Getting punched isn’t an inappropriate reaction to calling a woman that. When used to refer to actual female genitals, its just a very crude and low class way to say it, the only worst one being “cooter” in terms of trashiness.
In the UK, cunt is like saying prick. Its an insult and a reference to genitals, and its a bit crude, but nowhere near as bad as in the US. Calling someone a piece of shit is a worse insult than calling someone a cunt. Its also a genderless insult, while in the US its only really a woman who can be a cunt unless you are implying femininity in a male you are insulting.
In the US, fanny means butt. Not butthole, just the cheeks. Calling someone a fanny isn’t much of an insult at all.
In the UK, fanny is pretty much the same as the US version of cunt. A bit less of an insult, but still very rude and very crude. Equivalent to calling someone a “cocksucking piece of fucking shit”, or as a reference to genitals about as crude as “pissflaps” and “fuckslit”.
Thanks to the Cornetto movie trilogy, the word cunt in the US is shifting more towards the UK version.
