I tried to post about this a thread or so back, but got no replies. Considering this thread I guess now's a good time.

I'd like to build some Super Robots. Any suggestions on how to go about this? Smoother shapes, simple surfaces, and super powers.

I think it's more about play possibilities. 920 has a baseplate, a base, a rocket, a rover, and that tanker trailer. Fun for two or more. 75050 has a B-wing, and this is it. Many people I talk with also miss back-of-the-box alternative builds and feel that you can't really MOC nowadays (of course they are not AFOLs and know shit).

As for perceived raise of price? You first-worlders know nothing. Pic related was my first set ever. It cost my parents 3 of their combined monthly salaries. The fact that they decided to do it boggles my mind; such was the life in commietimes, though.

Dear Lego

My wife's autistic son was upset and confused by set 4644564. The box clearly shows a Agents of Capeshit car and a plane, but there were no instructions for the plane. Please send the missing instructions etc..

Basic set 720, however, did not have a website address and the idea that you could just write to a Danish toy company and get a reply was as outlandish as going to the moon or supersonic passenger airlines.

Yes, says me, and almost everyone who's even semi-competent at building. Regardless of what you think, at the end of the day, it's a children's toy. There's nothing 'complex' about it. Once you've used the system enough to memorize pieces and their measurements it all becomes second nature.

It obviously won't happen overnight. I still look back at the shit I made two years ago and cringe from embarrassment. But sitting around being envious of other peoples work isn't going to help you in the slightest. Don't listen to those other guys. Get yourself a handful of minifigs that you feel nostalgic about. Then check the store for other neat parts. Maybe a handful of cool colored bricks. You might find some obscure printed tile or a great deal on train doors. Just find something interesting then start building around that. Just don't forget your spending limit!

I do not agree. Each Mixel was unique and even if you haven't heard of their bios or series you can easily asume their characters. The builds were filled with personalities and Maxes showed and learned kids the cool way to use given pieces to create something else.

The double steering wheels don't really bother me since there are aircraft that have two sets of controls in the cockpit. Finally, you could dig through your parts for some transparent elements, hoses and radar dishes to really emphasise the sci-fi nature of the hovercar (and to replace the wheels).

Sometimes I when I'm bored I come here to lurk, every time I do it wants me to get back into lego as an adult. Still got some old sets mainly res-q and city stuff which I'm thinking about selling to fund for new lego or other stuff.
I hate the new sets the themes suck or are shitty sets. I don't think I could build mocs and I'd like to do more with them either for tabletop or like what brick quest does

Should I get back into lego or quit while im ahead

Same here. I lucked into a trade that netted me lots of older CMFs, and I've been keeping up with the releases at retail since then. SwapFig, Brick Link and Amazon have all filled gaps in the collection. I'm not a completionist, so going without past figures I don't care about isn't an issue.

Over 200 BL orders here, never got scammed, fakes or rocks. I always read about pieces with bad (smoke) smell, but never got them myself. And several stores actually inform in their terms that all pieces come from a pet-free and smoke-free environment, so you can avoid that problem too.

Ninjago is very clever with their writing. When one of the main characters seems to be losing their purpose, they're given their own season. It's nice.

They're not really comparable. The 2012 version is UCS, the 2015 version is "regular." The UCS can carry all 4 minifigs in the cockpit but has no interior beyond that.

I think the quality (of material and of the mold) would suck compared to LEGO.

It's not about being official, it's about constraining yourself.

If I were to embrace all the heresy, and start, for example, cutting and gluing pieces, it wouldn't be any different from classic model-building. Being constrained by available bricks and methods of connecting them means I have to think more about smart ways to overcome those constraints. That's why I don't like techniques that enable you to shape basically anything you want, it's not LEGO-building, it's scuplting.

I was thinking of buying some, since I want some bluecoats. I have the Imperial Flagship and I've been thinking of getting either this set or just bricklinking a boat and some bluecoat soldiers.

You mean 10210 Imperial Flagship? 70413 Brick Bounty pirate ship is a clone of 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty, which is a clone of 6285/10040 Black Sea's Barracuda. It should go well with it, although it would be nice if the 2015 Bluecoats had a ship too. I like the 1989-1991 Bluecoats better though.

So /lg/, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their input or advice, or even just thoughts on what I've been working on, before I finish closing up the walls.

It's meant to be a cyberpunk dive bar/club type place. I've yet to decide on a name, so I don't have a sign made for the door or anything.

I'll fully admit, I'm not a very good builder. This is my first attempt at designing a proper building. The inside decor is pretty much non-existent, and I don't have a whole lot of ideas on how I'm gonna texture the outside.

I'd make the bar wider, perhaps change its orientation. Is this going to be two-story structure? If so some inner balconies for VIPs, and perhaps cages with dancers, would be nice. Also you definitely need to decorate those inner walls, a big neon sign or something like that.

As for the outside, perhaps some kind of graffiti mosaic? Don't overdo the brick pattern, it looks kinda repetitive on bigger areas.

Be sure to place a burly bouncer in the front of the door!

Id honestly recomend using a easier size if making this into a actual real modular build! Using 2/3s of a 32x32 should be fine for you its more than enough space!
I havnt any interior of my my BARcade on my phone atm but i can take pics of my stage later if you want!
Pirate rigging is a big recomendation for your overstage lighting!

To a degree, but the club was going to be relegated to the lower level.

First I want to design a roof section that has a doorway lining up with the stairway at the side, connected to the club with as few studs as possibly, modular style. Once that's done, I intended to try and make a space with a hallway and a small apartment or two, with its own set of stairs that would also line up with the roof. Once I'd nailed that, I'd be able to modify the rooms themselves, and make sets of apartments that I could slot in between the club and the roof, so I could keep adding to it, without it ever being "incomplete" as such.

Yeah, for sure. I'm just not quite sure what to have a sign saying/advertising/whatever, or how to make it. Doesn't help that my local places are incredibly dour, so that doesn't help.

Also just posting some patches that were at the Boy Scout National Jamboree a few years ago, troops always get cool licensing deals (I think in a troop in Texas they have a deal with Microsoft to use Halo for patches).

Thanks a bunch, Anon! You've given me a lot to consider. You've got a lot packed in. My main issue is that I want the bar to be on the same floor as my stage, and I want the club itself to be only one floor, but I guess since I don't have to worry about an arcade, it's not going to be a huge issue to scale it down. Having apartments above it might be a problem, but I guess I'll tackle that when I come to it.

I think I need a stronger image of theme in my mind, if I want to nail decor. Shame all my locals are boring as hell, so no chance of inspiration there. Might also scrap the fancy corner doors. They use an awful lot of space.

Either way, thank you so much Anon, and thank you to the others who've posted. If any other Anons wanna jump in too, I'd be more than grateful. Might re-post in the new thread since we're nearing the limit, but please don't think I've disregarded anything!

I have all my housing far from my Nightclub because of Logic/Autism!
Corner Builds only use 4/9 of a baseplate. Mine uses 2/3s which is bigger than even the town hall uses!.
Figure out what space to alocate for your actual building first. I usually divide a 32x32 into 9 when it comes to building , I used to be able to fit the stage downstairs with the bar so its just a corner building gives you less space than I had! A lot of small music venues Ive been to have had the bar downstairs and then the actual stage on the next floor so thats kinda where I got the idea from. Keep us updated!

Pretty sure it is, Lego considers the legs/torso single pieces. And swapping out arms risks cracking the torso so personally I only do it sometimes.
