I really don't get why people sperg over the Classics mold so much, it's obviously not slavishly GEEWUN but the robot is a cool design and the dino mode is easily one of the most fun and expressive beast transformers around. He might as well be the bogstandard CHUG Grimlock if all the others are also going to be Deluxes.

Nah, all of his proportions are bad. His legs are too skinny, his chest is too wide, and his arms are also too small.

Looking at the pics posted in the last few days, an upgrade kit won't fix these problems.

Well, I guess if it's for Dino mode its alright. Back could be better, but the tail and legs leave a bit to be desired.

My recommendation is to pay what you believe he's worth. In my opinion, that's 15, but that's me.

Stumpy arms, shoulders that don't peg in, a weird collar piece that also doesn't peg in, the most visible screwholes on a figure until Universe Ironhide said "Let ME show you how it's done!", and dino jaw feet that look stupid from any angle that isn't straight on.

He was acceptable then for only one reason: he was all we had.

I like Classics Grimlock as a post G1/G2 Grimmy. to me, classics was more like a continuation of the original continuity rather than straight updates. Kind of like a "G3".

That's probably what's going to drive me away from this hobby within the next couple of years. The fandom's full of people who will gobble up and support absolute garbage if it's in a Sunbow wrapper, and unfortunately Hasbro figured that out. The Generations days of new designs and creative transformations are gone, replaced by kid-gimmicked MP-lites and generic bodies used a dozen times over three years. As soon as I get my Headmaster Juniors from Titans Return Again, I'm gone.

A local just put up this lot for 10 euros / 12 USD, is there anything of value in here? The official stuff in here seems to be in terrible shape, Space Case is missing his claw arm and G2 Purple Megatron appears to only have the main body in place (unless his head is mistransformed somewhere in there, I guess?) but what really caught my attention is what appears to be a weird Skullcruncher KO, with the Headmaster included. What the hell is this thing and how much is it worth? Older 1980s KOs sometimes have a surprising collectible value, could this actually be a good deal for him alone?

Whoops, I'm a retard, just saw the rocket launcher being moved and assumed the head has hidden inside of it or else. Nah, I have a ton of 3P hands and feet. They didn't stress anything I've see. My 2 'copter guys (1 Blades, 1 Vortex) both were stressed to shit from the default handfoot guns. Even after some sanding Vortex still split, prompting me to buy a 2nd just in case if brother further.

For you maybe, but I'd gladly take the cartoon deco over Hasbro's vintage toy deco. I never liked the clear plastic on my vintage figures and I don't like it now. That's just my preference and I admit that there are some people who disagree with me and that's fine. Just cause something is vintage doesn't make it good or better than something else. Everyone has different tastes.

Honestly, people put too much weight on the paint job. UW Bruticus wasn't much better than the CW version but the blue PLASTIC on Onslaught was beautiful.

sounds unlikely. The arms are too far away from the torso, the lower legs too big for the feet and the limbs too thick for the body. Grimmy's T-rex arms flailing about don't help in the least. I think a 3P torso could solve most of its problems though, but the ideal would have been to not make the Dinobots a combiner team or at least them the BIG combiner team like they did with Devastator if they really needed to do a combiner. There's too much compromise for an end product that doesn't look very hot.

I'm not one of the "buh it's not g1!" people but I always wanted something that fit in line with the rest of the franchise. Humanoid and solid-looking, but with an angular flair. Statuesque. Something else I wanted back in the day was the voice actors' faces used as the base for their appearance. For example, John Goodman Hound actually having his face angled-out, metallic, and in a robot helmet. I remember there was a rumor that Patrick Stewart was going to be Prime, so Optimus could've had his eyes and nose shape behind the faceplate.

If only we had someone who actually cared behind the wheel of the movies. They could've been amazing.

I think a major redeco of Tryp would kind of work, honestly. They could never get away with rereleasing Metro under MP branding without getting ankle tilts, proper hands and better ratchets, though.

In general I'd like Takara to do a proper release of Trypticon. Rushing him out without making any changes to the Hasbro version just sucked for everyone.

That's one figure I've totally come around on. At first glance, it looks worse than the Hasbro version in every way, but having both in hand of a while, it eventually won me over. The beige/cream colored plastic is so much nicer, as is the brown. They just both seem more opaque and richer, and it shows off the sculpted detail better. The red plastic bits on the hips and weapons is a thousand times nicer than Hasbro's And the painted wheels make a world of difference. Only thing I'm not super keen on is the transparent plastic on the windows, I prefer the tinted version on Hasbro. I tried Frankensteining together a figure using my favorite parts from each, but it didn't seem quite right.

If I got Takara Misfire, he'd be the only one with a targetmaster on my shelf.
I already have Hasbro Triggerhappy because the paintjob on the Takara version's face was horrible and as soon as I find one I'll get Hasbro Slugslinger because I like its guns more.

I just don't like how sloppy it is. They don't paint over the edges of the mouthplate, just the front, so it looks cheap and unfinished. The yellow paint doesn't even completely fill the recess for the eyes, either, and every one I saw in stores had some errant splotches of paint where they didn't belong.

That's more of an issue with the head sculpt than the color of the eyes. The visor from the helmet and the mouthplate keeps light off of them from most directions. Probably the designs were done by Takara's artists. Hasbro's contract artists seem to take more artistic liberties.

Why do people think that when a headsculpt is made to resemble something, it has to look EXACTLY like it? I'm pretty sure someone at Hasbro could have sculpted a red robot face with a yellow visor without it looking exactly like pic related.

If you think about it they can pretty much just use the Ghost Starscream head they used in the Grand Galvatron set to do Skywarp and Thundercracker. They only new tooling they would need is a conehead head sculpt and maybe some new wings for the coneheads.

I was thinking the same thing, paint the panels in a different color so it doesn't look contiguous to his forearms, then you can think of it like extra equipment instead of pop-eye arms. Overall, a better color scheme would make this a decent Starscream.
