I hope Lego brings out a new Creative train set out soon, one in the same vein as the Horizon Express and Emerald Night.
The new train sets the past 10 years have been pretty meh, especially the passenger trains. Huge molded fronts and all. And what the fuck is wrong with opening train doors, Lego?

So how many new Harry Potter sets will they do in total? And how many more add-ons will they have the castle?

I saw some speculation earlier that they might 2 sets per-school year. I'm just hoping they give us enough stuff to complete the full Hogwarts.

These non-SW licensed lines are always way to short and small. I wonder if the D2C Hogwarts is supposed to compliment the castle or be a replacement. Always imagine that if they did a D2C Hogwarts that the great Hall would be its center piece so I wonder how it would look like if it's complimentary.

To me it feels like the D2C is also supposed to cover 4-7 but they included Snape in two sets, Hermione in every single one. After seeing the 99,99 Hogwarts I thought they would try giving us more random characters so reusing so much so soon makes me think and hope that we will get 3 years and hopefully 6 waves, not just 3 waves and a D2C.

Great find! How much did you pay?

The red weight is from a boat and yes Authentic Lego. The white gear I have in blue, grey, and white so yes real Lego again.

As for the stickers. Ohh that's a tough one. The hydroP will not be good for the sticker. Is there a way of peeling it? Probably not if it is that old.

Maybe just keep those bricks yellowed for the antique feel.

Congrats on those trees!!! I have quite a few of them.

I bet it's a replacement. Way more detailed than the original from years back, and with different colours, like the roof. I like these roof colours better, they make for better rockets and missiles.

Compare these two Jedi Interceptor sets. They're both at a comparable price point and piece count (Right one has 223 parts at $25, left has 202 parts at $20) They both include Anakin and R2-D2 as the only minifigs.
But the one on the left has a whole other ship, so it feels like a bigger set even though it has fewer parts.

Yeah, it's an interesting crux- part of me totally misses the insane playability that those middle-era thoughtful builds contained, without a single overused stud shooter.

The detail, stability, and scale of the newer sets though... at the cost of stud shooters, and usually one or more completely unnecessary minifig.

I've never really liked Lego's tie craft. They're too black, and the blue is too vibrant. Tie fighters and the like should be primarily a lighter, more neutral blue, with black as the secondary color.

Sir Lord Your Majesty Randy's grandfather willed him a huge spaceship, but Randy forgot about it for a few years so all the crew were skeletons when he finally got around to boarding it for the first time along with Oilius, who was coerced into coming along (this happens a lot). Martyrna was assigned to the ship when her order heard it was going into the reaches of Weirdo Space but she would probably rather be out killing heretics and litterers. Warboss Goldtummy was already on the ship but the the others didn't know about it right away. He actually thinks he's the captain, and through a long series of coincidences neither one of them has ever been in a situation where anyone realizes the conflict. Nobody's really sure what's up with Ambiguosa because she doesn't talk much. They just stopped on a Random Planet in Weirdo Space and then later she(?) was hanging out in the cafetorium.

They all fly around space and go on adventures together.

Older LEGO sets were less detailed.
A lot of people like to point out that modern sets have a lot more parts for the same money, but they tend to leave out that a lot of those extra parts are smaller ones used for extra detail. So I wouldn't be surprised if you are generally getting less plastic per dollar nowadays.

If you like that, that's cool, but when I was a kid I always cared more for the playability than I did for the detail. I'm amazed at how LEGO always used to find room to store mini-figs even inside small crafts.
Non-licensed sets are still pretty good in that regard, but licensed ones have gotten quite a lot smaller and less playable by themselves.

Im 33 and old lego wasnt that good at all. I even stopped caring about it at some point because to me it was a child's toy. Everything was built from typical bricks + wheels.
I came back to lego when i saw how many unique details it had and how many different things you can build now.
If you can build an elephant with 3 blocks and IMAGINE :) that it's an elephant - that's fine.
I would prefer to have more unique details to build a big and cool elephant.

