Has anyone got any experience with ordering figures from Mandarake that are described as "has the smell of cigarettes"?
Is it worse if the figure has soft goods parts?
How easy it is it to get rid of cigarette smells?
Is it worth putting up with for a 60% discount on the normal price?

I don't smoke so I don't know.

I don't know about Mandarake, but after ordering some stuff from ebay that smelled of smoke. I set them outside in a mesh tangerine bag for a few days at a time + soaking in a tub of water and dish liquid. Can't even pick up a hint of cigarette smell now.
I don't know how long they were in whatever environment that gave them that smell though. Didn't have soft parts per-say, but both had clear plastic parts. I got both of them with maybe a 20% discount.

I bought some Lego sets that had cigarette smell. Washing them certainly helped, but you won't get rid of the smell 100%.

One thing that does help a lot is if the toys have some cloth pieces (like a cape or in my case the sails for a boat), to just wash them with a little bit of soap. Cloth absorbs smells like a sponge.

I had this happen to me with a small ebay lot recently. I washed the figures with dish soap, then sealed the figures in a container with baking soda for 2 weeks. When I pulled them out, they were better but still some odor. I washed them once more then left them in an open window where they could ventilate in direct sunlight for over a week. The window treatment seemed to really help. By the end I had to put my nose up to the figures and really sniff hard to even get a hint of the odor. I thought they were trashed because the smell was pretty strong when they arrived, all the packing materials and even the box itself reeked. I told the seller and got a generous partial refund. I told them I wasn't going to leave feedback because of the condition of the figures and they offered.

I have pretty successfully gotten cigarette smell off of Lego by bathing them in 50-50 diluted water and white vinegar.
It worked surprisingly well, but those bricks are pretty hard to fuck up. I did leave out all the rubber tires as some anon on the internet told me it could make the rubber disintegrate faster.

So for soft vinyl or rubbery toys i'd advice against that method. As for paint-apps getting damaged by it, the printed pieces are still intact. But more carefully applied high-end collector tier paintjobs might be a different beast entirely to nintendium tier Danish crack.

I don't smoke and cannot fucking stand the smell, even the slightest whiff annoys me to no end. With the Lego I found out about it too late, I didn't plan on their smell. If you aren't absolutely sure you can get it off 100%, I'd strongly advice against if you can though.

Sunlight works to kill bad odor. Direct sunlight for a week isn't going to damage anything other than the bad odor. What triggered you? Or did you just jump at the opportunity to feel superior on an anonymous website?

Got a figma lot off yja. Bad smoke smell. Soda treatment did not work.

It took 3 weeks of soaking in vinegar./ serious sun drying to get the smell out.

SUGMERGE the item in the gallon ziplock bag. Actually, just fill up the entire bag with baking soda until it’s full.

STICK IT IN THE FREEZER. By 3 days the smoke smell should be gone.

For an extra added boost out the bags in the sink and pour vinegar on top of the baking soda. You’re now cleaning your pipes, enjoying a cool science experiment and getting the small out of your weabo dolls

Agree, I hate the smell of the cigarettes. And I hate this smell in our house, but sometimes it appears because my husband smokes. I tried different solution like lemon oil or activated charcoal but it didn't worked. Ionic air purifiers didn't worked too. Then I found this article https://www.damagecontrol-911.com/guide-to-ozone-generator-air-purifiers/ about ozone generators instead of simple air purifiers. I bought this ozone generator and now I can say that it was the best odor removal that I ever had. It needs to work only one hour for total removal of different smell from the room. There some special features that you need to know before using it, but it worth to be used.
