only around the size of one of his eyeballs in beast mode. Mainframe also shrank both Megatron's spark crystal and OpOp's cockpit when they were in robot mode so that they could have actual chests, which the original toys lacked.

i didn't notice that at all, weird. I loved the big ol dome on tigerhawk's toy, but I guess it would have gotten in the way for posing a cg model. and I definitely didn't notice they shrank opop's cockpit, it was the most prominent of the 3 on the show
yeah tm2 megatron's one was kinda bulbous in the old toy, I never had that one but it is kind of a goofy affair.

Primal's was only shrunk slightly compared to the other two - just enough for the orange bits of his chest to be visible on either side of the cockpit, while the original toy had the entire space between the two blue 'wheels' completely covered by it.

I wish G1 had a current definitive version of those characters though, I mean I don’t want G1 rehashed forever I miss the early 2000s where we had more new and original stuff but what are the versions of those characters to put on a G1 shelf right now? Siege and Earthrise I guess. Saw a thread on a TF board saying how there was a running change on TM2 Megs when he got his repack in Legacy Evolution and saw him discounted a bit on Amazon, so I bought this guy a second time. I usually don't do that and was going to pull the ole "switch figure, mark as defective, send back" thing since I thought the dragon claws were defective since they didn't seem to want to tab into the robot chest and he had huge purple paint blobs on him. Decided not to do that and to keep both and just use the old one to try modding to make him better and then sort of Frankenstein a figure out of the best parts. Glad I did.

Now this dude has a DNA kit hand and face, some paint mods to make the legs pop a bit, a mod to his back kibble to make it tab in and lock the entire shoulder assembly in, and 2 ruined thumbs trying to get the exact right amount of excessive force to get the chest tabs in correctly and securely later and I think I have one of my favorite figures. He doesn't quite match the show, but I always thought even as a kid that the CGI model had weird fucking proportions that made him look goofy and not intimidating at all in the show. After all these mods I can say that I honestly think I prefer these proportions minus the dragon elbows sticking out of his chest. He just looks like he could throw down, I guess.

I wish Hasbro at least put these extra paint apps on him for the release. I appreciate they swapped the wing tips and toned down the chest purple on him on the repack though. I don't even think the original head sculpt was that bad desu, but I just wanted something smoother.

Anyways I hope we get more Transmetals or Transmetal 2's. I know Silverbolt is coming. Also if you're that guy who keeps saying they said they're not making Transmetals I'm going to come to your house and tell your mom you're telling lies. DO NOT REPLY I DO NOT GIVE CONSENT.

She is pretty great - got mine in the 3-pack with Mirage and Bumblebee. Bee sucked, Mirage was decent, but she was definitely the best of the group.
By the way, it's actually possible to make her fold her wings up in Beast Mode with a little fiddling - just detach the brown parts of her wings, rotate the wing/leg around, them bend them both back against her body.

Nope, that's what I mean. You have to use a ridiculous amount of force and just the right angle for the claws to tab in. I seriously thought I got 2 defective units and I was getting mad looking at peoples' figures from review channels because I felt like my problem was rare. I think the trick is lining up the tab *below* the slot and pushing both up and into the slot. The one on mine still pushes itself out sometimes but when I finally get it right it sits pretty firm.

The reason the shoulder assembly pops out is because of 2 things. The little tab that keeps it in place is very short. You need to make sure it's snug in the slot, but also if you do this quick mod I did with some cutters, this central strut is keeping the beast chest from slotting into the robot back snugly, which in turn keeps the entire shoulder assembly stable as it was meant to. How do I know it was meant to? What else would that tab on the chest be for? and also in the CG renders of the figure before release, it sits snug to the back.

The factory manager did a number on what could easily have been a perfect figure. Between being confirmed that they edited his robot mode teeth to look all fucking goofy and what I assume is adding this central strut, he basically made him have dangly kibble just sitting there creating a ticking time bomb for when you tap it and make the shoulders dislodge instead of securing the whole thing. So stupid. I wish I didn't know that factory managers could do that because now I'm literally going to question every design mistake from now on.

Included a pic of the tab you can trim. As you can see it's an easy fix.

Get a micrometer, they're like $15-$20. That helped me immensely when I was monkeying around with a friend's old 3D printer

The ankle joint is pinned so it only bends forward, not backward into the slot previously occupied by the dragon head/tail tip. That being said, the foot itself actually DOES fit into the void, and fills it out quite nicely - here I've detached the foot from its balljoint and used a rubber band to hold it in place. If they had figured out how to make the ankle/balljoint to rotate around as part of the transformation, it would have been perfect.

Yes, yes, this satisfies. Even the ball isn't so bad, but like I said earlier I imagine an upgrade kit could stick something nice on there. Maybe a row of spikes that connects all the way up to the head.
Thanks for illustrating it so clearly. This also makes me suspect that, at some point, they DID plan for it to work this way, but budget fucked it. So now I just have to convince someone to make a kit to facilitate this better.. or learn it myself.

It may be a bit more difficult than it looks - the way the whole dragon head;/ankle mechanism is attached to the shin prevents it from moving around. The only solution I can think of is to remove the entire shin and replace it with one that has a rotating cuff where the joints attach, so the entire apparatus spins around; this would also mean that the dragon head/tail tip needs to be installed backwards so they're pointing upright when you transform it. But maybe you can figure something out that'll work better.

