I personally can't abide by it. Even on official products if I see misaligned printing, missing paint, warped sculpts, scuff marks, etc. I can't even display it as it makes me feel depressed. Bootlegs typically have all of those things, unless they are high quality third party stuff, which is usually expensive as well.
Your bread analogy doesn't work because it is a consumable/perishable product, meaning the quality is of less importance. Alcohol or fragrances are probably the only ones that also are luxury items.
At the end of the day if you consider your toys "perishable" and buy them with the intention of eventually throwing them out, then it totally makes sense. I just don't think a lot of people here have that mentality and so prefer to buy products of higher quality regardless of price.
