THIS is what I want from Fansproject (and most 3P companies) Stylized designs of existed characters, cause often the aesthetic strays way too far from the original (Lookin at you Maketoys and Cassy Sark)

Yes, and some have, Pic related.

Problem is maas producing a toy is fucking expensive. You need to have an appeal to get these things produced, and nabbing a popular design is a surefire way to appeal. Until 3D printing is widely available and it's quality can rival mold-injection, we'll only see an occasional independent transforming robot toy.

I wish FP did more stuff along the lines of steelcore before they started on their quality downturn, it seemed like he was universally well received. You're right though, an original transforming robot is a hard sell when one of the first questions your market will ask is "how close to the cartoon is it?" Like, the two in the OP are so obscure that it's nuts, but they're STILL safer than original stuff.

Blindfire is nice. Straightforward and dynamic. Even with the partsforming I like the weapons and alt mode so much I don't care. I would really like the Ripper repaint but its going for way too much now. I had to fight with him for about 5 minutes before I figured out you push on the thrusters to expand the legs. I wouldn't say the wing kibble is bad at all. It's your typical fold against the legs standard.

My favorite of the bunch is Sonic Drill. Even though his transformation scheme feels like the designer is jerking themselves off over how many times they can flip and hinge a torso into a flat block, he ends up looking sleek in alt mode. Have to fanmode the kibble in robot mode.

The other 3 aren't worth it unless you need them to combine.

All their non-upgrade kit stuff is Legends scale. I don't know if the sniper and scout set is even out at most places, but they're remolds of Sonictech and Fellows (Blaster) who has been out for a while and he's the size of Legends Powerglide.

Legends size bro. that size class is Iron Factory's forte.

I've heard good things about the Blaster mold (who perceptor and soudnwave are repainted from). Comes with alot of weapons and accessories and nice articulation from what i heard.
The alt modes are the weakest part, it just sorta folds up into nothing

I'm more excited about Iron Factory's Optimus and Black Shadow!

Because not many people do good Legends toys. the reason they cost so much is because of the accessories or if they're big (like magnus or overlord)

Their Windblade toy is small and comes with one accessory, she just costs 20 bucks

Yes, but we could do with some more Cyberjet style figures.

Different aircraft, play with the transformations a bit, but keep the translucent t-visors, balls joints everywhere and simple transformations.

All new characters. Just more.

Yeah, unfortunately, I am not made of money, not by a looooooong shot. Which is why I was looking at War Lord. Since he's the cheapest by several hundred dollars, but he's still ridiculously expensive.

How is the articulation on him? Is he at least as good as the current Combiner Wars individual figures and their gestalts?

Warlord is pretty much serviceable in all aspects. That's what makes him appealing; it's also why he has trouble making headway. Like, pretty much every component of Feral Rex is a really neat standalone figure, and they combine into a shelf-destroying mammoth, but War Lord is just kind of "okay, here are some five robots I guess, and they can combine into this big warlord guy, grrrr." It's a first outing, so that's to be expected, but don't expect to be wowed by any aspect of it. You'll pretty much never end up displaying the team, because the individual robots are generally pretty unambitious.

They actually look like they fit in with proper Transformers though. They don't look overly detailed or "stand out" too much, at least from the pics I'm looking at, which is good. A 3rd party you can't tell apart from the real thing is a very good thing to me.

I am concerned with how the wings on the bird are though. They snap off of some really thing looking circular pegs. Is there a possible breakage issue there? Will they stand up to time and wear?

I sold mine for about that price iirc. He's really neat and all the individual figures were cool, but I needed the money more than the robot. Don't miss him too badly though, which seems to be the case with all the MMC figures I've had and sold so far.

You might have been the one I bought it from.

Hexatron gets a lot of flak for his detailing, but he's easily My favorite 3P figure, and I got the stealth Azalea and the Salvia Prominon, both of which I like a lot too. The only Reformatted figure I've had any issues with was Cynicus.

I'll probably pick up Impactor. I really like Seraph Prominion but that $200 tag is a real killer.

I liked Hexatron too, but sold him. I've got Salvia, she's nice, but after playing with her for a week I haven't picked her up off the shelf.

Impactor and the black version look really nice, however I really don't like the curved, organic look of seraph. really don't like. so at least that's saving my wallet.

First there was a crack on his crotch where the plate slides in, then the screw on the other end of that plate stripped, and then his right hand split in half.

