I mean they left the lego section 70% empty and unstocked for the entire holiday season until february

I couldn't agree more desu, most sets are fantastic and it's not like Lego stopped doing their own unique themes because of it. Hell, Bionicle and the major overhaul of Technic were both introduced around the same era (late 90s / early 00s), and both of those are some of the most beloved series Lego has put out.

I've actually got all the ones you listed too, I would invest in the Detective's Office and Brick Bank first since they might end up getting discontinued this year (I learned the hard way with Palace Cinema last year).
Assembly Square has my favorite build of the series, it's really great for customizing especially with that little roof kitchen.

So, why did midi scale flop? They've only made two sets in this style, both of them in Star Wars, and both of them were genuinely great builds that benefited a lot from not having to be designed around fitting minifigures into their interiors.The fact that they're compatible with smaller polybag starfighters and that people still make MOCs of ships from the newer films based on this scale makes me think that there's a consumer base for these, but then again, it's not like I do the market research or focus group testing Lego goes through.

Maybe it could have increased the appeal of these sets if they threw in some microfigures?

The tank cost 140.25 including shipping. Set also includes a six dollar custom brickarms machine gun. A custom printed mini-figure and printed tiles, and custom made tank tracks. For the price it was a fucking steal I would buy more but I'm going to source all the parts out first and bricklink a second one before I build it since I already have extra tank treads and an extra brickarms gun so my average cost will be even lower than that per tank.

fuck off noone touches my fucking Lego. A majority of it is in plastic tubes boxed sets while majority of older ones are built and loose figures and parts in my dresser. You have to make your parents know your autistic about your lego and how much they mean to you. Literally throw old clothes and anything else thats years old and junk out but keep the lego so they know your seriously autistic about keeping this one thing but your not autistic enough to keep everything like a hoarder

Fucking took me hours to sort through all these parts in this set and then translate that to my bricklink wanted list but I fucking did it and now I can enjoy the build. I got a few random brickarms guns for free this ones kind of cool its got like an orange tint and needles on top

Maybe I'm just displaying things wrong, but my clips always seem to loosen and crack. It happened on my Skull slicer with his Chain thing, 2 Star Wars Battle Droids absolutely got rekt and my Dimensions Bionic Steed had the clip to it's stand deteriorate and it fell and almost had it shatter to pieces. Why does this happen and how can I prevent it? Will answer any questions necessary.

Lego plastic quality's gone to shit, it's just most apparent on clips, flags and that sort of fragile piece. Some colors are weaker than others, with dark red and reddish brown the worst of all. Not much you can do about it really.

There's some stuff that works in LDD that doesn't in real life and a few even found their way into official sets.
The way the ammo/weapon holders on some of the Bionicle G2 sets attach for example doesn't actually work properly on the real sets and puts stress on the pin while in LDD you can attach them just fine since the axle just clips through the bone.

Right now, I'm actually doubting the future of Lego having variety in themes because so many great original action themes are getting cancelled. I'm not really sure what else they could try. A steampunk Western theme that will also fail because it's competing with Ninjago? Ninjago's an awesome theme, it's just that less normies want to buy a similarly formatted theme or worse, have it be replaced by another theme. Chima caught backlash in the beginning because of rumors that Ninjago was supposed to retire and be replaced with it. Back in the day you had Space, Castle, Pirates, Aquazone, etc. all side by side and people bought some of everything. Now it's like tastes are consolidated a lot more.

If you could create an official new, original Lego theme. What would you want? I want a huge series of the Romans and the Gauls and the like. The biggest piece being something like the Colosseum, with dozens of minifig spectators, tigers, gladiators, etc. Then smaller sets like Carriage racing, or a set that focuses entirely on a shield wall formation

Just stop with mixing themes together and do something untouched for once that doesn't clash with existing themes.
A prehistoric theme, no matter if semi-accurate or silly like the Flintstones, a theme based on ancient Rome, Greece or their mythology, a circus theme, one based on cryptid-hunters... just take a look at some the CMFs and make a theme out of theme - it doesn't need to be a years-long evergreen one but just something fresh that breaks up the monotony.

