Why is Takara using the Hasbro English names for THEIR OWN characters? Japanese fans are confused as to why God Fire Convoy is being called Omega Prime.

I guess since it's a Haslab, i.e. Hasbro, it's technically Omega Prime. What did they do for Star Saber and Deathsaurus? Or maybe the social media guy just isn't familiar with the original character.

Haslab, so it's being pushed by Hasbro and the name used is the one it got for their market, and for consistency they use the same name on all markets. This didn't happen with other Haslab's because they either shared names or had no English name and just kept the Japan name.

They didn't call them Sutā Seibā and Desuzarasu, so they are at least being consistent.

Takara has more or less dropped the name Convoy, they have for years.
The only leeway is the Masterpiece series which is meant to be faithful to the original Japanese shows, but anything part of mainline Generations (which Haslab is supposed to be, they're branded as part of the WFC/Legacy toyline) has to use the English names.
And even Masterpiece has exceptions. Pic related had to be called Leo Prime because he's technically an OC and not beholden to the original name rule.

That specific mp has a different issue, Lio Convoy canonically changed his name to Leo Prime after BW Neo and Dark Amber is his body revived so he still goes by Leo Prime. That being said, yeah, if the media wasn't directly based on the Japan G1 Universe, they stick to western naming and even then, LG had a number of characters change their names to their western counterpart.
