Because im from eu and im buying from Germany mostly (not even kidding - its german flag that i choose every time on bricklink...or most of the times if they also have lots of positive feedback) and it never bothered me.

Not really? Unless you took a hammer to them in order to get a round head peg into the heads axle slot. I guess you could try to balance the head on top of the neck but I wouldn't really consider that a true connection, loose or otherwise.

Basically defacto 10 percent off for your next purchase.
I think you can also trade them in for some special items but never looked into that often or didn't care.

Sometimes the builds have some potential for fun. I used the Millennium Falcon one from a few years ago as one of those rides in stores for the kiddies, though it IS a bit big. Also I added Mixel ball eyes to the AT-AT to turn it into a pet.

When you get more Lego than you know what to do with, you'll be thankful they didn't give you sets you didn't 100% want. When I had some real disposable income, I'd buy whatever I wanted as soon as I had enough. I bought Jabba's palace, the rancor pit, Metalbeard's ship along with most of the medium sized Lego Movie sets, all nine of the original Mixels and a few from the second line, and i even bought my friend's Millennium Falcon and a few other things he didn't want. Now I have even more from gifts and whatnot and nowhere to display even a quarter of them. That's not even including the five tubs of spare parts. I can't even look at a new set without thinking about how I have nowhere to put it and it immediately turns me off.

Built a micro walky-Klocki last night. I plan on swapping the Brickarms gun with two black binoculars connected with 4L bars to make a gauss gun.

I'm modding the ultimate temple so it fits in with regular modulars. I only have 1 wing but I'm pleased so far. Also, it's basically a big grey box so I'm sure everyone will be able to find something nice to say about it.

Though part of it is just about what's socially acceptable. I mean Lego is a toy, but in a sense it's not that far off from model trains or airplane kits. I have an uncle who's in to those things and my family always gets him a kit or some train thingy.

Also, I can definitely appreciate useful gifts like household items and things like that, but more often than not I'll just receive some useless gizmo that's way overpriced. I'd rather get one small gift I really like than something expensive I'm not going to use.

The character is a lot older than that. She was in an early draft of the Ep4 script. Pretty sure they even had an actress on set. She was also in the old Marvel series IIRC.

Also curiously the jacket she is wearing seems to have an imperial patch which caused a buzz among fans. Did anyone else notice that the merlok app updated to include merlok powers? It gives you the staff of merlok power for free, which is the only one missing from the winter 2018 wave that was released early in many places. I'm guessing that means we won't see a physical piece for it. AFAIK nexo was meant to be a 3 year theme and didn't hit ninjago levels of success to justify an extension. With rumors of cancellation all last year, I wonder if we'll see a summer wave now. It almost doesn't make sense because the TV series would have ended and there were only 6 sets in this past wave, but just enough to include each knight and the other 6 merlok powers.

Remember when the original Star Wars line came out?

It felt so new and exciting. The way the ships looked like the movie ones but we're still blocky enough to keep that 'lego' look.

I bought Poe's X Wing recently. First Lego set I've bought in years. I was surprised by how many small pieces there are.

It has around double the pieces of the original X Wing!

I was born 91 so just a little younger.

I remember going to Legoland with my dad and being so overwhelmed in the gift shop by the variety that I sort of panicked and picked up a Lego city set.

As we were queuing up he noticed the Star Wars display (which I was massively in to at the time) and said, hey, why don't you get the Snowspeeder instead? It looks much more fun!

The app is pretty lame, but I thought it was a neat idea. I know all the powers are available to scan online, but it was actually kinda neat scanning them when I got new sets.

I don't really know what the merlok powers add, but the game part of the app seems to be getting better from what little I've actually played of it. It's sad that they specifically referenced low interest in the app when discussing the theme. I think they really believed that the app would make nexo knights the next ninjago, just like they believed the batman movie would be the greatest movie of all time.

So, I put up last week that I was making a lego mini for a D&D mini. Thank you to whoever pointed out brick warriors.

Does anyone have good shield designs? The giant tower shields are a bit much and the ones that I have from the 2014ish Castle theme are too small.

Sadly the armguards that I wanted were out so I settled for the White "leather" over the silver/gunmetal actual vambraces.

I took some old extra minifigure series figures, grabbed the knight as a base from series 9 and used the series 11 barbarian head.

Another more stylized option with better size IMO is wonder woman's shield from the WW movie set. IIRC the set was $30 but I see it discounted anywhere from 20-25, and the builds are pretty great for that price.

I'm tempted to buy the original A Wing (the red one above) and Slave 1 as they're the only 2 remaining original Star Wars sets I never received in the end.

Took a few years but I did get the Tie Fighter/Y Wing set and the B Wing in the end.

