He also needs wheels for the ground wehicle mode, and the new one is missing the ones on the legs at the very least. No moving panels with wheels underside here, just boxes.

They chose the most color compatible option.
Any proper gorilla mode would require major color alterations to fit into optimal mode

Believe it or not, some people form emotional attachments to characters they like. Changing a fundamental aspect of that character can be divisive.

It just seems like a cop out...UNLESS idw recons this and says that surfboard was his cybertronian alt mode but I'm fairly certain he was depicted as a beast former from the get go.

I see it as an easy fix with just those 2 modifications, I can see 3p/modders making something up because I see hasbro saying "out of budget" as the excuse

Judging how the body transforms, i think you can get a largely gorilla ish transformation from the organic primal, you'll just need something to cover his head.
I'm a little surprised they didn't have a head flip out from under the cockpit, then swivel the whole backpack
Expect 3p to go this route

Those are all fair criticisms, but

The organic Primal is a gimmick. He's literally just an Optimal Optimus with a gimmick mode where an Organick Prime in bot mode can pop out his back. Literally they could have just not have included the extra mode and kept everything the same and there would be no complaints.

Wow this is it, this is what is making me finally drop the line, I'm going full third party now. They actually care about the fans and the toys designs. No hollow parts, superior materials and articulation, just the whole package. POTP just looks like knockoffs compared to them. Not even Takara's superior paint jobs and accessories can save this line. hasbro you ruined it, you took your golden goose and just shat all over it with gaudy G1 garbage that nobody wanted. You didn;t even have to release an Optimus primal with realistic fure just one that looked like the in-show model and transformed just like the original figure.

Classics Voyager Prime is still the best CHUG Prime that I'm aware of. His 2 main flaws are the arm kibble and the fact that he's kind of short, although with toys getting smaller, it isn't as pronounced as it used to be.

Let's look at some of the alternatives/options.
1) Classics DX - Super G1 in robot mode, kinda trashy in truck mode. Somewhat gimped by gimmick.
2) Energon Prime - Fat with scrawny limbs. Nice Megazord mode though.
3) Cybertron Prime - Awesome, but too big for CHUG.
4) First Strike - Actually pretty good except for the HUGE backpack. As much as I hate the movie designs, I like him. But he doesn't fit CHUG aesthetically.
5) Battle Blades - Too Bayformer but otherwise, really good.
6) DotM - Ahahahaha... no. He looks like a Revoltech reject.
7) Evasion Mode - Great Vehicle. Amazing that they could get a movie style robot into said vehicle, but again, too Bayformer for the role of CHUG Voyager Prime.
8) TLK - Looks like a movie Prime, but not an Optimus Prime.
9) WfC - Too small, but otherwise super cool.
10) FoC - Even smaller. I have him as the oversized leader of my Legends/Cyberverse.
11) Prime (FE) - Totally awesome. I love this guy. Just not as CHUG Supreme Commander of All My Autobots though.
12) Beast Hunter - Love him, but not CHUGgy enough.
13) RiD - Too small. Although I'm tempted to grab a cheapo oversized knock off of him.
14) PotP - Too big. But I'm still gonna get him when he comes out. I think he he looks really good.

The thing is, a lot of CHUG are deluxes and Voyagers. Leaders don't really fit as Prime isn't supposed to be the biggest of the bunch. TT/CW Ultra Magnus and Jetfire fit because they're supposed to be oversized.

Classics Voyager pretty much wins by default. He's not perfect, but still excellent. His articulation is very good, despite what some people say.

Yeah, I'm looking for a replacement for him. But at the moment, he's still the best for that very specific role as CHUG supreme commander.

If Hasbro had their shit together, they would have scrapped Titans Return PMOP and tried to find some middle ground between the two here. The Powermaster gimmick would actually have worked in POTP since they could include a little Hi-Q titanmaster matrix dude that plugged into Prime's grill, and most importantly, a truck cab that turned into a robot that could also fit into the trailerbot. I'd rather have one decent Leader-class Optimus Primes with the span of a few years than two mediocre ones a year apart.

