I made a boxy beep beep. It is an AMC Javelin which is very much based off of the Penske Trans-Am version that raced in 1971 and was driven by the late Mark Donohue. What do you guys think of it?

Does anyone else have that one MOC they keep going back to every now and then and rework/add stuff to it? For me it's this train based off of a German BR-24. This is the oldest pic of it I have when I first put it together like 3-4 years ago but it's gone through a lot of changes over the years.

And here's it today. Improvements include

The only things I can think of adding to it right now are an improved front buffer and more details on the boiler.

I saw the set right after I started running Lego Quest and thought they would be cool, but I decided I didn't need to waste money on new Legos when I had most of my childhood ones already, so I passed it up. After they retired that set I started to regret it, so I've kept an eye out for a cheap one ever since. This was five bucks in a sealed bag, which is what it would cost new directly from Lego today.

Was the ninjago movie any good? I finally just watch lego batman on HBO, and it was pretty terrible even by children's movie standards. It was neat to watch and see some of the sets/figs though.

I love this new(ish) shade of blue.

Got some of these Duplo brick wall panels in my order yesterday. I didn't realize that the backs were cutouts, which is pretty neat and will be helpful making wall detail more than just a flat surface.

This is my new camera that I've been using since August. It's pretty good. It's not quite as good as my old model for altering the perceived distance between foreground and background, but the depth of focus is a lot wider so when I focus on a minifig's face, the minifigs standing closer or farther away than the one I'm focusing on don't have as blurry of faces anymore. The shots are also overall better quality because of megapixels and junk.

I like my drafting table because I can either stand next to it without stooping, or sit on my stool. It was about $200, but it's been worth it because I hated having to constantly hunch over while standing when I used to use a cheap folding card table.

Pad printing (method used by Lego) is way more expensive and only viable if you print in very large quantities, so they go for cheaper methods.

But some of the groups are leaving the market because bootlegs copy their designs, use the factories in China to pad print and sell the same figs for a lesser value.

Thanks, she's been through a bunch over the years. I actually posted that one image to remember how it was before I changed it last night. I swapped out a M-motor for a L-motor and changed the gearing on the inside, cut down the size of the cab, and made the interior of the boiler sturdier. Small changes you probably wouldn't notice, but the motor change means it can actually pull more than 3 cars without slowing down due to the weight.

Yeah, I've mentioned before that steam trains are a lot harder to make than diesels/electrics, but they're worth it in the end. It's halfway between system and technic construction in a way since there's a lot of involvement in gear ratios to consider.

Don't have either, but that's below MSRP for them, which is good. Clocking in at 280 pieces, Vader is probably a better deal (vs. Naboo at 200p), but it doesn't look like the parts themselves are much to speak of in either set. Pick the one with the minifigs you like most?

After a 3 year hiatus of not posting any Mocs online as I havent built anything I finally got back to building with my discovery of Bricklink back in January. For the longest time whenever i had a ambitious project the big hinderance was always "I dont have the parts" etc. But with Bricklink there is no such barrier and I usually end up building Mocs in wierd colors then order what I need on Bricklink to get a consistent color scheme.

To keep my posting online consistent for once I've made the decision to finish 12 Mocs, post one each month as I build others. I started in january and I've finished 3 Mocs so far, 2 of them I'm about halfway done which leaves me with about 17 more ideas but only 7 more mocs to build.

Most of the builds are Mechs so far, with some futuristic tanks (ended up futuristic because I wanted something with more color), so far a gynoid character (had a lot of help looking at photos from Zemata) but I plan to make more. So far only vehicles but I want to make something similar to a modular building but cyberpunk/sci-fi (think mass effect citadel) as well as a diorama of the Terminal map from MW2.

I won't be able to finish until sometime around 2018 but thats the golden thing with having your own Lego projects there's no deadline to be met. After years of grinding in video games for the sake of not missing out or having worse gear than your friends its refreshing having let go of video games entirely and just fiddling with plastic bricks again. It is truly what makes me happy in life.

How old are you guys and what do you do for a living?
I'm 25 and a student, honestly i miss my Lego. I'm super stressed with all the things I need to study and do, I just want to sit down and build a spaceship or something.
But my collection is several hundred kilometers away at my moms place. She gave away a lot of my creations to a neighbor that helped her move. I'm not mad, I just feel a little sad.

I mostly fiddle around with lego and build stuff that they wouldn't release them self. I try to make the builds look like actual sets including shitty play features,swooshability and tiny locations. Currently I am making dimensions sets for horror movies.

It's relatively blocky compared to the original, but that's almost a given at that scale.
Colours, tail-lights and "sharpness" are on-point and feel right (don't know how to quantify what i'm talking about, but think the opposite of "hamerburger" aesthetic cues)
The only little grip i have is the little open spaces next to the fenders, those can be tricky to work away. Just did some work on a now finished car that worked them away with jumpers that only just don't rub the tires.

As far as investments go, lego isn't that great. I wouldn't go for non-lisenced stuff. I don't see anyone becoming a ninjago fan after the theme has ended, and any kids that can't afford it now will have second hand sets.

My advice is to buy the sets you like and enjoy them. Sell them later for what you can. You might make some money, you might just mitigate the cost of your hobby a little. With 3-D printing becoming more accessible and the rise of knock offs and increase in their quality, lego is just not a viable investment strategy.

What actually increased is the amount of large expensive sets.
Check out some old Sci-Fi/Space themes like Insectoids or Ice Planet where most sets were in the 3$-30$ range with a single large flagship set being somewhere around 60-80$.
Now take the Ninjago movie sets for example:
Ignoring the polybags since they aren't really available everywhere, the two cheapest boxed sets are 10 and 20$ and not even relevant to the movie, then the bad guy vehicles and Master Falls are 30$, all the hero vehicles are between 40-90 bucks, the temple is 100$, Destiny's Bounty is 160$ and finally there's the Ninjago City with its 300$ pricetag - over half of those are sets that no parent in their right mind would get as impulse buy for their kids.

