I made a lemon flavored car. It's entirely based off of the 1970 Toyota Celica 1600, which is one of my favorite cars ever made. What do you guys think of it?

It’s all about the brand
I don’t see licenses going away ever, but I could see them become less if future sets sell less. Star Wars could easily become overextended and people not caring about sets between movies and them scaling production of them back
Obviously this is an optimistic prediction from someone who doesn’t like Star Wars (and kind of hates it now that Disney is spamming it so hard)

Judging by the reaction thus far, too many nostalgia AFOLs would get mad. They could always drop them and bring them back like classic coke though. Kids that grew up with fleshies won't care when they are AFOLs though.

You should really be more concerned about how much plastic they use and the push for green everything. We're more likely to see quality drop due to recycled materials than the end of yellowface.

Not bad, but I think the B-pillar could be canted forward to give a better side profile, and I think the back end might be sleeker it weren't as long and didn't hang off the back axle as far. A good start, to be sure.

Super jelly that I was in darkages for LotR/hobbit sets. Any of the good sets are so over priced now. Even the individual figs and accessories are ridiculous. I just want an orcish horde to kill the goddamn batman.

What kills me is all the cheap 'incomplete' sets on bricklink listed as "like NEW. No minifigs or weapons." People are realizing no one will buy the whole set for $50, so they're selling the minifigs for $5-20 each and putting the 'set' up for 'cheap'.

Why not build it sideways, use a 1x2 brick with axl hole for the base and 2x2 curved slope on one side, and an inverted 2x2 curved slop for the other. that way it could 'grip' with studs and with antistuds. you could put 1x2 plates in for spacing as needed.

Could be, but the inverted curved slopes aren't available in many colors yet. It would make life easier to have 2x2 curved slopes for both sides.

I don't know what it is guys but i've feel out of love with legos, I just don't if its just that I don't have the room or I don't want to get rid of my old sets. Also what bothers me now is the price for sets and that we get "new" city sets every other year, like the current fire truck looks like the one from 2005 or that they do forest police and coast guard every 2-3 years. Also I have a question, is it worth spending the money on the older 80s-90s boat sets?

I still have an unopened Dol Guldur Battle set. I personally don't think it's very interesting, but at least it has Radagast, I guess, and The Necromancer. The statue in the courtyard isn't bad, either. Gotta love "bonus" figs.

If you like the build, why not? That's the fun thing about Legos (cue Galidor), you can have them in whatever configuration you want. Might be based on the instructions for a build you like, might be a moc. Whatever makes the owner happy.

Well I do have one of the cargo boats from like 2011 and now that I think about it I could try to turn it into a bulk carrier, thanks anon.

I'll just be happy if the set isn't overpriced. Sure, the license plays into that, but a nice array of different sets instead of just a fuck huge Recognizer with 4-5 minifigs for ~200, and that's all they offer, just doesn't sound fun at all.

because that’s really obvious. Some speed champions sets come with figs
Just count how many studs wide the car is. 6 wise is a more proportional size to figs while 8 is a bit big but still passable

I think they are greatly over stating the significance of the wealth gap, and blaming potential viewers for not viewing their product instead of focusing on making a better product. If they sold the sets they reviewed it might cost them like $20 an episode. They might even be able to find people locally that would let them review the sets they buy. They literally have thousands of dollars of lego behind them in the video. I half expected them to link a patreon or gofundme. Asking their audience to send them sets to review is almost as bad.

If jang made this video it would be 3 minutes long, scripted, concise and would hit you right in the feels and then end on a laugh and a smile. It's not his fault that no one wants to see a man talking over a woman talking over ambient underwater music that adds nothing.

The quantity per specific figure per box varies.
Older ones typically had some more common ones (5-4 per box) up to more rare ones (3 per box). Mr Gold was an exception ofcourse.
I think the more recent waves had them divided equally. If you google the specific wave and "quantities per box" or something you'll find all the info you need.

Some boxes in 16 figure series have 5 of a given figure and other and the other have 3 or 4 but no figure is more rare than the other, at least statistically. In the case of 20 figure series (so for now just TLBM/TLNM ones) there's 3 of each figure in each box.

