Built Kylo a tryhard edgespeeder. It's loosely based on a Halo Brute Chopper, mostly in it's swivelling front half. The trans-red saw blades are somewhat rare, they were only available in a few sets in 2002.

I was able to find one of these old X-Wing console pieces. I think it gives it an old-school lego feel as well as a bit of a Tron feel. I wanted to put in handlebars, but felt that would have made it too thick.

i really fucking hope JW2 klocki will have an exact this triceratops. Or similar to this.

The preparatory work (designing the campaign, building the set, and creating supplementary documents) is comparable to writing a one-shot DnD scenario. It took a week or so, a few hours a day. When Funtron wraps up, I'd be happy to share the design documents from that process.

Most of the work in running the game is ad-libbing the results of often unexpected player actions and then writing the text for the posts. The writing takes the longest, as with the novel excerpts and the like. There's no post-processing in Funtron except for that one flashback sequence, but if you're aiming for a less shoddy presentation style, that would take more time. Maybe LQ can answer this better, but if you wanted better post processing can't you use a standard set of settings? Probably with the RAW editor in photoshop.

I kind of want to run one with more emphasis on building and character customization during the quest. Might be too much work to do while the thread is up, though.

For Funtron, I drew from co-op games like Say Goodbye to the Villains or Betrayal at House on the Hill, which is why I chose to use a selection of premade characters instead of a character creation system. For your building/customization, were you thinking of a party of customizable characters shared by the posters, or something else? I don't think it'd be prohibitively difficult to include those sorts of elements, though it would entail extra work compared to something like Funtron's WYSIWYG equipment.

Well, considering Rogue One was shit, but we got like 15 sets out of it, seems like its par for the course. Movie could be a total bomb, but because of the STAR WARS moniker, well get a full line out of it.

Meanwhile Doc Strange and Antman get one set each. Guardians 1 got treated a bit better though, wonder what that was about.

Although, as I said, I do wonder why Guardians 1 got 3 sets while Antman and Doc got only one? I know Antman was a gamble, but Strange had Bend a Dick in it, instant female audience. Instant Hobbit audience. Antman one set and Strange and Guardians both 2 sets would have made more sense.

This is what my Legoverse looks like from outside time and space. I shoot really high skies, wide vistas, and other angles that make using a real lightbox impractical, so I turned my room into one. Those two pole lights each have three bulbs on them, regular CFL bulbs on the top two spots and UV blacklight CFL bulbs on the bottom ones. I got the lights at Walmart for $20 each. If you can't get your hands on stand-up lights, the main thing to making your pictures look good is understanding bounce lighting.

Here's the way the lights are positioned when I'm shooting something. Those paper circles attached to the lights are homemade baffles. They block the light from shining through from the lampshades, and are extremely important since I couldn't find more appropriate lights that already had opaque black shades. The point is, you need to make sure that you can control the direction that light is being emitted from, as I will elaborate on in the next post.

In this picture, the red arrows are the hard, direct light that's going directly out of the lightbulbs. Thanks to the positions of the lights and the baffles, most of the direct light is aimed away from the table. It hits the walls, the ceiling, and all the other crap in the room and turns into a softer, more ambient light, represented here by all the yellow dicks aimed down at the table.

In this comparison you can see the difference between aiming a light source directly at the set (top) or using bounce light (bottom). With a direct light source, you get a lot more reflections off the surface of the pieces, and it looks more like a toy. Creating ambient light makes it seem more "real" and immersive.

The last time I posted this, someone pointed out that the bounce lighting was causing a yellow tint because the walls of my Lego room are not white. That was fixed in Photoshop afterwards with a simple click of the Auto Color tool.

This is especially noticeable on minifigs, when a direct light can cause vertical bands of white light across the face that blots out the printing.

However, direct light can be used when you want to simulate the sun at a very low angle, as long as you have enough bounce light coming in from elsewhere.

Thanks! I thought of using those parts too but I didn't like the gray breaking up the yellow. I could always reverse the entire assembly that the arms connect to but then I'd have to lose the little vents on the back. And the bits on the shoulders were supposed to be some sort of cannons but I mainly threw them on to balance out the small shoulders, I think they look silly in any other position.

My buddy said that cobi and everything that is compatible with LEGO is by default clones, while I said that they're both plastic building blocks since LEGO doesn't own the patent on the blocks themselves but then he said that LEGO owns the dimensions, and anyone that is using the same is a clone.

Alternatively (or if you're posting renders, like me), you could add the glow yourself.
I start by covering over the portions of the image that I want to glow with the corresponding color (using Swooshable's color chart) on two different layers.

You can probably mess with the values, these are just the ones I've been using so far.

Both the Glow and Gaussian Blur effects should come with Paint.NET by default.

building digitally is a good way to build things when you don't have the pieces and then you can easily order the pieces when you're happy with it

I wouldn't really expect lego to add that kind of strenghtening to its new molds though, considering how they cut corners everywhere nowadays.

Hopefully it's a new mold rather than some obscure utensil though, 1x1 with horizontal bar woluld be a really useful piece.

Speaking as a Lego trainfag. Lego trains are far cheaper than model trains. You can get far more engines and rolling stock for your money. In that regard, it's much better.

HOWEVER

The scenery for model trains is much cheaper than buying the parts necessary to build scenery for your Lego train layout. So if you want more around your trains than just basic track, I'm not sure if it's any more or less cost effective.
Lego trains also take up a shitton more space too.

Then again, you can build whatever the fuck you want; you're not limited to whatever locos/rolling stock a model manufacturer brings out. This in my mind is the huge advantage to using Lego specifically for trains. You can make the most obscure prototype engine you know of; you can modify an existing loco to look cooler; you can make ghost trains or pirate trains or anything you like.

Lego really lacks some train sets, especially small ones, like just one car or engine size, or a supplemntary set with wheels, couplings, etc. But I guess they won't sell, because you still need a big set or at least some rails, and that will be expensive.

The Lego Store in the MoA sells track packs by themselves, which is nice. If I ever get around to making my own train I would probably have to Bricklink the parts for the undercarriage but at least track sections are still available for retail.

Who knows, maybe next summer I'll find the Lone Ranger train at a sale. That one's my favorite.

FYI it can be worth your while to buy train sets if you only want the engine, or a piece of rolling stock, and then sell the rest of it individually. You won't make money but you'll certainly reduce your overall spend.

For $300 you get almost 5000 pieces. This is one of the largest sets Lego has ever produced (third-largest, I think) at one of the lowest price-per-piece ratios ever. You can probably make back at least $75 selling the minifigs.

The only thing holding me back from getting one is all the stickers.

Don't do this.

But basically, if stuff is already on clearance, it most likely means the store is planning on get rid of it, so they'll never have to see those sets again. They COULD get minor restock down the line since Lowrider is pretty new set.

Sometimes something unexpected happens, though. One store chain here dug up some 2015 Bonkle earlier this summer.

Speaking of CMF, I hope I'm not the only one who considers this to be one of the strongest waves period? Ninjas and Garmadon and shark dudes are cool, sure, but I fucking adore all those civilians. Every single one has some useful pieces. I'm almost tempted to buy whole lot of dupes just for the parts.

They could have dumped the L-loyd rehashes and Wu and given us more civilians if I'm being honest. Still, there are some killer figures, and even the less than stellar figures all have a usable piece or two, like you said. Might run out and see if I can find some more today.

It goes with the whole theme of the movie, though, and is similar to the CMF run from the original Lego Movie. The movie is depicting a larger, more alive Ninjago City than the series has seen previously. And AFAIK all the pieces are brand new prints, which people will love.