If you can find someone selling them in pieces it's cheaper. I think I paid about 1.30 for mine since I bought the head and body off different sellers. It works on tauntauns too.

Just finished this. The mounts for those joysticks are snaked up through the interior of the fairing using some clip and bar connections. Sending out a colony of studs was the only way to get any purchase, since aside from the headlamps and the rear, the only connection on the fairing is the clip on the underside.

Soon, I'm just putting the finishing touches on this guy and that 14xx since I'm planning on using them for the Christmas layout this year. Then I'll take a bunch of pics with it and its rolling stock.

I decided to go back and make it shorter since it's not really accurate with how long it was before, using the large red wheels didn't help out with that really. Going to go back to the medium ones, even though they don't get as much grip.

I got the current Y-Wing set from my parents for my b-day. It's pretty awesome. I love the bomb-dropping mechanism. Plus another new astromech :D

As an added bonus, my wife told me she also got it for me for Christmas, so double-Y-Wing might be a thing in a couple of months!

Personally, I love the Y-Wing. The backstory and the fact that it's not The Best Thing At Everything (like the X-Wing, which is still cool) make it better IMHO.

I have two Y-Wings as well. Well technically three, but the third is still in it's box.

I did the second one up as my own personal Y-Wing, replacing all the yellow with green and the white with black and then adding a couple of Orange high lights.
Just waiting on a few more parts to finish it (as well as a pilot version of my SigFig) off.

Also modded both of them so that I can swish them and not have bombs going everywhere, until I want them to be deployed.

I'm guessing you want a minifigure scaled fountain looking build, but scary is subjective. Maybe you could look up scary stone-colored minifigs. They have British angles, gargles, and general stone monsters to pick from. Then put 4 of them around a basin, maybe add a few trans-blue fire pieces and call it good.

Knock offs wont decrease Lego value. The brand name is what gives it value.
You don’t need to worry about 3d printings for a good 20 years. To make something of decent Lego quality, you need an absurdly expensive machine (or you could cheap out, but it’s still several grand at least for something decent) and the time, labor, and material costs associated with it. Especially to get something with the durability to be attached and unattached repeatedly (which even Lego is having a hard time with). You’d be better off learning mold making
Though buying modern Lego is not a good idea for the simple fact that there are more of them out there. Any collectible increasing in value is a combination of rarity and subject matter.
So old Star Wars shit will be worth a lot, but old Lego adventure sets wouldn’t be. And even then, prices start to plateau after a while and you still need to store rather large boxes for years.
tl;dr : Just get a job

Chima-world is such a weird thing for them to have put in that park. I'm sure it only exists because the people who made the park (not actually lego) were like, "what's popular RIGHT NOW?" and didn't understand what a big-bang theme was.

You're probably right. I'd guess that they were planning on it selling more Chima toys. The next new ride is a virtual coaster with minifig themes, but they are all older cmfs. Kinda hard to sell toys you don't have any more.

Again, that's the issue with the fact that TLG has no control over the park. They're just licensing the themes to another company. You can't even get VIP points at the stores in the theme parks, because they're that far from being affiliated with TLG.

These descriptions are nonsense since I've just come across final pictures (except for the Supremacy set, unfortunately), I'll post some real descriptions very soon :wink:

75200: Contains Luke, Rey with both her staff and the lightsaber and a single Porg (looks like the ones from the Falcon). The main build is one of those stone huts with a cloth piece covering the entrance. The main play function is a rock Rey can smash with a Chima crystal inside. The cooking place is one of those black inverted dome pieces. Accessories include a pan, a torch, a cherry, a stick, a fish and a cup :sweet:

75197: Contains two Executioner Stormies, a FO shuttle pilot (the one from the SD) and a FO Crew member *groan*. The main build looks like the one from the Senate Commando BP with a different colour scheme (dark gray, trans-red and black)

75202: Includes Poe, Ematt, a Resistance Trooper and two FO Snowtroopers. The main builds are the ski speeder (with dark red accents in contrast to the microfighters variant, that has blue accents), a turret and a small tower, both with light bluish gray and orange colour schemes. The plates beneath both the turret section and the tower are dark red, very appropriate :thumbup:

75195 contains a ski speeder with that leaked headphoned pilot and a AT-M6 with a walker pilot.

75196 includes a blue A-Wing and Kylo's TIE Silencer. The minifigs are Tallie Lintra (who's just called "A-Wing pilot") and Kylo, complete with lightsaber and all :laugh:

Their quality is increasing. Investment sets aren't. This may not directly effect collectors but with increasingly more of the market shifting to viable alternatives (fuck, even megabloxz has some stuff worth looking at now) there will be less lego monopoloy. It doesn't have to be lego quality to chip away at lego's market share. That ultimately will translate to less buyers for any sort of mark up over retail price on ninjago city. Also shipping.

When you invest in something the 'value' that its name gives is irrelevant if you can't sell it. So yes, your precious klocki will have value, but the market won't be there for the set he was asking about.

Even investing in old sets is risky when they just rereleased that taj mahal, and they remake the deathstar periodically.

I read an article about this phenomenon a few months ago that I wish I could find. Basically, there's a subset of people who are extremely prone to believe in conspiracies, and these people are wired to assume all conspiracy theories are correct, and have the ability to ignore contradictions (even blatant ones) because what they're really focused on is the assumption that the truth is always the opposite of what someone tells them.

It was a good read.