No, it's the first time I bring this up.
I'm 21, i'm not an old man crying about muh nostalgia, LEGO has changed their approach for sets, that's a fact, if you like that, that's ok, I prefered when their sets were bigger, even if it meant they were less detailed.
And yes, things like Ninjago city exists and are new, and I love it, I wish they made sets like that with more frequency, which would probably be doable if they didn't had to put hundreds of 1 stud size pieces for the sake of detail that bulk up the price.

Some sets, yes, non-licensed ones primarily, as I mentioned in my original post. Action features don't make a toy immediately more playable tho, what's a space ship good for if you can't explore it?

eh, he's got a point. Like, opening doors were standard on cars around 1990, some even had working suspension and opening hoods. Compare with Speed Champions where you can swap out hubcaps and that's it.

So, I've asked this before but haven't really made by mind up yet, and will have to do so until next Monday: which Rogue One set should I get? The U-Wing or the Y-Wing?

On one hand, the U-Wing is probably going to be retired soon, and as mentioned in the previous thread, the odds of Lego making another one in the near future aren't all that high despite how cool of a design it is. The proportions of the set are flawed, sure, but there are also simple upgrades to reduce the undercarriage junk and it probably ain't hard to extend the S-foils with a couple of extra pieces. In contrast, the Y-Wing might last for a little longer before being retired, but it would better fit my plan of having it displayed alongside my 2011 Falcon and the upcoming summer X-Wing to keep them as the three main OG "good guy" ships as centerpieces in the limited space I have.

Not at all a starwars expert, disclaimer.
I think the y-wing will get newer iterations at some point, but since it's such an iconic design and that version is really fucking good I think it will reach MAD aftermarket prices. I don't think a lot of people will give a hoot about Rogue one in the future (haven't seen it, but don't remember any hype surrounding it. Haven't heard too positive things about the U-wing in general either).

If the U-wing is out of stock almost and the Y-wing will have some more time on shelves, I'd get the U-wing and then save up for the Y-wing.
But it wouldn't suprise me if the Y-wing will have ton of demand and dissappear quickly.

seconding this. They look good from the side and a faint 3/4 angle, but once you pick it up or look down on them they are like limousines. I make my cars 6-wide too, but make them way shorter (especially the wheelbase) and the cockpit way bigger as to seat two side by side. They look cartoony then but i'd rather cars look and work well with minifigures than that they are very realistically scaled.

The ankles weren't really going to hold up much, and despite the heavy duty ball joint sockets used for the elbows, it wouldn't hold up it's shield too well. My best be is to just start from scratch. I've already disassembled it.

I've got this imformation from an friemd that works at CN. Lego's and Catoon Network's partnership will be even bigger by next year like the one with Dismey that Lego has. By next year and up many CN shows will have Lego sets. PPG is an experiment at this moment to se how this will work.

My grandma actually doesn't mind all that much since she understands that adults can build Lego too (there's one AFOL in my city that has permanent display at local supermarket) but she thinks I should move into something bigger, and not just small system sets. 7649 MT-201 Ultra-Drill Walker, 7707 Striking Venom, 70908 The Scuttler, and 7051 are Lego's other notable non-bipedal mechs, but they're all out of production.

If you like the Water Strider's general aesthetic, you might look into the Ninjago Movie line's other mechs and vehicles.

If it's more the color scheme that appeals to you, the Ultra Agents line had a similar black with transparent blue thing going on.

The first Lego movie was unexpectedly excellent. The sets for the movie were FUCKING KILLER.

Batman and Ninjago were slightly more 'meh', but still with excellent sets.

Didn't actualy get it from an official Lego Store. I was extremaly to see them though (They had all of the Season 9 sets as well as all (two) new Elves sets). I am coming back there today so I will ask about the Ice Dragon Polybag.

PS: Firstbourne has like 8 1x2 Teal plates too as well as that new 1x1 modified plate with a second stud on the side (as well as its inverted version).

Thanks! And I'd love to, but the way I built the colorschemes was around the 3x2 slopes and their prints. So unless there was a dark blue or orange slope that had the other color on it, it wouldn't fit with my little ensemble I cooked up.

