Right now, I'm currently working on revising an old MoC of mine that I really liked. Their head is pretty heavy so I'll need to put pistons in the torso to support the upper body. I'm also taking lot's of inspiration from Miserix's build and I want to make them more dragon like as a result.

theyre interesting, kinda terrible, had quite a few of them when i was a kid and the combiner models were fun, but i always hated the feel of the figures, too weird and smooth. which is weird cause i loved the 2.0 wave of hero factory.

I tried with my most recent one (blue), but it looks weird to me. I know white isn't entirely true to human anatomy, but I don't actually mind. They're armored up fantasy warriors, they don't have to be too human. I think the green one needs an overhaul tho, a fully custom torso would be way better than relying on the Mata one.

Update: I’m almost done! I really had to reinforce the legs though because they can’t really hold themself up anymore. All I need to do is to finish their staff. And you know I just had to put a rhotuka spinner in there aka the best BIONICLE weapon of all time.

Oh this is looking lovely! I'm a little worried about the rahkshi backs being floppy but otherwise it looks solid.
Biggest area you might want to fix up are the forearms, both in the red voodoo ball and breaking up the liftarm flow to be more organic with the rest.

Thank you for the critique. I really didn’t want to use red balls for the elbows (they came with my Hero Factory Brain Attack Bruizer set) but all I have left are Mata balls which I had to resort to for some of the pistons >w<.
The Rahkshi backs, like you’ve said, are pretty floppy, but I kinda interpret them like armour faulds at this point. Idk what to do with the forearms :(

Sounds like we need to get you some black through-holes. They're cheap at least if you ever hop on bricklink.
The rahkshi backs are up to taste of course. I figured that was your approach, and with that in mind they're probably fine to keep there unless someone else has a better idea.
As for the forearms...yeah I can't offer much at the moment. Maybe something to just workshop down the road. Obviously they work for now, but I'd say those should be the first area to improve if you tweak her.

Update 2: I think I’m done! They’re looking great (to me anyways) I think because they’re so heavy now, they need more reinforcements in the hips and the shoulders because - whew - they cannot hold up their legs or their weapon for shit. But other than that, I’m happy with the way they turned out

What country and where did you get the lot (thrift store, ebay etc)? There are real white Huna but they are extremely rare. Showed up in Scandinavian countries in 2001 I think. Came alongside brown Komau in a (non-Lego) "variety pack". But there may be reproductions out there too. Did the lot by chance also include a brown Komau? you probably have a real one but the numbers on the back are easy to replicate since people resin cast these. either way like i sad before fake or real its a great find. if its authentic you should keep it forever or sell it in the future if you need the money for something important. could probably get a large amount for it if its genuine.

I always find Slugger's videos really cozy. He's not too down the rabbit hole of any one theme to come off as obsessed and his way of speaking and voice aren't nearly as bad as a lot of AFOLs. Plus, his editing style is nice, primarily utelizing irl builds. I wish more content like his would be made. Feels like a lot of new videos about Bionicle these days are mainly just from out of touch millenials or zoomies that avoided the line entirely and are only doing retrospective pieces as an outsider looking in. In regards to the vid itself though, I agree with a lot of his points. Always disliked the Metru shoulders, colors, and axle mask connections. Personally loved the kanoka though. Wish we say more colors/patterns released.

As a kid the things that bothered me about the Metru were the limited shoulder and neck articulation and the lack of variation in their builds, I never thought of them as deal breaking issues though. By that point I already accepted that Bionicle sets have flawed articulation, and the Toa Metru felt like a huge step forward compared even to the Rahkshi. I also liked that they went back to the more mechanical look of the Toa Mata but made it very sleek, they didn't have the blockiness and the broken flow in design most earlier sets had. In this aspect, later years felt a bit like a downgrade, the way they went back to blockier designs compared to the Toa Metru.
I didn't care about the masks and the disks though, as I never got any of the collectibles before. And I even liked that the masks weren't so flat anymore and didn't fall off that easily. I also liked the darker and edgier color schemes.