I contacted MMC, and they did say they will send replacement parts.

I noticed the crack the second time I transformed him. Put him down for a month or two, when I picked him up again, the screw stripped and hand broke within minutes of each other. Right after I emailed MMC about the issues.

I noticed other people having QC issues with Cynicus too. Of course, they also say the same for Fortis' buttplate, but I have no issues there.

Terminus was awesome for a long time on the shelf. He looked great standing above everyone. Eventually the isdues started to get more glaring, mainly the detailing, small hands, shit thumb, poor feet stability, and lackluster altmodes got to me.

Salvia Prominon in still awesome, fiddle with it on my desk all the time. Easily my favorite toy at the moment, so much posability.

There's two apparently. One OS one that looks simplified and hollow to hell, but only like 70 usd (converted straight from chinese yen).
There's another, well known, KO company working on making a 1:1 ko too. In both nero and og colors. They're a well established Saint Seya ko company and own their own factory to keep costs down. They'll be ~25 usd each supposedly.

Sentinel takes old robots and revamps them all the time, and they never look weird, they never look overdone, and they never stray too much from the source

I feel like most third parties don't actually have good artists and designers, just good "3D modelers," if that makes sense. They can add rectangles to surfaces and know how to engineer a transformation but have no sense of style and color. That's why you get things like Quantron.

For Dinobots? No. Not until one line underperforms so bad it has to go on sale. Interestingly none of them seem to be doing that but Bullsfire's swoop. The only ones that go with FoC grimlock are Planet X's, and they just toppled the original FOC mold many times over with Vulcun.

There are some older budget priced third party things. We had a list going but Black Friday had a number of decent deals.

The CW versions have several mistake including:

a) badly designed Brawl (I know he is an anti-aircraft tank in the Energon version)
b) a Swindle that is bulkier than than the others.
c) jet plane Blastoff

And the paint apps for the Hasbro version are pretty bad imo for Brawl and Vortex and Swindle.

All in all the two versions come out pretty much even.

I think this figure was made in the same factory as Spartan / Turmoil. It shares the same super high quality feel. I mean you can literally pick him up and shake him and nothing moves. Might be my favorite 3p release this year.

He has so many gimmicks man. The spider drone is just awesome, all the legs have two points of articulation, a ball joint at the base, and a hinge half way. Plus you can mount the gun on it.

The electric chairs helmet can flip out of Kaons backpack in bot mode so that he can pick someone up and electrocute them or maybe use it as a cannon.

Plus, the chair can expand and shrink to fit really any size figure. The engineering is top notch man.

What am I ever gonna do with an electric chair I said......

It is kind of a novelty. There aren't many Transformers that have divergent non-vehicle alt modes anymore, let alone turns into a chair that you can put other figures on. Tarn will sell like gangbangers if they make him less shitty looking than the renders now. It's the other two that may face problems.

Still, one turns into a smelting chamber with little grabby arms and the other uses his vehicle treads as a convener belt to feed robots into his chest grinder. I don't even give a fuck about the team and that sounds rad as fuck.

Hey, if you do dig FP's Dinobots, then by all means. A lot of people have been shitting on them, and while I'm all in on the whole set (probably minus the 6th OC member) and I do like them, they aren't without their flaws. Sludge was a nice start but feels a bit underengineered compared to Slag. Slag is fantastic in both modes buuuuut getting him back and forth (robot to dino in particular) gets a bit messy with the amount of shit moving around and you end up with clearance issues. Swoop is alright. His bot mode looks great and it was awesome of them to include both a blue and red torso so you could choose comics/cartoon or G1 toy colors but his dino mode is pretty wonky. I can't knock him too hard for that considering how much everybody has been struggling to make a decent avian from, but he seemed to have been the tipping point for a lot of people to jump off the FansProject dino train early. I'd recommend looking for pics of him, and more importantly, their Grimlock before deciding to get the rest of the team. I personally think it's a cool re-imagining but the design has been pretty polarizing.

I've actually seen all of them in person. I was in TFcon last July since I live literally 1 bus away from the place where it's held and I always liked the their designs but I couldn't justify their Canadian price tag. It was by coincidence that a person I know was selling it for $95 Canadian and my buddy offered to get me a Christmas gift that is under $100 so everything worked out fine. Now I just have to find them on decent deals.

FYI the scale is also similar with the TW Dinos so if you want to mix and match, you can do that since some of the FP ones didn't turn out very well. There is also the Planet X ones that are based on the Fall of Cybertron video game designs which are on a similar or smaller scale (for Slag and Swoop).