I would love to see nexo knights reimagined with magic replacing technology and power rangers style baddies.

Minifigs would battle minifigs. The enemies would have cheesy trope themes. Sets would be like a crab themed villain fig and a brick built giant enemy crab, and the yellow knight and his summoned brick built magical bull. Each color would be a different fantasy class, green ranger, red wizard etc. with an animal and weapon associated with it like nexo knights.

Instead of robots there would be all manner of fantasy creatures: dragons, elementals, golems. Most importantly there would be no vehicles. Only magical built up creatures/constructs and terrain/locations in a somewhat similar vein to some of the elves sets.

Close, but instead of crab inspired mechs it would be a giant crab, or moth or what have you. The idea being that the baddies are one offs and can be as over the top as needed to just make cool shit. If they want to make a crystal golem or a treant thats on fire they can. No fighter jets, cars with drills, or motorcycles.

Honestly I would settle for a theme that is just those sets from TLNM. The sea creature themed vehicles and mechs were some of the most creative sets in years.

Right now I wish NK stayed but wasn't a Ninjago re-skin, and instead was a biiit more serious, with more grey for the castle fags, and space vehicles for space fags, while keeping the style. It would of worked better if it was "this was a medieval world and suddenly space technology came, so a lot of things are just medieval things with space tech poorly attached to them'.

I don't particularly care for Castle and Space myself but I think if NK had been handed better it could of actually fulfilled both niches, it was a pretty good theme and i'm sad it's dead.

Otherwise, what I would personally like would be an American Conquest theme, but from a business perspective, something based off Space or oceans worlds would work better, that way you can have big vehicle sets that also act as locations, you know, with most of the action and stories taking place inside of them.

You could do a chariot, a boat, a battering ram of some kind. It doesn't have to be super realistic.
And an affordable Colosseum could work if the set was just a section of seating with a spectator, a gladiator, and a monster for the gladiator to fight.
Put a small curve in the seating and let people buy a ton of them if they want a full arena.

There are a few different ideas that could work, but the one I want the most would be sets where you could build custom robots. Think Metabots or LBX or other things like that. You have come in a great time actually. Lego has a line out now that are boxes with some themes to them. Yo udon't have to build what the theme is, but they give you a nice little Idea's book that you can build with the pieces in the box, or use the box as sort of a booster to your already collected pieces.

How much would you guys consider a custom printed Lego to be worth? I see some 6 dollars torso assemblies with printing that I like but if I want to get 5 of them I'm paying 30 dollars before tax and shipping and if I want 10 I'm looking at 60 bucks and I still have to come up with matching leg assemblies and heads.

Planes, trains, and automobiles... I never stuck my Santa Fe stickers so they must be somewhere around here. Now I want to build a huge train layout. Actually, I think I've ordered off of BrickLink once many years ago.

A little backstory for the nay sayers...

I got my 1st sets probably when I was maybe 5 or 6. Was always ADD about my toys. Built models (the likes of Revel etc.) that took forever to get perfect. I always went back to Lego because I could always rebuild and improve.

FF to junior high and girls. Lego gets put away. (1st Dark Age)

Go to college and find a group of nerds that are into this stuff. Mindstorms was not even out yet. Hang with them and buy a few sets and have fun while away at college.

Graduate. (2nd Dark Age) Send totes of stuff back home to parents including Lego.

Life. Work / Career... Meet someone, get a place, have a daughter who is sorta into Barbies but I get her a Lego set anyway. She sees how dad will play with Lego with her. Buy tons of Lego. This is around the year 2000-2002 if I remember correctly. Anything she wants out of Lego catalog, Ebay, etc. Buy more stuff for me as well. Original Star Wars Line (Before it went all Grey) Castle stuff, Trains, you name it Dad buys it for her.

