Just got off the phone with Lego customer support and they'll be sending me a replacement for my green headband hippie hair! The rep couldn't find it in their system right away ("It's not showing up in my system but it comes up right away when I google it so I know it really exists!") but eventually was able to locate it and luckily they had one in stock. I had assumed that because it was a TRU exclusive one-week-only blah blah blah they probably wouldn't have it in their warehouse.

I dropped into the store this morning and exchanged the two sets. Thankfully they had two of the Destiny Bounty in stock - I was worried they might not have any at all.

Honestly I was worried about this set after seeing other ideas sets getting watered down, but it’s a heafty build and a good addition to other modular sets

Lego was absolutely horrible during early 00s.
It created lots of questionable content including worst sets ever made or hilarious memes like Galidor.
Even Castle sets of 00s were shit and figures were boring.

yes we have licenseshit eating Pirates/Space/etc. themes but at least nowadays Lego is a bit more confident and has good quality stuff.

Got to sort and build today. Day 2 of the season for me. My GF even brought me dinner tonight. She's cool with my kloki addiction. It's my money so I can buy what I want. Please note both troopers have gloves now. This set is a beast and I've had to pull a few more pieces from my stock to keep it moving but still worth the short money I paid. Today was a comfy day!

I have to figure out where I'll display this once it's done. I plan on making this a scene with workers all around it. It won't really go with my city scene. That's a nice hook. Sadly mine broke a few years back. I still have the broken piece but never had the heart to try fixing it. It'll never be the same.

Basically if you want to swap it out between arms be incredibly careful. You may not think you're putting any pressure on the hook but it doesn't take much.

I'd make Bob's Spaceship Service shop right in the middle of town, with it parked out back.

Though I'd give it a different superstructure to make it look more like a unique ship in minifig scale, while keeping the arrowhead shape. IMO it looks really good, especially with the mismatched gray panels.

What's some of the earliest Lego you remember from your childhood?

I didn't own these sets, but a friend of mine did. Everytime I went over to play I would arrange the whole team, Scoop, Mack, the super sexy Dizzy, etc.

Set #190 from 1975

When I came out of my dark ages my mom was selling the house I grew up in and asked me if I wanted any of my old toys. Got this set and many others. I collected all the original space sets. Feels good.

I very rarely buy sets unless it is something I have to have. I buy bulk lots and usually 20 lb lots or more. I did do the K-mart sale and scored when the local Bennies went out of business. I have some favorite memories and sets but I do think LEGO has lost its original goal. It's all about licensing today and $$$ now. And I will say it was pricey back then but no where what it is today.

To the guy from the last thread saying comparing old promos to new boxart is not a viable comparison because Lego alaays went all out with promo photoshoots, note that these old boxes still blow new ones out of the water. These were sets placed in a lightbox with nothing but the physical set and maybe a photoshopped background. Way less sterile and shooped compared to modern clipart boxes.

Yeah. I actually had no clue I had this set, I noticed the stickered pieces in my klocki and went off of that and then boom, I had a brand new set in my collection. It's 6550 "Outback Racer". It's a comfy little rally car. The other 3 cars are from 6553 Crisis News Crew, 6561 Hot Rod Club, and 6549 Roadblock Runners. I'm working on the vehicles from 6490 Amazon Crossing and 6596 Wave Master too, I'll see about posting those when I finish them.

Yeah it was a great deal. Probably close to 10 lbs. Maybe 9 lbs. I always hit them pretty hard before xmas. Weird thing is they will just as easily put out like the bottom of a lego boat and 20 pieces and call it $5. But I was pretty happy. I once got about 10 lbs for $20 that had some of the old school space stuff with the weird orange transparent pieces. That was my best find ever probably.

as far as i know the story was ended completely through magic wish.
One of ninjas wished for all that stuff never happening. So all these characters never met each other and their life currently goes by their casual way without them being sky pirates (only like couple of them were even regular pirates. All other were just random dudes/gals).

