Reprolabels has gone down the shitter.

Their earlier classics labels where they actually added realistic detail to alt modes was good. Now it's just tacky looking shit that tries too hard to copy the G1 stickers.

Is anyone else slowly loosing the capacity to enjoy modern Transformers figures? I was rearranging the display on some of my ROTF / TF 2010 stuff and god, what a shame to see how poorly our standards for quality have fallen since then. Just this year alone I've probably bought twice as many old G1 and Beast Wars figures over actual brand new retail stuff.

I sort of feel like I'm reaching the 'end' of my collection, most of the big names are accounted for with figures I'm happy with, so my drive to get 'all the important ones' has died down considerably. Now the only thing that sparks my interest is the z-listers getting toys. CHUG Landfill fucking when. A G2 re-do for a year would be nice too, it'd give them a chance to make an articulated Spychanger mold that could be endlessly repainted into all the RiD guys over time.

I believe it's disillusionment, firstly because that's what I feel and second because it somewhat fits the pattern in which the line has progressed.
We've been shown these amazing updates for old gimmicks that seemed impossible being half-assed after a period of gradual dwindling in engineering and care for detail after a kind of golden age that gave us really ambitious toys on a lower price point; I assume that feel must be far worse for people who could actually find the things easily at a price close to their retail MISB to compare and monitor like in Burgerland.

Like, Combiner Wars did scramble city combiners in the best possible way I could have imagined by using a standarized combiner connector that was neatly accomodated into the torso but then half-assed it by not giving them good modern articulation, leaving exposed gaps, wonky proportions, and making like only 2 original molds for the entire line. Simple transformations are not an issue for G1 combiners, repetitive transformations copied across everyone are.
Then it came Titans Returns, and I honestly can't imagine better updates for the Autobot and Decepticon headmasters except that they used slanted feet instead of using one or two more pieces to give them a proper ankle pivot; then they did everything in their power to drag the line throw the mud, shit like ignoring characters that were headmasters that fans wanted and making new figures fans also wanted but weren't originally headmasters or keeping the CW trend of leaving gaps everywhere.

When you look at older figures you can forgive their faults as action figures and see their charm as toys in the case of G1; admire the huge jumps in technology, experimentation, and care in craftsmanship in the case of Beast Wars; and see the ambition, dedication, and quality in lines like the first movie/ROTF, RTS, Classics, Cybertron, Generations; all which came from a time when modern combiners were thought impossibly complex to accomplish at retail.

Now, maybe I am not counting the people that unironically like memes like car interiors, diecast, and rubber tires; because, while mildly impresssive, they are all detrimental to a toy's "shelf life"; but all of those lines had good plastic, ankles and wrists whenever they could be acommodated, good amounts of paint, solid figures with higher parts count, and complex transformations.

2009-2010 was almost objectively the peak of Transformers figures, although 2006-2007 was certainly a strong road to it. Things only started to falter from 2011 on, although Generations was still pretty strong up until 2014.

Then CW happened and it all went down the shitter.

Wait, the FoC toys are supposed to be hated? I don't get it, IMHO there were both good and bad ones amongst those. Sure, Bruticus was an absolute disaster in almost every single regard and the Autobot cars were pretty bland, but that line also gave us the deluxe Seekers, a mostly decent Prime mold (not as good as the WfC but still a solid design nonetheless, especially the Magnus version), possibly one of the best beast transformers made at the time in the form of Kickback, and literally the only thing wrong about that year's Shockwave is the fact that he was a Deluxe instead of a Voyager.

Plus, these were only a minority of figures inside a far wider line, it's not like they literally replaced everything else in their year. You know, like CW did.

They are the lowest quality toys in the entire 11 years of CHUG. That FOC Optimus Prime toy was a tiny cheap piece of shit that made the 2010 WFC one look like a Masterpiece toy in comparison. Shockwave has hollowed out skinny legs. A tab on my Jazz broke just by trying to transform him normally. The bottom of Grimlock's dino mode is COMPLETELY hollow and looks absolutely terrible if you look at it from the wrong angle.

That line was a fucking mess and it's easily the lowest point of TF toys since the Unicron trilogy.

Most of those are worst the toyline has got in quality, sure there were some gems, but most of those were pretty shitty.

Also the better toys were on later waves that just a few retailers got, most got stuck with combaticons on their shelves for months.

How funny, the 5mm post of my Battle Core Optimus Prime rifle also broke when I tried attaching it to other figures. It's almost like shitty QC isn't specific to FoC or else.

Now you're just full of nipples in here, since when was the Unicron a low point in terms of toys? Maybe in terms of cartoons, sure, but those were basically the birth of modern TF engineering. For their time, they were absolutely impressive.

