Can anyone ID this Obelisk the Tormentor figure? I asked in the store and they said it's the 1996 model kit but I looked it up and it looks very different from this figure. I'm wondering if it might be a custom.

I own the model kit, and the sculpt in that one is the same, but it didn't have those joints. Either a custom or a weird variant I don't know.

Master and Monster figure 2 packs from Mattel. There was one with Yugi & Slifer, Kaiba & Obelisk, and Marik & Ra.

Looking back on it the Mattel toyline really was something else. So many unique moulds for the minis and action figures plus all the model kits basically guaranteed you an entire deck's worth of monsters in figure form. Might honestly be one of the more underrated toylines.

Nowadays we're stuck with shit like pic rel which might as well be a statue. At least it seems Japan is helping the series make a comeback in toy form.

We're in a bit of a YGO boon right now. SHMA with BEWD and REBD, and Bandai also has kits for BLS, Exodia, BEWD), Revoltech with Neos and Junk Warrior, GSC with model kits of Zeus, Accesscode Talker, Snail Shell with IP Masquerena. Things are looking up, at least. Most toylines in the past had great variety that just can't be compared to today. It was admittedly much cheaper at the factory side of things to today, plus seemingly any toy line could live at retail at least for a little while.