Kid grows out of the Lego. :-( (3rd Dark Age)

Years later. Parents getting divorced, selling house. Mom comes by with a truck full of my stuff from my youth. (Including the Lego and other toys.) Just put it in the junk room in the semi finished basement and forget about it.

About 2 years ago see a Creator Modular & go "Wow, Lego has come a long way." Get catalog and order up what I can & break out the stuff my kid & I used to play with.

Start buying up on Craigslist and other local finds. Have hundreds of pounds... It's out of control now that I have a nice income and a big house. Start building my own Modular Mocs for my city but just during the winter.

Find Lego/General and post a few pics. Make friends. :-)

Spring cleaning this week. Find Lego.

Let's argue about tiles, panels, slopes and "studless" parts in general, /lg/. Should you use them whenever possible or should they be entirely avoided instead? Do you think Lego models should aspire to be as smooth as baby's bottom or is it an insult to the klocki aesthetic to deliberately hide the studs in most surfaces?

I don't mind studs nor anti-studs, I am more concerned about the design having a clear shape and nice playability desu. I think it's cool modern LEGO sets have neat play features and show no anti-studs, but I wish they didn't sacrificed interior space for that, even in big models.

Older sets always had at least a small space for figs on the inside.

You might want to pick up a cheap ultrasonic cleaner, $20-30 range. I use one for Lego. Parts come out clean as brand new, it's safe on prints and the one time I put stickered parts in, they made it out okay.

I keep things studded or smooth depending on both what i'm going for aesthetically and their functionally.

I like to build cars, so some level of smooth curvature and 'aerodynamic feel' i try to pursue.
I like studs so i can securely place props, furniture and figures and stuff. Rough studded areas work great for like dirt, sand or grass. It can also give the illusion of a slightly raised surfaces or curvature. The roofs of my cars are generally studded in the middle four rows of studs. Both because it makes the roof look less flat and because i like attaching things to the roofs of my cars.
The reason i tiled and jumpered off my sidewalks (despite liking studs for placing things) is that i like to have some organic extra posing options. When you place a figure on one studs and can alternate between what leg it connects to, and you can place it diagonally, it creates a lot of options for dynamic posing.

So in the end i work way more smooth than i used to, but have no hard rules or anything. I like it when i place older sets and builds next to my newer ones and the studded and more simple techniques almost make classic space rovers and such look like 'vintage design' in-universe.

I think i had a trike very similar to the green one. I really like bikes, but it always bothered me i didn't had figures to ride them. My scuba-slizer didn't really fit.
I still stick to the old-style minifigure motorcycleframe. Not only do they scale really well, i have a trauma/extra appreciation for them since i accidentally flushed a police motorcyle down the toilet of a restaurant when i was little.

So, I really want to get pic related purely out of love for Battlefront 2, but it seems like a lot of people hate this set. Why is that, /lg/? Is there something particularly wrong with it that doesn't justify a purchase?

A common complaint I hear is that it's substantially smaller than the older 2008 version but wasn't that one actually somewhat oversized? The minifigs next to this one look on scale with how I remember it from the game, at the very least.

Not sure what scale you're working with, but there's several options.
You have the train style sliding doors that you set into the 'modified plate with rail' style pieces. Those trail doors are larger pieces, but are a very thin solution.
You also have a larger variant where you can place an entire 1 stud wide wall into the rail.

A second style you might experiment with are garagedoors pieces. Where you maybe slide the wall wrapped up over the roof, or used on it's side in a more traditional way.
This isn't gonna work nicely in your standard 6-wide build though.

Let me tell you why I buy Lepin and would highly suggest buying Lepin in your scenario. You are dealing with fake Lego but you are dealing with real instructions. You can buy lepin set and catalog all the parts on bricklink or photo the instructions to someone who is willing to catalog a part list. Afterwards you can enjoy the set without having to worry about fake Lego.

Luckily here in the states I haven't had to deal with any Lepin mixed in with my CL finds. I do find a ton of MegaBlocks and other toys though. I've got about 13 Pounds of Mega that I can't unload anywhere... Locally or online. :-( I'd hate to throw it all away but i'm just not going to use it.