Big difference between the neutered (smoke stacks only iirc) hasbro mp01 and takara versions.

I got lucky and got a near mint mp01 final production version with the sound stage for $150aud but its usually $200aud+.

The versions with the trailer go for much more, that said this is the first time I've seen one listed as "new" and that should only be half that fucking price

My guess is they want to make this 4th category as a permanent thing since it worked so well with the head-erm "titan masters" and thought using pretenders would work.

Consider this:What would be a "good" way of honoring what was empty shells that fit over what would have been legends size class figures?

We had discussions here before, could have voyager sized shells with legends sized figures but then its just a crappy shell, could merge it with the robot but then the shell and inner robot concepts are gone much like rotf and rid bludgeon, how would a triple changer who goes from shell mode to robot mode to vehicle mode work?

At least we are able to recognize them, best part is they're merged with prime sparks so primes from comics and so forth are getting a mention.

Not that it matters with current budgets, labor and material cost, wages and so forth.

The only kicker is John Warden sucks as a speaker (what he said about g2 bruticus still pisses me off) and he might be chasing incentives from hasbro higher ups ie "if you save $400 budget we'll give you a bonus!".

You're not alone. Imo CW, TR and POTP are what the main lines *should* be - interesting and fun takes on not just G1 but all of the Transformers lore, which do innovative things with old gimmicks. Slavish G1 should be reserved for MP's, which it is and all of you fucks complaining should just switch to collecting those. Being able to link up two Titans and 6+ leaders into a colossal mega-city populated by tons of headmasters would have made my kid-self go bananas.

The only downsides are the low budget hollow plastic and stickers, but you take the good with the bad. Regardless, anyone who looks at pic related and doesn't think it looks fun as fuck is dead inside.

Again, I think the busy-ness of the ginrai head matches the rest of the figure pretty well while still looking more like Optimus than the original movie head. Also, no additional cost was spent because the whole thing is a KO and cost like $15 for the Prime and the add on set.

The position makes me think of 2 uses, could just be a chest cannon, the other is as we mentioned a tm/pm connector, but the "face" of the figure would be facing upwards/downwards and not forward with the figure which seems silly.

Sure we'd know its there but instead of seeing the spark being them proudly/krok's head wondering wtf its doing there we'd just see the top of the figure sticking out.

Has to be something we're missing, or I'm missing likely

Retail for toys is weird, some places literally don't understand that shipments come in different waves. So they heavily order wave 1 and omly when they run out do they reorder, without caring wtf is inside. More wave 1s, wave 7... it's all the same to them.

So the fully decked out Abominus will be shown tonight, his chesplate and head are 100% g1 accurate. You can see why Hungrr's beast mode looks so spindly because he doesa defensor by pulling out the whole chest 180 degrees around the figure. But the end result is a bulky looking torso. It's a very complex transformation probably the most complex torso yet.

What sucks it that toys like Sky Shadow were almost perfect, but they have to use stickers for like four important details, so it's kind of trash. You can't really just remove the wing stripes.

All in the name of saving fifty cents per toy or something, but they have the budget to produce and extensively remold toys multiple times that barely even hit shelves.

This is what I don't get. You cannot find a single surface on any recent figure that hasn't been hollowed out or recessed in some way. You can literally see them trying to squeeze out the minimum plastic possible and stopping right on the edge of the toy crumbling apart. Would it really cost that much more to have guns that aren't hollow on one side, or robot backs that didn't look like wafer checkerboard?

It's infuriating since the designs are fantastic otherwise. I'd actually be in favor of more stickers if it meant more plastic used per figure.

I'm really surprised that no third party has come out with their own line of hollow limb fillers - they could probably make a killing.

Really hating that combiners are being forced into everything again, I'd be pleased to not have figures having to be limbs when they could just be a toy that transforms.

There's people on Shapeways who make them for certain figures but they're few and far between since you have to trial and error the shape and size for that kind of thing.
