Never bought any of the elf sets personally and they've gotten hard to find in my local stores. I'm thinking about buying some of the hair pieces, though. I don't have near enough CMF elves to fill out Santa's sweatshop. Might be time to make my own.

I like to use them for fantasy elves myself. The pale skin and thin, tall bodies make more sense that way. The Elve's hair pieces are overall rather nice.

That's a good all around philosophy, though sadly I've learned that it's often countered by the tiny voice in the back of my head whispering, "If you don't do it now, you might regret it when the set is gone!" That voice can get so damn loud around the time sets are retired and I'm convinced if I keep waiting for clearance I'll miss it and they'll all be gone.

Fun fact: Every set of instructions for every lego set ever is available digitally. The only thing you might miss out on is stickers, because I don't expect the second-hand parts market for bricks to go away. Even stickers you could end up printing yourself if you really want to.

PLUS there's a UCS scale AT-M6 that somebody designed that would be super cool to have instead. You could start saving up your money for that. Or even some other future set that you will love without hesitation, unlike this one where you're trying to be convinced one way or another.

My advice: Set up a klocki fund. Put the money you'd spend on it tomorrow in your klocki fund, and if you still want it in a few months (because it'll definitely be available for a while) then you could get it. If you like the value when you see it on sale, then maybe get it then!

Wow this got long.

TL;DR: Save your money now, spend it in the future when you decide for yourself that you want it, or find something else that you want without having to be convinced.

That's fine - if you have all the pieces and they aren't otherwise in use. You could bricklink or B&P for what you don't have or for the colors you need, but it'll still end up costing you in the long run.

I mean you COULD do it as you said, but honestly I've mostly found looking through old instructions useful for build ideas/inspiration.

Neat! Bums me out a bit that we don't tend to get character packs like that these days. At least they do battlepacks and even Nexo got in on that (never have found any in my local stores, sadly) and not for the main cast (although they've been in plenty of smaller sets like the mechs). Still Monster Fighters, Ultra Agents, Galaxy Squad, etc, have kept certain characters exclusive to expensive sets. Hell, Scooby Doo was especially annoying for that.

Most people sort by type of part. I keep my sorted stuff together by what I was building with it and put that into a zip top bag. Then when I think if what I'd like for the next build, I just think back to what I used those parts on last.

Sorting by color is bad. Harder to find a white 1x2 plate in a sea of white than in a sea of 1x2 plates.

Start sorting by part type/category: brick, plate, slope, jumper plate, tile, stud, technic, etc. If you want you can sort out the printed pieces separately.

When your chose storage bin of choice (plastic bag, sterilite drawer, akro-mils container, cumbox) runs out of space for a certain part category, start sorting it more granularly. Sort the 1x# plates from the 2x# and the larger stuff. Bricks similarly, separate the up and down slopes.

I wouldn't bother labeling unless you get it down to a single part type (Slope, Inverted 33 3 x 2) because you should be able to recognize what kind of parts are in something just by looking. Oh yeah, use transparent bins/drawers/whatever.

Overview of my current method, which I was working on doing with my collection over summer before school hit. And then I died.

These all look a lot more ship-like, while the carrier is kinda boxy, except it also has those curved sections that don't match any of the smaller ships.

I'd take the outer hulls and cant them so the towers are farther apart and the hangar opening would be an upside-down trapezoid.

I just fnished building the space shuttle set. I chose the third blueprint to build, the mini-space base. It was really simple and fun to build, with lots of parts left over which I enjoyed using for some greebling and building some neat addons. I'm gonna post some pics either later tonight or tomorrow.

I really enjoyed this set and I think I'm gonna pick up another, or maybe two more, and build the space car or make my spacebase larger.

Looking through my old Star Wars sets and the newer ones. It's amazing how different some characters like Boba Fett and Grievous look, with new more detailed printing, new molds and everything.
On the other hand Battle Droids look pretty much the same as they did in 1999.

I don't remember the old minifig packs coming partially assembled like this, so I guess they changed the factory process at some point between 1992-1999. Probably something about limiting the child's playchoices to mold their little mind into the TLG-approved playstory or maybe it was just improvements in the robot arms that put the pieces together.

Lots of cool pieces in this, including one of the cowboy soldier hats in dark gray (not bley!), extra goggles, extra trans-neon green visor, standard Rock Raiders helmets in dark gray and true brown, a full sprue of tools, a brown boulder, and lots of other fun stuff.

Faces are a little weird, and I say this as someone who doesn't have any nostalgic attachment to this particular line. I think this was right around the time of the first Spider-Man movie, and you know how distorted those faces were.

i build the remote controlled tracked 'racer' and it's really neat, i only built the sufficient amount so that it would function because soon I am going to build something else on top. It won't be a racer, I am thinkng it will be a delivery vehicle.

I think the ship would be like $75 alone, so they tried to beef it up with the side scene. The model looks beautiful but you get what you pay for when Lego goes for screen accuracy on a speeder (which are usually in the $20-$30 range).