As for CL... It's hit or miss. What irks me is people post stuff and never get back to you and the listing stays up for weeks or even over a month. I find that if you hit them within 24 hours of the posting you have a better chance at it.

Why would you want to buy a licensed set over a toy of the same thing? Like I could get a Hulkbuster figure with better articulation or a Millenium Falcon that looks closer to how the actual ship does but I gravitate towards Lego sets and I can't explain it. How do you guys even drink till you "can't remember the last night"? I drink two beers and I'm running to the bathroom to piss for the next 5 hours on every half hour. I feel slightly buzzed yes but after a couple hours it I sober up. How much do you drink? Do you just deal with the piss? As for blackouts, i was mostly kidding. But they have happened in social occassions that were a little too fun and went on for a little too long. Think, drinks after an exam. Then going to a bar, then to a party, then another .etc .etc.
On rare occassions you just want to get hammered for the heck of it.

I understand why you removed the headlights but I kind of prefer the mech with them, since without them, it looks a bit naked in the shoulder area. Really like that mining version though.

Also, I've worked on giving this one more design cues from Ice Planet so I've used several pièces from the original line-up. It feels a bit more like I've added my touch and not just copy-pasted your design.

As far as klocki goes; I've on a few occasions left pieces laying around while friends were over drinking, and while nobody puked, the shit that was built was awesomely bizarre. So in conclusion bricks and booze do mix ladies and gentlemen. You just get odd results.

I'm always fully aware of what I'm doing when I'm drinking beer. (Which is probably every day). No matter how much, beer doesn't black me out anymore. Last time I was well over 10 beers I sorted out all my minifigs in crates. Legs in one, arms in another, hands in a tiny crate, heads in a tiny crate, and bodies in a normal crate. Then more beer ensued, and I put all the minifigs back together. I had one of these livestreams on in the background

Sounds like you have high metabolism. I have it too. The key to not pissing so much is drinking hard alcohol instead of something that contains a lot of water like beer. But even then, you might not get blackout drunk. The most I achieved was feeling like my head was spinning 360 and I was maniacally laughing for 30 minutes straight.

I had so much lego as a child. So many sets awesome sets from blacktron, iceplanet, pirates, fantasy, and etc. Ice Planet was always my favorite though. I even had an issue of a lego magazine with me in it. Standing proudly next to my contest runner up which was the ugliest space pirate ship you would ever see. Lego was my shit when I was a kid... Moved out like we all do. Had to leave the lego behind for a bit because it was literally 3 giant totes worth of stuff. I even kept EVERY god damn instruction booklet. My parents had to take in my sister while I was away. She had 3 boys. They were given all my lego without my knowledge. I return home for them to find them completely gone. My mom told me that they ending up having to throw away a lot of it. Was damaged. At one point one of the boys filled up an entire tote of lego with water and soda/juice and just left it. Others were lost outside. Occasionally I will still go out to help her with yardwork and will dig up lego pieces... Shit fucking hurts man. My kid could have had a fucking treasure trove of classic lego to enjoy and build with, but it is all gone because my shit sister and stupid parents.

Shit hurts. I just want to go on an ebay buying spree and drop tons of cash on Ice planet and pirates just to sooth my aching soul....

If you're interested in rebuilding your collection, there's these websites called Brickset and Bricklink. Brickset has extensive database, and since you seem to know the themes, you can easily search for the set number. Then search with that set number from Bricklink, and pick a seller that has it priced reasonably

My sisters kids are the destroyers of toys. It wasn't just lego they murdered. It was pretty much everything I had left behind. There are untold amounts of pieces and bits just sprinkled all over my moms property. When I was a kid I treated my shit like gold. They just don't give two shits about anything.

What you should do is buy a large ebay bulk lot just to build up your parts library, and then use bricklink to get some specific parts like trans-neon orange windscreens, Blacktron I minifigs, etc.