I like this channel, feels more high-effort and passionate than most Lego channels and not afraid to have controversial opinions.
I agree about the color schemes, shoulder articulation and tacked-on secondary weapon modes for some of the Metru. However, I disagree on some points. For example, I think the Metru heads are great because they have backwards compatibility with the previous masks without axels and because they end in a balljoint for default neck articulation. It's a graceful solution to the "we don't want our new masks to fall off anymore" problem.
And the fact still remains that the Metru were the first canister sets to have elbow articulation and the ones to have the most points of articulation while still having a gear function. Both pretty huge upsides. I think the idea that the designers shouldn't add knee or elbow articulation because it's not compatible with some parts from the previous three years is odd.

Really nice stuff, man.

Posting the Hordika revamps from last summer while the Metru are being discussed.

The Metru build looks nice, but the guy in the video is right that it feels like a closed system, and there's no good way to add shoulder articulation. That said, the Mata torso is also sort of "closed" in how it functions, and the idea of the torso being a single block is always going to be limiting.

Now Nuju. All the combinatorial differences between them made these revamps really cool to me. Matau's vine arms vs. Nuju's ski-style sickles give them entirely different feels despite sharing the same structure otherwise.

Onewa is the only one I found a little boring, but even he's pretty cool with the minotaur-esque look.

The idea is to have one for all the 8 colours (not gonna do silver and gold) of the Kakama. I'll call them the Toa Quaref, as in QRF, quick response force. Cheesy asf, but I kinda dig it.
They are giving me some trouble tho, as I want weird but clean colour schemes and I keep rebuilding them, never really finishing.

I managed to rebuild my first ever bionicles, Pohatu and one of the Nui-Rama from a box of loose lego bricks and bionicle parts. So it's certainly not impossible. Only got parts for one of the Nui Rama, but the rush of nostalgia and accomplishment after building them was great, I was legitimately a bit moved.

It's weird when he assumes early rough kitbashes and prototypes with obvious placeholder masks were at some point meant to be sets they'd release as final products. Like, those were never meant to be anything more than early proof-of-concept designs. They obviously wouldn't have released Onewa and Whenua (or Vakama and Matau) with the same mask.

The canisters have a plenty of extra room. My 2001 Toa are stored in their canisters, but there's actually 2 copies of each in every one. I've gotten those through lots, plus it's fun to have both the team and the Kaitas.
Each canister still has room for extra masks I have for each Toa. I'd wager five metru torsos would fit.

Well, it's Lego. Everything is compatible with everything. Though the ball joints are compatible with Bionicle ball joints if that's what you're asking. Some of the pieces also have Technic pin and axle holes.

That's a really cool build/silhouette, but yeah those colours are painful. Even barring the masks, switching over to silver wouldn't even be doable without swapping out a lot of parts, and that pearl gold + trans blue is too nice to ditch.

Yeah, I really wish I could ditch the gunmetal, black, grey, and especially the red, at the very least. Even the Rahkshi hip I'm using for their hips is GREEN. If I could replace the hands with trans-blue ones, even better. I thought I had a lot of blue but when I dumped out my pieces, I could scarce find matching limbs.

Drew this today. It's a drawing of an old Toa team I made around a decade ago. IDK how to stylize drawing Bionicle parts in a way that simplifies them but keeps them looking accurate. I also tried to take the two Inika-masked characters and translate their masks to more traditional inorganic kanohi.

Without the Nuva bum the tail looks awkward and sticks out too much. I’ll see what I can do to extend arms and make the torso taller. It’s my first female build so thanks for the criticism.

I suspect the tail will be less of an issue once you restructure the torso. Idk how many parts you have, but you might wanna get rid of the ccbs frame. The tail connects via technic axle, correct? You could connect a ball joint to it and then connect that via a socket at the bum. That way it might not stick out as much and you might even be able to pose it a bit. Experimenting is key, Anon. My first of every build sucked.

Yea, and LEGO is unironically partially to blame. They were notoriously difficult to work with, and couldnt commit to any design decisions/requirements for the 2003 game. Ended up with a half-baked product cause they kept making Argonaut change shit. The studio got no royalties out from the deal in the end, which was a huge financial blow