I haven't seen any comment from him about it. It was listed in his official sites list on his site, but was taken down under youtube's impersonation rules. It was pretty clear that he made those videos and put a fair amount of work into some of them and his views/subs were insane for a new channel.

Current 16 figure series have 3, 4 and 5 counts for "rarities". Female figures will almost always only come 3-to-a-case. 20 figure series are equally distributed as was mentioned.

I seem to recall reading that some of the older series came in cases of 30, which led to their only being 2 of particular figure(s) in them. Series 18 is looking to repeat series 10 with a 17th figure. We don't know anything specific about that yet,

Not really sure what they're planning, the article is pretty vague. They could, however, double down on licensing as a means of staying hip and with-it by pumping out toys for whatever the cool kids are into at any given moment. Of course Powerpuffs (though it has a new cartoon) and Tron aren't exactly hot at the moment. Especially when Disney seems to have killed off any plans to continue the Tron line at the moment.

Makes sense. Imagine your kid likes Star Wars, well, you get him Star Wars but then you've just spent an assload on those sets so you aren't feeling inclined to shelling out more for City or anything else, because Lego are expensive and surely he should want some other toy like a Nerf Whatsits Turbo Extreme Nutshot. It just feels like throwing money at all the same kind of toy isn't very unlikely to happen, at least from a psychological point. Especially when he probably wants some video game that costs out the ass too because he also wants to borrow the credit card for loot box shit.

There are like 2 cars that are ugly.
But its easy to fix that - just remove gimmick that made those cars ugly. Its all because of gimmick so kids can fight monsters with hammers or other things.
Removing gimmick/gears that butchers cars insides can turn them into cool old timey cars

Its not just few little sets that are many. There are many big as hell expensive sets too.

UA came later than MF and the brain piece used there was much more stylized, there was a head with a brain print in Harry Potter and Studios sets in 2002 which is what's drawn here. They probably for some reason couldn't reuse that and as a result there's just a skull instead of a brain in this lab.

Modulars were annual basically since they introduced them and there was always at least one more non-modular huge set per year (usually a SW one), but the point stands, this year's 4 or 5 of them is definitely an overkill.

Also, which Arkaham Asylum? Wasn't it a normal retail set when they first got the DC license in 2007 or so, not even the biggest one in the line?

Not really, they were just advertised less. For example 2008 had green grocer, that fuckhuge ugly Grievous statue nobody remembers, the town plan and two big Factory space sets, but since we didn't see them constantly everywhere online they're easier to forget.

Every year since 2006 had multiple, they started doing it as soon as it was clear the company is back to normal after the late 1990s/early 2000s financial problems and can gamble with stuff like expensive sets targeting the collector market instead of kids. I do think half a dozen of these per year and another half a dozen Ideas sets which have a similarly limited appeal is pointless but at this point it's an old thing; what's new is spreading them among themes (especially kid appeal themes like Ninjago), before it was almost exclusively Creator and Star Wars, if I'm not mistaken.

I think prices in general are going up, and set sizes as well. It's not necessarily a bad thing. If you look at really early lego you get like 5 bricks and its a duck, or you get those incredibly minimalist space rovers. Every set now comes with a lot of tiny detail parts that really improve the look, but add to cost. Dual molded minifig parts and prints on backs and sides also add to cost. That paired with licensing means you really won't ever see very cool sets for under $20/$25. There are some exceptions, but there is only so much you can do as a set designer with that budget and the seemingly mandatory 3 minifigs and a side build taking up a lot of it.

Not saying I'm surprised. You work at a Walmart you'll be having your soul sucked out of you by the second week. After awhile you just stop giving a shit. Still with a bit more patience you could have felt the bags, identified what they were, and probably sold them on Amazon. Some go for a decent markup. You could have eventually bought even more klocki for your crime.

Yeah, especially with "perennial" themes like City, the occasional specialized sub-theme is nice but does the market really need a new Police/Fire Station on top of a full sub-theme product line for every seasonal release?

I mean, we don't need a whole new Firefighter or Police release every year on top of whatever else City is flavored with; Give the civic service sub-themes a bit longer shelf life, since it's not like they're going to go out of style or anything!