I don't know where you picked up this idea that combiner teams had members with complex transformations.
The most complex protectobot had at most a slightly more adventurous yet primitive version of the autobot car transformation scheme, the aerialbots' altmodes are literally tacked on, the combaticons and stunticons are a little more demanding but every 3P version of them is a headache to do anything with so I'd rather have them be functional than being nice to look at on a shelf.

The 2007 movie figures were also a major step-up but you wouldn't get to the level of engineering in them if it wasn't for all the progressive developments in Armada, Energon and Cybertron. There's a reason as to why so many figures at the end of the latter were able to fit in as repaints inside the movie toyline, because in terms of engineering they were already incredibly solid for their time.

Inspired by the milf arcee art in the last thread, I tried it again
This time I went with a much simpler transformation.
It's basically a hybrid between a backwards Vehicon and Combiner Wars First Aid.
I have some 3d printing credit, so I just need to decide which I want as the base and then print out some parts for the custom.
I can't shake the feeling that I'm missing an obvious base that transforms like this. Something from the movie line perhaps? Anyone have any ideas?

Aren't the lowest modern TF lines arguably the movies? I mean, we all talk about how great RotF was (ignoring Devastator and Leader Megatron). But nobody talks about the ones that came after. The Wreckers was a bomb in the third one (I genuinely can't remember what it was called). AoE and TLK don't really have any notable releases. Hell, does TLK have even one notable release? I mean, I'm hyped for HNitro Zeus and Voyager Scorn, and I guess the Megatrons? But they seem more "middle of the road" or "good but not line defining".

Honestly, about the best thing to come out of Armada was probably Tidal Wave, who despite the lack of back bending knees, was and still is, awesome.

Bendy's okay but kinda overhyped.

Other than those two, did Armada have anything good?

Energon had lame-o Autobots who were gimped by the Multiforce gimmick. But the other figures were generally quite good.

Applying pressure for about 5 mins while covering the entire back of the face and perhaps the back of the TM should make for strong contact, otherwise a replacement screw.

Ok, I could suggest plastic melting glue but that might have the same effect, what about applying the glue into the screw holes so it thickens them up, not sure if applying and then inserting the screw once its dried or inserting the screw while its still wet is the best way to do it but if its in both screw hole points it might be a starting point.

I've been working on this custom from months, hardest part was to give him double jointed reverse knees for scorpion mode, but the Metro/Fort shins are too long and a decent scorpion mode would require the torso to extend, still thinking if it is worth it or not, he would be most of the time in botmode anyway so I coul use the legs as a big bat tail and save a lot of time.

Maybe 5 years ago when Legends class were super-simple and usually shit, and Leader class was imepressive, semi-MP level of complexity, but over the past few years, they've largely been homogenized to the point when literally the only difference is the size.

I forgot to mention something since this was probably just super shitty luck, but I got this mold 3 times, and all 3 times it had horrible issues:

-First one's head just broke in half right out of the box
-Second was missing a foot
-Third had a visor that was cut bad, so it had a gap right in the face, and I kept it because I was tired of returning him.

I got MP Star Saber a few days ago, and while I'm still kind of taking him in I just gotta say holy shit V-Star has a ridiculous quantity of points of articulation.

For a fat fuck this fat I kind of expected him to really only be designed for specific poses if you know what I mean (Like MP Ultra Magnus), but no he's got it all: A hinge in his shoulder to bring his arm forward,enough shoulder joints to bring his arm almost 90 degrees out (unlike Ultra Magnus), a double jointed elbow, forearm swivel.

The torso articulation is what gets me though, on top of having a goddamn ab crunch this guy has a hinge in waist to let you bend his waist left and right. Like seriously what official TF ever has articulation like that?

It's not without issue, the ratchet joints don't really have enough positions and I find his hips a little restricted, but goddamn this guy is bendy as fuck from the waist up. And to think the new MP mold after Star Saber was fucking Tracks.

Artfire was nothing more than a god-damn cheaply made repaint, created by Takara along with Stepper (aka Ricochet) for the Jap only version of the Targetmaster line.

Hasbro made the main movie cast targetmasters for the Headmaster centric fourth wave of the series. Takara refused to reissue Hot Rod, Blurr, Kup, Scourge, and Cyclonus modified for Targetmasters but they had an extra Targetmaster mold (the one used for Cyclonus's Targetmaster) they had to use.

So they took Inferno and Jazz, created some god-awful repaints of them (Jazz in black/gold for Stepper, later renamed Ricochet for the US market and god-awful Red/White Inferno repaint for Artfire) and stuck the orphan Targetmaster mold with them and released it at the very end of the Headmaster toy line in Japan only.

Because they came out at the end of the Headmaster line, plus being Jap exclusive, caused them to become Holy Grails for TF collectors. Stepper eventually got re-issued and even a US release, but Artfire never did. Which is his only real claim to fame: a shitty ass half-assed repaint that is only notable because it is super super super fucking rare and hard to find.