This wasn't really a particularly good theme. The villain vehicles all sucked and while the colors on the good guys were pretty nice many of the builds were flimsy, Agents or Castle are better examples. Still, it was indeed light years ahead of early 2000s - the only really memorable themes from between 2000 and 2006 or so are Orient Expedition, the horror wave of Studio, Vikings and maybe early Harry Potter for the fun modular Hogwarts gimmick that I wish was used for a normal castle theme too.

I think it's because in a lot of countires it only got a limited release, also the monsters were an odd mix of system, technic and these weird castle buildable figures that ended up as basis for Exo Force joints, so a lot of them don't look too good at certain angles - I'd say the wolf you posted and the red dragon were the best ones.

I have mixed feelings about Exo Force, the idea was nice on paper but the figs looked awkward (not just because of the faces, many of the torso prints were much worse, and don't get the me started on the "marbled" evil mooks) and most sets seemed unfinished in one way or another, I think having 2-3 mecha sets per year in different themes is better than having a single mecha theme considering most of the recent ones are fantastic.

Additionally, it seems like there were many last minute changes done to most of the Vikings sets - the prototypes shown in retailer catalogues etc. often look nothing like the actual product, which is very uncommon; usually all that's missing from these photos are the figures and a couple fresh molds/colors, but in the case of Vikings three or four sets were swapped for something else altogether. Perhaps they couldn't make the monster buidls work well enough at given price point, or assumed kids will find multiple dragons more exciting than some sort of bull and a squid?

Just need to wait until summer when people start having garage sales again. I have an unfair advantage in that I run a newspaper so when people bring in ads for their sales, I can look at their list of items and if it says "toys" I'll ask them right there, "Got any Legos?"

If they do, I either ask if they can text me a picture, or I just make a point to be at the sale 10 minutes before they open. People just want to sell their stuff, so if they can sell it to me ahead of the sale, they're happy to.

The regular ones from canister sets generally are, the pitch black body from Alpha Team is dirt cheap as well. The Studios recolor of the t-rex is expensive and so are Orient Expedition elephants which used the same body.

The problem here is that it seems the snake uses multiple copies of a piece that was only used in the elephants: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=43889&idColor=9 rather than just the one from the dinosaurs: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=40375&idColor=9#T=C&C=9 You could stick to just connecting dinosaur torsos to each other without the need for this but the connections would end up awkwardly long, I feel. Also you'd have to settle for a mosasaur head (comes in black and sand blue iirc) which is a bit different from the serpent artwork.

I worked at a drug store in the states and we just threw out old magizines, including the disks that came with PC gamer from time to time. Different anon, but the baseplates for lego dimensions are about the right size if not a hair too large for a traditional 1-inch grid.

What you need to keep in mind is how the size classes in dnd relate to miniature size. Generally you have tiny to medium in a 1 inch square, large in 2x2, huge in 3x3, gargantuan in 4x4.

tl;dr Keep you minis in the pic related sizes for a 1-inch grid.

Yeah, Lego sets usually avoid connecting transparent pieces together, because the polycarbonate material (different from the ABS material that most pieces are made out of) starts to bond to itself, so it creates a level of friction that The Lego Group has decided makes the pieces too difficult for little kids to easily pull apart.

"Gator Landing" was the first kit I got, I was about four years old so it was a pretty advanced build.

Dad, who helped me build it, always called it the Columbian's Hideout. I never understood why until I rediscovered the kit as an adult and noticed the brown packages and large quantities of cash that the vehicles are transporting...

And happy to say that over 20 years of ownership, it is missing only one piece - one ofthe $100 bills!

I think the most recent powered Lego trains are two City ones, a North American style cargo train as well as a double-ended heavy hauler. Think there's a passengers train as well but they all might've been discontinued by now.

You're forgetting "midnight transport" a bunch of dudes hanging out in the desert for a plane to drop of some suitcases.

My head canon when I got this set was to set them up as drug/everything else smugglers using 1x1 whit flat tiles that fit in the suitcases. I called them "The Midnight Runners", and my police force was never the same again. Their run by a guy called "El Hombre" who nearly 30 years later is still at large!

I'm going to have to bricklink some up. Might even remake their sets for the modern age.

