Animated Optimus is pretty decent. He's got all the articulation you need and has the usual transformation. His thigh is below the knee, which undesirable but it's something. Pretty much what you see is what you get. It isn't bad but for me, I can't stand the nothing look of the altmode. Too little truck detailing.

The rest suck.
>No 5mm hands on any of them
>Bumblebee has no bicep or thigh swivels
>His weapon can crack the arm and doesn't fully fold into his arm
>Prowl has no thighs
>His proportions are too thin, making him look fragile in most poses
>Bulkhead's legs are useless for poses since they can't move forward much
>Backpack is always a bitch to balance
>Transformation is pretty lame and shellformery, but not in a ridiculously funny way

I wouldn't recommend any of them honestly. Look into getting some Prime First Edition toys instead.

Am I alone in thinking about skipping PotP? I got my fill of combiners, I enjoyed the gimmick of head masters but only needed a few. PotP really has nothing new and the only thing I wanted, Dinobots, are hindered by being combiners.

Not happening. They'll make their colors G1 TV accurate, and maybe toss in new weapons but that's all your getting. Don't expect new feet or legs.

Also, Scattershot only added a few new parts for, while Grimlock would require entirely new legs, and Hun-Gurr would need an entirely new figure to accommodate better beast legs (the current front legs can't be switched due to the transformation).

Picked up Slug, Swoop, and Dreadwind at my local Target. Not fond of the "prime armor", but all of them can store the hand on their forearm like a shield/giant hand or on their back. Except for Dreadwind who stores his on his ass. I guess this makes him an Assmaster.

Don't worry, anon. Dreadwind is a literally who to most people, so you'll find him and his brother for cheap if you're patient. Ignore the Dinobots for a while since Takara might give us something better, or a third party could make a weapons pack (basically, until we can asses our options).

He's Combiner Wars okay. The clear plastic over the gold is a nice touch, but would prefer if he was a bit bigger and came with a sword instead of a gun. I prefer Swoop of the wave 1 dinos.

The Replolabel set for the towers is for the initial release of the Hasbro version, the later release of the Hasbro and Takara has a modification to one of the tower.
Plus, I don't think it's worth it. Just use the stickers you like, and use seat guns to fill out the city mode.

His legs can move back and forth and the mouth opens, but only a tiny bit before you hit a transformation ratchet. That's about it. You can unhinge his head, which is meant for arm or leg mode, to give him more of a neck, but it doesn't have any articulation.

I'm interested in the leaders, but everything underneath is just flat lining for me. I'd love a dinobot combiner, but after Slag fumbled his articulation, Grimlock was shaped like a tubby dweeb with no weapons, and Hungrr is a twiggy retool that loses an iconic part of Abominus' design, I've pretty much lost all faith in the combiners.

Worse part is I refuse to buy stickered crap, so now I need to wait for Takara's version.

At first people were fine with the idea because of scale fun to be had however when we all saw how that Groove work everyone took issue.

Most were fine that a space shuttle was turn into a military plane (Hell Takara's didn't look like the G1 ship model) but there was complaint he was just a straight deco of Slugslinger and had a head that look nothing like the G1

It's worth it. It looks very nice all decked out. I don't recommend using all the stickers on the central ramp though.

The tower change isn't that bad. The stock stickers will still work and reprolabels has a set to cover the new tower.

I have a theory. All 5 Transformers movies were summer pictures. Can anyone remember how many TF movie toys were still on the pegs the following Christmas? I'm betting quite a bit, but maybe not this year. If we are starting to see Last Knight merch getting clearanced or closed out and Target is rushing to get PotP, non movie toys on the shelf, this might be a signal for Hasbro. The super complex ROTF toys created a huge backlash backed by retailers who wanted simple toys even babies could transform and over the course of three movies, they keep pushing it. And ironically, it's enabled by the G1 guys running the line, since one stepper shit costs pennies to make, meaning they can stiff the budget for the movie toys and funnel it into Generations/Prime War instead.

I cannot for the life of me understand why they didn't put the combiner ports in Grimlock's shoulders/dino hips and have the arms/dino legs fold down onto the sides of his chest. They could have put folding flaps to cover them while not used like Silverbolt and Onslaught/Hotspot. It would have resulted in a much better looking and more stable combined mode but as it is, there's no way those shoulders are gonna hold up since there doesn't even look to be anything for them to tab into, especially if Hasbro continues the trend of cheap flimsy plastics and garbage QC that plagued CW and TR. I just don't understand how anybody looks at this thing and thinks "yeah! that's awesome!" It looks like a hot fucking mess.