My stepmother, who has literally no idea when it comes to toys, bought me the X Wing for Christmas just by chance I think. Again, I played with that for years.

I can't take all the credit, as a lot of it is derived from the brickdoctor's similar moc. When I build it myself and get any structural kinks worked out I'll drop a file of the design somewhere. I've been doing nothing but throw together 1 meter to 1/35th a stud ships for weeks.

I wouldn't blame anyone anyway, not that any personal blame from these threads would matter anyway. The problem, such as it is and as I see it, is that it's always a bit of a gamble what will sell. What's going to be the next hot hot toy each year. It's a risky thing, especially considering shit like the fidget spinners going supernova and then fizzling out. It's always hard to read the minds of consumers and even focus/test groups can only help so much. Licensing is in some ways a cheat by hoping that you can attach yourself to what will become big popular products and selling toys to go along with the craze generated (mostly) by new movies. It can be a nifty way to hedge your bets. That being the case I just don't see it going away anytime soon.

Course it didn't help Dimensions much. Still the character packs were so fucking ridiculously priced, I can understand parents balking. If they'd been cheaper for the parts you get I'd have snapped up certain sets like crazy, even buying multiples. I wonder if they would have been better off trying to separate the toy/game a bit more, instead relying on a more traditional model of letting people into the game buy new segments as DLC and just created toys on the side marketed as being able to buy the figures/builds you love from the game. That way the pure game people and the pure physical product people could have both gone nuts. Instead they, and more importantly their price, were lumped together.

This could, in theory, be a matter of hating people for liking what they themselves do no like. The market will always go where the money is, or try to, so people who wish Lego today was more like the "comfy" familiar product of their youths are going to be disappointed when they aren't catered to anymore.

I do love the design. Funny thing is they almost didn't use it. The story the director tells is that when George Lucas was visiting the set he really liked the look and pushed them to have it in the movie.

As criticized as he is he's always had an eye for cool shit. Hell, I think they're better looking that the First Order iPod troopers.

I think it's possible that older generations were more familiar with the idea of toy castles and pirates, so those were more popular. Remember how a few years back everyone was all "lol random ninja"? I think that's part of what kept ninjago going. If the pirates theme had been timed closer to Pirates of the Carabean it would have been a bigger seller. I like to blame the lack of middle sized small sets for original IPs not going stronger. Sure one or two polybags a year helps, but all the bigger original lines have several $10-$20 sets every wave. (Friends, City, Ninjago, Creator)

I know what you mean. I've always found it amusing how cowboys are still a Dennis the Menace thing decades after they stopped being popular with the kiddies. Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, The Lone Ranger, etc, are extremely dated by this day and age. Every now and then Hollywood still banks on a temporary revival based on nostalgia but that doesn't always pay off.

You raise an interesting point, though I'm not sure how well it settles with me. Instead of licensing Lego could get by with another traditional toy marketing ploy, the just-distinct-enough-to-not-get-sued product. Instead of making POTC or Star Wars they could make not-POTC and not-Star Wars quasi-knockoffs to cash in on the craze but still be unique. Not like they haven't done that before, and hell the pirates theme in 2015 kinda did that complete with a "Governor's Daughter" fig.

I feel like companies usually do that when they can't get the real licenses. If anything, I'd reckon they'd do better with something like generic fairy tales or fables. Maybe rip off a little Disney and a little Shrek and call it a day.

They work well enough for my purposes with it, too, but I however people use their bricks is fine with me. Still I'd have no problem with a reissue biohazard symbol version of the nuclear hazard guy. Just as long as they do a better version than they did with the variant boxer. It's not bad but why they didn't use more blue in his design when they've already made blue plastic versions for the Olympics I have no clue.

Build like you wanna race

So basically you need to be researching classic race liveries (Martini, Gulf, etc) and how the colours that define them determine what part of the vehicle gets what colour.

And because liveries aren't just for racing teams, you can progress to replicating stuff like logistics or public transport companies, while getting a natural feel for how to build sectorially.

Thanks anon! Here's another shot where you can see a lot of the piping.

All of the stacks are separate (they've been tweaked a bit since I took these) so the piping LOOKS like it connects between levels but they actually just run parallel to each other so you can pop each level apart and the piping all comes with it. The trick is to have it wrap around three sides before it loops back so you can't ever see both ends to tell that it doesn't actually go anywhere.

I' have injago bounty, fishing store, space shuttle, and some other small sets so I have a bit of lego to work with.

My tentative plan is to use a steam/japanese/cyber aesthetic.
I like that greebling with rundown places having rubble and vegetation around. Also the pipes and complex things like air conditioner and satellites and tv spires is neat. Some modern cyber tech nestled in the older nooks and crannies is something I like too.