This set is a bad memory for me. My dad got mad at me for some reason or another, and decided to throw the Lego I had out (including this newly purchased and assembled set) into assorted tubs, then ground me from Lego for a month or two. This is what the head looks like from the back. There's a hole on the top of the head but sadly it doesn't fit a stud or a connector peg, though you it has a small amount of cling at the raised middle of the peg.

It was supposed to be printed on a dark bley torso, so it's a factory defect that's not supposed to be sold. Somebody pocketed it on the factory floor and resold it to the guy who sold it to me. I don't know how many are available, because the only seller on Bricklink who's offering them only had two listed. I guess if someone buys the other one and he lists more for sale we'll know there are more than two in existence.

So everytime you guys bring up the adventurerers theme and Johnny Thunder i reminisce about the good old days and think to myself: 'Man, that Johnny really had some spunk.' But everytime i then came across the assembled one that lays around i'm always dissapointed and underwhelmed with him.
So today i finally decided to go googling and apparently i have a headpiece from the later era. It's subtle, but holy shit how did they manage to make him go from conniving and charismatic to looking like a drooling idiot. I mean look at that confused look on his face, he looks like his retarded stunt-double.
Luckily i found an original in my partsbin. The print is a bit washed out and muddy, but still looks way more appropiate than this one.

Yeah the original face is a lot cooler, lego was in a weird part of experimenting with new faces during the early 2000's.

There's something about Legos that brings me back to my childhood. There's the obvious nostalgic route through to it, but there's something beyond that too. Seeing these adventurers sets summons some upsetting feeling in my chest because I know I've lost that innocence that one allowed me to enjoy these sets in a way that's no longer truly possible as an adult. And the irony of the situation is that as an adult I can only really afford new purchases of this plastic crack by working some job that seems to combat any sort of child-like experiences I can ever hope to experience as an adult. It really speaks to the human condition when I sit here lament on some anonymous image board to people who I have no history with about toys that I once loved and even as I write this I know these words will soon be gone. I wish I could've been a kid forever and played with my legos because now all I know is misery.q

I might not play exactly the same way as i might've done back in the day, picking them up and doing realtime make believe stories (wich i rarely did). But to be honest i hardly ever think of the stories and characters i had back then. If anything, i'm more balls deep into the creativity and wonder of the magic world i pull out of my behind right now than i ever was.
When i look at older sets i owned, I saw in catalogs or were from the time when i was younger it's mostly vibe and atmosphere around them. The designs of the prints, the elements used and style of builds have this thick and personal style and touch to them that i can get so much enjoyment out of by just looking at them.

I'm 25 and in university, with admittedly only some on and off real jobs on the side, but Lego is the only really childlike vice that i actually gradually got more and more into.
Admittedly i don't know your specific job or how you used to play with Lego, but the creative building as well as story and charactercreation is not something you have to just leave behind. The bigger pile of inspiration, experiences and refined tastes you gathered up to this moment only give more opportunity to do more exciting things!

I figured that the width is 1 and a half stud, but I couldn't find any way to put the stud-in-mid 2x1 plate aesthetically.

So I went to the Lego Store for my birthday and while the make-a-minifig station was a mess (usually the bins were segregated, but the kids must have mixed them up pretty bad) and I couldn't find much of exactly what I wanted (musketeer torso), I did manage to grab this guy. He's so damn charming. His figure alone makes me want to buy the rest of the gang in civilian clothes, but then I look at the others and they're not as charming. Getting him for less than $3 also made it well worth it.

I haven't worked at a lego store but I did work at a legoland, I took stray pieces all the time. And if a kid traded me a cool minifig I would pocket it and put one I built from the fig bin on my nametag for trading. Got a whole bunch of neat figs from kids.

Grabbed pic related because it was on sale and I had a $5 voucher to burn. I'm kind of thinking I should have grabbed the Black Knight Mech too/instead, but I think this set had more things I wanted, overall.

I agree. Steve and the plane were definitely the selling point for me, with Wonder Woman being a nice bonus. Probably turn Ares' helmet into a masthead for a Destiny's Bounty mod.

I need a bit of help. I don't have physical pieces so I'm unfamiliar with how things weigh. I want to connect the wing onto the body of the ship. Would this connection be suitable or would the wing be too heavy and be at risk of falling off?
