Literally every media outside the movie itself does the designs much tighter and cohesive because they can't render a billion parts flying around. I assume for people who don't actually check obsessively for news? Like, I used to check the various toy news sites once every few days, myself. But there was a long period of "nothing of interest to me" days, so now I rarely check. So the links when big news comes up is helpful for me.

It's seriously getting more and more tempting to just buy the original powermaster jets and mod them to have better articulation. I still see the KOs in some stores.
The new sculpts are nice, and I don't have any of the aerialbots because I was autistically oppossed to buying repeats of any molds, but these don't look good. Pretty much nothing from POTP looks good to me.

... fuck... I wish the classics toy was a little better. Mine has fucked up hips, so he can't stand. I like this toy, and I can see they physically put 250 dollars worth of stuff into the box, but I just can't bring myself to pay 250 dollars for any bot that's not made up up six huge voyager sized motherfuckers.

A stripped down, downscaled KO of this, KBB Dinobot let's say, something closer to deluxe size and without all the lights and sounds and accoutrements? I could drop 60 bucks on that and feel satisfied. Hell, I'd like it if someone had just fixed the issues with the classics mold and given that another release. Doesn't seem fair that our only choices for filling out our Beast shelves is original figures, extremely expensive masterpieces without American releases, or shitty Classics toys.

Its kinda like a reverse bay-verse transformation design, with those as a robot it looks like a mess, because all of the focus was on the vehicle mode, unlike *most* g1 transformers in the mp line which *tried* to reach a compromise.

MP beast wars works in reverse, priority all lies in robot mode, there is no chance unless shellforming is used that the beast mode would be a gappy panel heavy mess.

Personally they aren't the most horrible things I've seen but mine shall remain in robot mode exclusively

After seeing weijang's effort on their take on a large mp megatron it made me think, maybe ko makers don't want to fuck around with complex designs and would rather homage them.

If weijang has a go I see it being an outright shellformer with folding limbs giving us a fatter dinobot but at a fraction of the cost, sized differently, and far easier to transform, and so far ko mp36's have only added a back coverplate to cover the gap in its back and that requires parts forming.

Still, one can wait

Weijiang's avoiding the partsform unless it's their weapons. They could improve the existing MP Dinobot mold but they could just tweak it a tiny bit and sell it for 70% less than the original price. That latter part is already a selling point without the need for tweaks, and the wei jiang brand is leading the KO shit.

I need to add an addendum to the qc comment: everything is tight except the hand swivel. It's really loose. It won't slide out when you shake it, but it comes out too easily. Maybe this was intentional so Hasbro can say that's why Volcanicus has no weapon.

That head swivel isn't the only thing that's limited, as his knees don't even get a full 90 degrees. The hands get a nice deep curl though, but his head and leg limitations make any poses look like ass.

Their shoulders feel somewhat displaced and the lack of leg swivels really hurts their poseability, but as far as looks go, both the robot and vehicle modes are great modern redesigns of the Datsun bros. Absolute best kino mold in Universe, easily one of the greatest Deluxe CHUGs ever made and, as of now, still pretty much the best Hound around, at best lightly tied with the great looking but no so well aged Alternator / BT. I'd recommend you get the Henkei mold instead but, given how much those are appreciating nowadays, settling for the bogstandard Universe version is still going to land you on an awesome figure.

Can't say anything about Grappel because I don't own either him or the original Inferno, but there's alos a consensus of sorts that he's pretty good.

Are the new combiner hands in any ways better than the old HFGs(as hands)?

They look really awkward, the two thumbs thing is awful compared to the old swing-around thumb.

I know you can pop out one thumb but given the plastic quality of the recent years it's just not something I'm going to do. If you want to use the silly looking armor mode you'll have to put the extra thumb on again any way.

And the hand doesn't even have a 5mm hole??? Guess that explains how none of the new combiners have weapons.

The only new feature is the TM slot. Which is not as amusing as they think. Though Swoop can look silly with TM Swoop plugged onto the hand.

Actually, the hand armor does have 5mm holes on both thumbs. Otherwise I'd say the two molds are about equal in terms of function. I do think PotP thumb setup works better for swords to give a pointing motion. Plus I love the spiked knuckles.

So I'm examining Jazz, and I noticed something really unsettling. The entire car roof and hood is translucent plastic painted white. This can only end really fucking badly should a fall, mistransformation, or enough time happens to it.

Here's his arm articulation. It's like Generations Scourge's but even worse. Also his shoulder hinges aren't pinned in, so they pop off way too easily. You've really got to work his arms to get them looking good.

Let me put it another way. His design has a lot of straight edges, meaning parts bump into others too much, meaning natural looking poses are hard to get, his hips are a prime example, as only certain angles have enough clearance. His legs only really go forwards and sideways, but not too much diagonally. Not easily anyways.

Also the chest is molded into the combiner peg. It doesn't ruin the altmode, but it is pretty unsightly from the wrong angles. CW jet altmodes weren't too aerodynamic though, so I don't know what I expected.

I also want to emphasize that Triceratops is my favorite Dinosau and Slag has my favorite Dinobot personality, so this may have made me too demanding. Your turbomasters are probably going to come in an horribly overpriced boxset with a bunch of stickers on Thunderclash to cover up the chest windows from battle core optimus and another use of the Breakdown and Alpha Bravo molds with this guy being used twice for two different characters, but with zero remolding with both having the same head.