And as a side note, as we know this is going to apply to all combiners in this series, while I appreciate them adding ankle rockers to the feet this time, why are they so fucking shrimpy compared to the hands? And why the fuck did that add two thumbs to every hand piece? I get that each hand piece is supposed to be able to work as either a left or right hand but the hands from CW already did that by making the thumbs reversible. Why didn't they just use that same idea again? I've seen the reviews and it doesn't seem to matter what you do with the second thumb. It doesn't hide away very well.

The paint and QC are really good on mine, you'd never know it was a KO if it wasn't covered in extra paint
The heels on mine are solid, although the head panel on mine does like to move around too much
You can fix that by tightening the screw right behind his chest, but it's mostly just helpful for the car mode

The gimmick didn't cut into the design and engineering of the figures. Hasbro did. Shared base transformation engineering and the universal combiner port system was a good idea but Hasbro didn't bother to go any farther than that because they wanted to produce these things as cheaply as possible. There's more than enough room in most of these figures to add panels to cover up forearm gaps, fill out hollow legs, ad dedicated foot pieces, compress backpacks, etc, all without actually being affected by the combiner engineering. Hasbro just didn't bother because it would cost them more money to produce and cut into their profits. The combiner engineering by itself can be easily ignored.

What makes all of this even more disgusting is that Hasbro is doing all of this while still charging more and more every year for them. Even if you take into account inflation and the oil shortage (which has since died down significantly from when Hasbro first started upping costs because of it), the current lines are guaranteed much cheaper to produce than the 2010 figures, yet Hasbro is charging us nearly $10 MORE for them. It also blows my mind that nobody seems to notice this or have any complaints with it. Like, ok, I'm willing to admit that not every figure from Classics, Universe 2.0, and Generations was a winner but the vast majority of those figures had a lot more thought put into their engineering, much higher parts counts, and a lot less of this hollow, simplistic bullshit, better plastics, and better QC yet they cost significantly less.

The way businesses work now in the US is, if something is profitable, keep cutting everything to deliver the least amount possible, until you drive the customer base away. Then, you declare it "old hat and no one wants it", despite the fact the only thing that killed it was your own actions, and shelve it either for 10 years, or forever, depending on it's reboot potential.

Fun fact: the only Beast Wars toys that have the beast rear legs as robot legs and beast front legs as robot arms are:
- Optimus Primal (all monkey forms)
- TM2 Cheetor
- Panther (the McDonalds toy)

All other BW toys have the robot arms and/or legs come from somewhere else on the body, or shift from back to front. Out of all of BW, only the above five toys are "stand up beast, change head"

These are not impressive because we have seen what can be done with the designs. Iron Factory Dinobots are so much better that the only reason they didn't collapse POTP prospective sales is their size. Other lines have also made them huge, adding that as something to be expected from Dinobots.
Either way, POTP Dinobots look dinky and weak regardless of their size so that HAHA FUCK YOU factor of the Dinobots is lost, of course nobody is excited about having these as updates.

Turn the knees backwars using jazz feet as heels and the spoilers as toes and add a hinge to make the whole altmode shell a backpack and you have an okish Crasher, the car doesn't look like Braver or Laster either.

A combiner team of all new characters that share the same two colors is cancer on the eyes. Devastator barely passes it, and that's because lime and purple aren't as jarring as red and teal, plus the fact that Devastator's black forearms break up the color scheme.

Any proper scramble city combiner team needs at least three distinct primary colors to work cohesively and not look like a mess. Superion and Computron use red, white, and orange alongside other colors to detail themselves. Defensor is red, white, a bit of black, and a big blue chunk in the middle. Volcanicus is/will be red, grey, and gold. Predaking is orange, black, yellow, and splashes of red.

If one of the Victorion limbs was mostly black with hints of teal/red/both, and another limb (opposite car/helicopter to first) had black as a secondary color, then the team wouldn't look like such shit.

I like Ginrai pretty well. I definitely think he looks imposing. Although I actually have hasbro's Ginrai, Magnus Prime. I did have to tighten up his heel spurs, but now I have no qc issues with him.

Well, FH stuff so far has been pretty solid. Only problems I've heard across all their stuff was the Nemesis having a too tight mushroom peg for one arm, which apparently wasn't widespread, and one guy in the /3pg/ having a Repugnus with a faulty screw in one of the arms, which got replaced.