They've actually gotten a bit better with this, with a larger selection in the $20-$40 USD range as well as the return to sub-$10 USD "Impulse buy" sets.
I love the fact that City now has both a battle-pack equivalent with the Starter Sets AND a sampler pocket sets.

The difference is the piece used for the shaft however; A telescope/stud shaft is able to be clipped onto up near one end while the the Lightsaber Handle provides only a couple of millimeters to the one end.
So even when the clip handle is chocked down as far as it can go on Jyn's baton, there's not much difference in the length of the two ends, resulting in the "butt" of the baton being nearly as unwieldy as the "long" striking arm.

I'm right there with you. Especially the police stations since the newest is only slightly different from the last City one (that wasn't Swamp flavored or whatever).

As for the baton debate, she does use one in the film but not at the point where that particular U-Wing is in use since it's different than the one that started out with. I mean this may mean jack shit. Iron Man vs. Mandarin's flamethrower zamboni and all that.

I have a bunch of 4x12 bricks underneath of the green baseplate to prop it up and avoid that problem. Otherwise the weight of the baseplate would pop those 2x2 white tiles off.

not that anon, but i personally dislike them because they are often used to "cheat", mostly by using pieces in normally unavailable colours (which i think takes away some of the challenge of moccing).
And i guess it just feels weird to me since LEGO is such a physical hobby.

Also not them, but one of the main play features are the boxing gloves. In general the play feature shouldn't take longer to build than it does to get old. The microwave with lobster made the features list/description. I know it was a crucial part of the movie but LOLRANDOM is just stupid in a set that expensive.

Also for the competition, some wee kids dont have massive parts collections and can't bricklink-order their way into the right parts. TLG wants them to have as much a chance as anybody who does have those to have, so judging on the design, without consideration of the medium, is important.

Absolutely disagree. Digital is a lot easier because you can open a moc up without it falling apart, swap out pieces without having to disassemble it, and undo any mistakes without having to remember any connections.

You're also not bound by gravity like the other anon said. A lot of the digital mocs I see here aren't impressive even though they're highly detailed because their connections are fraudulent and only work on a computer. They're more "look at this cool picture I made with LDD" than "look at this cool moc I made".

Personally, if you just want those specific pieces and Lego ships to your country, it would probably be better for you to order those individual parts directly from Lego.

Bricklink is the best resource for parts from sets that aren't being produced anymore, but since this set is still in production, all those pieces are available in their warehouse.

This of course assumes that you A) live in a country that Lego ships to and B) the cost of shipping + parts isn't higher than what the set would cost for you to buy in a store.

Some of the elves parts are interesting. Some of the color schemes might be useful. Weird purple alien forest for space theme, just add green ladyfigs.

One of my local stores has gotten pretty weird about the sets, though. First they tried to combine it with the regular lego aisle, then they moved the Friends, Super Girlfriends (whatever), and Princess sets back to the girl aisles but the elves line is notably absent. I don't really follow the line so I thought at first that it might have ended.

It was supposed to be modular. I expect it would be very expensive over all to collect them, but each set or at least the individual rooms shouldn't have been too expensive and you could certainly fill in or augment with MoCs. I don't know if I would be that into the system, but I certainly was hoping to see it approved for parts packs, cool figs and rooms to display/store my orcs and nexo knights.

1984. This is the only year that I got Lego sets when was a kid. GI Joe took off that year, I became obsessed with it and never bought another Lego set.

I had the King's Castle, Space Dart-1, and Star-Patrol Launcher. I think I also had the Auto & Tire Repair and Police Patrol Squad. They look familiar at least. I remember seeing that Motorcycle Shop and wanting it.

To be honest, lego quality dropping is a fair price to pay for a usable planet that doesn't look like fucking Blade Runner.

Yea, That's What I've done in the past. I'll get a modular, build it stock. Then take apart and make huge improvements. The Parisian Restaurant for example. I modded out a huge back deck for outdoor dining. Seats 24 I believe. Then for the theater, I incorporated/added a mini corner store on the first floor, and a back room to the theater on the second floor. I guess I'll be building it when the snow falls. Thanks!