Correct - here's a shot of the foot mid-transformation, so you have a better idea of how it works. The dragon head has to rotate around, the horns flip down to cover the eyes, and the entire thing folds back into the neck hollow while the ankle flips up into the spot the head previously occupied; the tail tip is more straightforward, since there's no rotating involved. So yeah, if you were going with the whole 'partsform the feet into the holes to hide them' route, they'd have to be detached for the transformation to work. But considering Crimsonflame's entire back is made up of a partsforming shield that needs to be removed for the transformation (and it is a welcome addition, given how awkward Steelbane's and Skullitron's beast mode backs look), I don't think that would be too much of an issue.

They DID recolor him a bunch of times. My favorite was the clear green Limited Edition AOE Sling version, though i still have no idea whose side Sling is on because he has no faction symbols anywhere on him or in his instructions, not even a Minicon symbol.

Glad he got there with no issues. He's a fun one, probably my favorite version of him in recent years, along with Ratchet. Sadly, he does need a little paint - I had to give him his yellow stripe in the side and do both his and Ratchet's rear windows. Not sure if anyone's done a sticker set for them yet, but in Ironhide's case especially , it really does go a long way.

the dragonfly mode is fun and cool, though extremely chunky. easily mistaken for a cicada or something.
robot mode is fun, and the mouthparts make decently satisfying fingers. but the bug-head-halves are kinda toyishly obviously hollow, the pelvis is stumpy, legs a bit far apart, and while the chest-wing placement is interesting, he's got nothing left that actually looks like it would assist in flight. And those missiles? they only face forward in beast mode. Robot mode he's stuck with the water-squirter mouth weapon (and that means his head can't move much)
I'm still really glad i got him, I remember his commercial where he was advertised alongside Bonecrusher, and I got him too. Similar deal with being great but having mild flaws.
I would love to get his recolor "Tonbot" at an affordable price

Can't speak for the later toys, but the original had the excuse of being fucked up due to gimmicks - his left arm was springloaded and completely imploded to reveal his blasters, his right arm held his mace, and both arms were attached to spinning gears that were part of his 'pounding his gorilla chest/swinging his mace' mechanized gimmick. With all those moving parts, it's a miracle they were able to get functioning elbows in there at all.

A repainted movie primal, the official toys are either too small, too big or too far from what hes supposed to look like.

Most f the beast machines characters have the same issue, only Cheetor, Blackarachnia, Bike-inator and Strika had good figures closer in scale and looking like the animation models.

Yeah, I think you meant Obsidian - the only thing he's missing are the fingers (which he was able to retract into his guns on the show anyway) and a show-accurate paint scheme (though his Universe toy comes close).
Of course, I'm still bemoaning that we never got anything near an accurate Jetstorm. While I doubt Hasbro would touch Beast Machines with a ten foot pole these days (though technically, they kinda did when they gave us T-Wrecks), I would still like to see them finally give us modernized, accurate Vehicon Generals.

Didn't like ReActivate Optimus that much. Transformation was too fiddly, his side flap thingies hardly have enough clearance and the plastic tolerances are worrisome - mine had stress marks on several of his hinges right out of the box.
Also he literally can't hold his gun, which sucks.

Her main color is a less vibrant brawn and they didn't try to add the feather lines, thats "ok", but then they forgot to add gold to her abs and even the tan to her thighs and arms that the hasbro version got right.

The only 2 packs that could be called upgrades over the kingdom decos are the Primal, Cheetor and Tigatron ones.

The other side of the thighs is more visible, guess you could swap parts, the abs are easy to paint, Iused a gold sharpie on mine.

The shoulders are supposed to be gold and her biceps tan on the inside and outside, the biceps have gold detail, since the figure uses the same part for shoulder and biceps one of the 2 colors had to be compromised.

But we should expect both colors on this "premium" 2pack.

Basically the shin flap piece is thin and due to Hasbro's random tolerances they're usually tight, sometimes too tight that it can break so it's best to sand down the peg to prevent that.

Yep, it's a combination of this and design flaw. The flap has a point where the plastic is too thin, so grabbing it by the edge can put too much stress on it and cause it to break. I've been careful with mine and added shock oil, but it still feels too tight so I really want to sand it before it gets stress marks or breaks.

Fun bait, but even by this logic it'd be more accurate to call Transformers a British brand considering that every single show since Beast Wars takes directly from the Marvel comics, in which the majority of the biggest creatives were UK staff. Didn't G1 tank after the movie which is where Ultra Magnus was introduced? Is that what you're talking about? If anything we should be doing 1000 times more Beast Wars since it literally saved Transformers. Your logic is so weird. I think Magnus is a fine figure, but you're calling us corporate shills when it's the same company and then going on about size and proportions when arguably Prime has better proportions and is even bigger and does more things. I just dunno what your angle is. Magnus is great, but people are allowed to like Prime better.

I personally prefer him over Armada Prime because I don't care about Armada, but both are quite good Commanders.

Owning Magnus specifically, he ended up in my top 5 of 2023. There's really no real issues whatsoever and I love the little details that perfect the alt mode and fill out the robot mode, this really feels like a labour of love from Evan.

And Snarl is better, Tarn is better, 86 Magnus is on par, the new mold Junkions are better,

Armada Optimus is good but he is outclassed by other figures

Just because it has more modes doesn't make it better

I never liked the Armada Prime truck, and both robot modes have an issue with their crotch since the super mode has the worst crotch plate in a while alongside a bit of a backpack, and the core robot has an elongated dick

Magnus' biggest issue is he doesn't have a third mode that he never had anyways? Idk man that's a reach
