I don't mind a lack of detail so much as I mind when things look doughy.

It's hard to explain. MP36, MP39, Howling Meteor (that 3P starscream) all look really doughy to me. MP Inferno has pretty much the same amount of plain surfaces and missing vehicle details as them, but it doesn't bother me because he doesn't look doughy.

Yeah and the shell parts have to be made of clear plastic with the cheapest grade paint this baby toy company can afford covering them, because making the clear parts separate requires more IQ points than a Hasbro employee has.

Eh, it's far better than CW because the figures actually have proper paintjobs this time around, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's actually "great" or even on the same level of robot and vehicle aesthetics of TR. Computron is possibly the only one combiner I would actually display though, gotta give them that.

Because objective stuff is universal. Nobody wants a toy that has loose, floppy joints. That's objective. Everybody want's a good color scheme and paintwork that makes the figure feel alive. That's objective.

Now, some people can look at CW and say "Well, I can see that they limited themselves on the engineering. It's clear that meeting the objective of a linewide combiner gimmick meant certain compromises had to be made." The subjective question is, are the trade offs for those compromises in playability, nostalgia, fun factor, or novelty worth it for you as a collector.

Obviously not everyone feels the same.

It's a decent Scout class toy. You could get the Hasbro version for like 10 bucks or less though. Im not sure why you'd get it to stand in for POTP grimlock when it's a different character from a different series in a different size class with a different design aesthetic.

Brainstorm came in the mail yesterday and he looks great. The only other TR i have is Broadside and Brainstorm looks a whole lot better. Especially the head. Transformation is pretty simple but it's fun and i keep flipping between modes. I think I'm gonna get Triggerhappy due to all the praise he's gotten and then be done with TR.

Playing with the CW Protectobots, I'm really loving Rook, First Aid, and Streetwise. Street's like a more solid version of TR Getaway/Chromedome, and I love First Aid's face and vehicle design. Also a battle axe is a cool weapon for a medic. He's one of the only one of the Defensor group whose hand-foot-weapon actually looks like it goes with his vehicle mode properly. And Rook's vehicle mode is great, it just looks so solid and tough, all these intricate little lines on it. Makes it worth having such a bulky backpack and those weird cannon-fists.

Hot Spot looks cool but his legs really make it hard for me to love him. Those ratchet joints are awkward as hell. Love his face and love the tampograph details.

Blades is a solid helicopter but having to fold the blades up behind him in robot mode is a little awkward, and the nose of the copter doesn't really like to hold together - it sticks together alright but you can tell it strains a bit. Still a cool dude.

Depends. I have had a few of mine start sliding around on the surface this summer. If you ever experience incredibly humid weather, it definitely will loosen up the adhesive, and it seems to never want to go back.

I just had a look. Blades' arms will interfere with Firefly's transformation, the part where they collapse into the sides. The mushroom pegs and the forearm ratchet swivel are of different sizes too so you can't simply swap them out, so I guess you need a sacrificial Firefly, oh well.

We just had Prime and Bayfilms is going on right now.

Beast Wars was a while ago so it makes sense to redo them with modern toys but the other lines need some time so the new toys are significant improvements. Plus the kids who grew up with those will be nostalgic for new versions and they'll sell better.

It was already pointed out that the boxart for this set was really misleading since the Prime shown is based on the original G2 Prime, not the TR toy, while Nautica only seems to have her toys shoulders, everything else is different.

Because it has none of Armada Megs' cool design traits beyond the antlers and minicon posts. No underarm turret, no claw hand, no dagger, no shoulder-mounted tread pillars, no minicon. Armada Megatron should've been the primary tooling since no one would've really cared about G1 Megs' "inaccuracies" as long as the turret was removable and re-mountable onto the arm. Instead we got an okay G1 Megatron that doesn't really scale with Classics OR appeal to the IDW crowd, and a non-update Armada Megatron throwback that doesn't really work on any level.

I actually like the fact it's a meld of Armada Megatron and G1 Megatron, but I understand your point now. Still, it is nice they even borrowed from the design at all.

On its own terms, I think the Armada retool looks cool.