Cause combiners are for the better lack of it, if I get one usually I get all of them for the sake of me keeping them in combined mode even though if they are better individually. That's why I only stick to one line at a time especially if the other line is a combiner but if its like regular stuff that isn't combiner related I could switch them up. Thats why I could buy most of the LER stuff then mix it with planet x or something but if I get the TW I will have to get everything cause its a combiner.

Transforming the feet into the tail. There is a bunch of parts that swing out and around and everything needs to be aligned and tabbed perfectly.

I lucked out and got a set on amazon for about 20 shipped, but most of the US retailers have them for 23 or so before shipping. Importing them isn't really better because the box they come in is pretty huge.

Maketoys is great when they do their combiners. For most 3rd parties, they have no comprehension of the bigger picture. So the gestalt ends up looking like a bit of an awkwardly proportioned mess of parts. See Warbotron, Hercules. With MT I don't really get that.

Tamiya makes a nice spray lacquer.

If you spray them on spruce, your going to get marks when you cut it out of the gate. Your best bet is to cut them out of the gate, then tape them all to a peice of card board and spray them like that.

By tape them to card board, I mean you take a long piece of tape, connect both ends of the tape together so that you basically have a circle of tape (sticky side out). Now you take your tape circle and put it on the card board so that you have a strip of tape that you can stick the parts you want to be painted on.

I hope that makes since. I can put together a demo and take a picture if you want.

Honestly the scorpion mode feels more like a fan mode than a legit alt mode. Like, I can imagine someone at MMC being like, "Can we really make a figure that just turns into a chair?".

Its a secondary alt mode though, so you cant really complain.

It's me. Glad you like my photos :)

I like them both a lot. As far as 3rd party bots go, they are among my favorites. I like Commotus a little more than Spartan just because I'm a decepticon fan, but Spartan is arguable the better toy. He comes with more accessories, and more paint apps. Of course with a little blue paint, you can fill in Commotus's paint apps yourself.

They have good articulation and look nice, but they are a bit simple, and there are a few finishing touches that I feel could have been added (like flaps to cover up fist compartments, etc. They feel a little unpolished, or a little rushed.

I hope I'm not coming across too down on them, I really do like them, but I think you have to be a Dinoking fan. They're just not good enough a value proposition to draw in a random person otherwise.

If you like Liokaiser more, you might want to wait a little bit and see how TFC's version turns out. It looks like it will be their best work. I'm going to get their Hellbat to have the character even if the full set ends up not being great.

Well, there's the various Devastators, pick your poison.

There's Ordin, the Abominus, who looks okay, but I think the Blot and Hun-Gurr are the real highlights.

Function X's Decepticons are all good, with Weirdwolf probably the best so far. Their Snapdragon and Apeface will be even better, whenever they actually get released.

Iron Factory's little Overlord looks pretty great for a legends-scale dude.

The recently released MMC Turmoil looks great and the Impactor version of the mold has gotten great reviews.

I do have WST Sixshot, VERY fun to fiddle with. perfect replica and good diecast content. Only bad thing about it is that you can't peg the guns on the roof in car mode, at least on my copy

Just FYI he is kind of a shitty toy. Decent to display in robot mode but damn near falls apart if you try to play with him and tank mode sucks.

Eh I wasn't going to buy any Megatron for their alt mode to be honest. That he is fragile in robot mode for play is disappointing but I can live with it. I've never had a Megs in my entire life and he's the best choice for me imo, compared to paying about the same price for marked up CW Megatron or UW.

The Axelerators were one of the few G1 teams I completed as a kid so I'm really looking forward to these guys.

I would love if someone came out with new legs for Motormaster. Ones that are more accommodating for the PE set or just people who keep his legs upright in Menasor. They could have ratchets in the knees that bend both ways. I'm surprised more 3rd parties in general don't do more major upgrade kits to figures. Like new legs and arms, things like that.

Probably because it's always some Cybertronian Soundwave that ends up just being a retool of somebody else and is just a space tank or some other nondescript alt mode. Like, Soundwave is still cool but I think people are getting bummed out by him never feeling all that unique anymore. Every since the failed attempt at an updated cassette player Soundwave that was Sonicron, it seems to have discouraged anybody from trying to give use another Earth mode music player. The ones we're getting now just end up feeling too safe and almost like an afterthought.