First attempt at using my new camera setup. I should retry with different lighting soon. The background now looks more uniform but there were streaks of shadow on the rounded part of the background paper that I had to painstakingly remove.

Not even sure if i posted the revamped version of the original yet, but this is a police livery of an earlier Jeep style car I made quite a while ago. (I was wondering if the anon that made a whole bunch of iteration in LDD of it is still around, that was flattering)
I ditched the suicide-doors for a more outdoor buggy kind of look. The taillights and c-pillars make it look more consistently Jeepy now. And the revamped chassis and rollcage bars from windshield to the c-pillars make this a lot more sturdy to tumble around!

Basically a cardboard box with most of the top, sides and front surfaces cut out. On the floor and back you bend this big piece of thick paper. On the top i attached 'calqueer' paper or some other semi-translucent paper to diffuse the light. One the sides I also have two only partially attached squares of that paper so i can still open them up and put my hand or camera through if i want.

Basically, this gives a nice backdrop and diffuses the light so the shiny plastic doesn't give nuclear white highlights. This is a very cheap way to do it, but it's kind of a big thing to have around if you don't spend the time to make one that can fold in of itself.
Oh and I recommend making it way deeper so the floor plain has more room. I made it a little shallow, so when i have something bigger to photograph it gets tought to get light to shine through the top diffuser and shine on the front of my subject.
The larger your floor/roof surface is, the better you can get an angle of lighting through the top diffuser and get nice light from the front. If the angle of the light through diffuser is very steep, you can get shadows in the face of your subject.

Yeah I understand what you're getting at, It's just that i'm a sucker for super compact builds that are as small and well scaled as possible. My general rule of thumb is that a minifig standing next to it has to be able to look over the hood. No serious off-roading for this one.
While making bigger scaled/lifted cars often feel like a cop-out for myself, I did make an exception for my old monstertruck and this wacky summermobile with working suspension. Wacky should always be worthy of exception.

There are tons of characters, either from the movies or in their generic "evergreen" aesthetic, that could result in some fantastic fully transformable and intricately engineered Lego versions, and much like they could pull off Batman sets based on the classic comics and shows, I don't doubt it would also be possible to make some G1-based sets. Or even Beast Wars ones, how fucking awesome would that be.

Haven't played OW, but surely this means there will be more playsets than vehicleshit? And isn't the roster like 30 characters? Wonder how they'll be split up between sets. But looking at some pics, there's more hairpieces and minifig-scaled robot parts coming, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Also shame that constraction is dead, some characters would look nice in that.

Chances are slim. The shared IPs you use as examples are not owned by either Hasbro or Lego, and the holders dictate what licensees can or cannot do. That's why you don't see Lego making traditional Star Wars action figures or why you don't see Hasbro making Marvel construction sets.

Transformers is owned by Hasbro. They saw an opportunity to make some money in the construction toy market a few years ago. Rather than license Transformers to Lego, they sourced the elements from Korean brand Oxford. There is no way Hasbro and Lego could ever agree to mutually beneficial terms. If Hasbro ever thought they could make money again in building blocks, they would just revive Kre-O or create yet another brand.

I hope so. Only reasonable vehicles would be a payload (maybe with explosion function) and the spawn aircraft thing.
Also I wouldn't be surprised if we get a CMF line

I don't expect a lot from the OW license apart from Brickheadz and constraction stuff. II don't see how the latter is a dead line, hast TLG said something or it's just speculation considering how the SW figures are shelfwarming?

maaaybeee we could get some CMFs considering the alternate skins, but any non-humanoid characters would be left out.

Ideally we could get some vehicleshit/scenery hybrid sets and probably a MEKA (minifig scaled or UCS). Outside of that, I don't have a lot of ideas.

Didn't specifically build this for the thread challenge. Bought the 30499 polybag, and this is just what happened. It uses all the elements except for three round eye tiles and a spare wheel hub.

More or less; it's a Basic figure, which used the same heads as the Basic finger puppets and the same body assemblies as Fabuland. I'm not sure what I want to do with it yet, but it is awfully cute in its own vaguely uncanny way.
