take that "Sissisotilas" if you are going to pick one. It's a good parts pack for more recent pieces if you don't have them from bonkle already, + the cloth parts are cool. It'äs also the only one you won't be ashamed to put on display. Solo has the new shoulder piece mold but doesn't have much else going for him, the collar piece has no connection points so it's useless in mocing. Don't even think about picking up Rey. Get the red guard if you don't have it already.

According to an Instagram user who has been leaking 2019 sets, there will be a new theme coming next year that was abbreviated in the catalog as "AL". There will be at least nine sets in the first wave, and three of them will be priced at $5.99, $14.99 and $19.99.

I'm posting this here because I'm fairly sure that it will be next year's Big Bang theme and I don't think there's a topic for it yet.

Don't get your hopes up for possibly nothing, while the leak itself looks rather legitimate, we have no idea what it even is a leak of, and the guy who posted the video seems to have neither. "confidential AL" is likely a licensed theme, based on lego's use of confidential for previous licensed themes as well in such documents.

Meanwhile the codename for Nexo Knights was just "BB", short for "Big Bang", signifying it was Lego's next big thing. However, it is possible constraction wouldn't get such treatment and thus would be referred with a more standard codename.

All I'm saying, the leak is likely real but it could be just more capeshit.

There are multiple studios having like 20 unannounced movies coming down the pipeline so it could be pretty much anything.

All thing we can do is hope, there's no guarantee we'll get any leaks soon, of whatever the "al" is.

So, what I have here may have been done on various forums for Bionicle stuff, and this is quite ambitious, but I have some ideas about making the Okoto storyline part of Generation 1 as a soft reboot of Bionicle as a whole instead of a hard reboot that we have.

Anybody here have ideas and thoughts to share on integrating Okoto into Spherus Magna? Keep opinions and complaints to a minimum, and I will post my ideas and thoughts if I have a large enough reply pool.

I'm going to give you an interesting idea here.
The okotoans are the same species as agori, they just adopted the "culture" of the Matoran Universe, especially that of the former Island of Mata Nui, explaining their fascination with masks etc. instead of helmets.

Somewhat, but it's actually pretty doable thanks to the Bahrag's revival effects, the speed at which Bohrok fill the field once they get going, and the Va Kaita being Instant Fusion-able tuners. Most of the time you still need to get lucky with a Tahnok Va to get them both in one turn, but since the multiple Bohrok used as material can also get rid of the opponent's stuff with their effects, the end result is usually two nigh-unremovable beaters vs a barren field. I feel it's fair to require a bit of luck for that.
Also note that each of the Bahrag still gets its respective half of the protection effects if its counterpart is in the Pendulum Zone, so you don't necessarily have to summon both in the same turn to reap benefits. But I'm aware that's not worth very much in Gotta Go Fast: The Game.

Good mind reading there, anon. Xyz Kal are planned, and while I doubt using Krana as material would work without some funky graveyard-based summoning condition since they're barely on the field, you just gave me the idea of doing Krana-Kal that way. Now if only Extra Deck space weren't so tight.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your input. Having more opinions really helps in figuring out which of my ideas actually make sense.

Shit, I didn't even think of that. They seem pretty good in that light. For the Kal, I'm thinking of effects based on their powers. So Tahnok has a raigeki effect, Lehvak has a harpies feather duster effect, Nuhvok has gravity bind, and Gahlok has some searching since magnets. I can't think of anything for Pahrak or Kohrak though. And as for the Krana, maybe the Kal could use them when equipped as if they were Xyz material?

Pretty much exactly what I had in mind. I've also got first drafts for the remaining two whose powers don't really have any clear matches with known cards.

Really just my go-to "kill shit really hard" effect. I've noted something similar down for Panrahk's fragmentation power as well, so I'm thinking I still need to come up with a way to differentiate the two a bit more.

The idea here is to combine the ability to destroy things using sonic blasts with the ability to create solid objects out of sound, plus "exploding" those sound objects to cause further damage.

Problem with this is that Krana can't be equipped on Xyz Monsters due to the level restriction. I could just add an "or Rank" to the card text, but I'm not a big fan of how forced that feels, and lore-wise, Bohrok-Kal would really never be piloted by normal Krana since their entire job is to get those working again. Still, something like this might be worth considering if testing eventually reveals that Krana go underused in a Kal-centric deck, so thanks for the suggestion.

So far, on Okoto being part of Spherus Magna, I have to agree about timeframe issues needing some tweaking to be feasible.

Also, in regards to the locals on Okoto, I have them to be Agori and Matoran who wanted to start new lives, away from the conflicts of Toa and Great Beings as hinted and then dropped in G1. These folks wanted to distance from the conflict so much they willingly got rebuilt into identical bodies, with the difference between Agori and Matoran being the ratio of mechanical and biological components before they rebuilt.

As for Ekimu and the Mask of Creation, I will be posting more detail once I finish elaborating on the timeframe and other details.

There was some potential, but in the end it was an absolute disaster. Nothing makes this more clear to me than the interview with Ryder Windham where it's stated that the lore Lego had prepared was so incredibly half-assed that he couldn't even have properly written a 100-something page book for kids if he hadn't gotten some issues like the nameless protectors fixed first. I did enjoy some of the stories we got in various media, but the depth behind all of it that made G1 so great simply wasn't there.

Both versions of the Toa were great, but as you said, there wasn't much to set the Uniters apart from the Masters as a whole. Personally, I prefer the Uniters mostly because of the combination gimmick with the creatures, which might just be one of my favourite play features in either generation. Umarak the Hunter was also great and easily the best villain set, though that's not a huge feat since the summer waves were generally meh. Still, it was all in all a solid lineup that didn't deserve being handled this poorly.

I always imagined that the mask makers were former Great beings, and the protectors are diminished Glatorians (or perhaps Element Lords?), while the general villagers are agori, stripped of their metal implants.

Also, the Makuta species was named after the great being, since they were to be ambitious and to have negative feelings, like the great being called Makuta. Also, I believe the toa sacrifice themselves near the defunct Red star and orbit as balls of pure protodermis.

I'm also making a story idea that basically connects the G1 and G2 story together: Basically, the Great Spirit robot had a spare miniature body in the event the core processor was to be fatally damaged. Of course, the systems registered Teridax's antidermic essence as a "soul" and planted it in a body. He'd basically kick ass and all that shit, and even make a deal with Velika and anthropomorphized Energized Protodermis to get a new robot body, but Velika would trick him and leave him to fight Takanuva to the death. Eventually, Velika would shut down and die, and the remaining great beings would fight the protodermis that stripped their powers and armor.

Where Okoto is pretty simple within my imagining: a distant island that is some kios aways from the major archipelagos of Aqua Magna, the Great Ocean. As a result of this isolation from the rest of Spherus Magna the Okotans are some of the last people to receive
any updates on the planet's condition, but compensated by crafting some of the finest boats and ships Spherus Magna has witnessed, capable of travelling long distances and enduring harsh waters unlike that found in the Matoran Universe.

As for who Ekimu is in G1 Okoto, he is a Matoran mask-maker from Artakha's island, who Artakha deemed to be one of the best mask-makers on the island, comparable to Vakama and Nuhrii of Metru Nui. So much so he gave Ekimu the chance to craft a duplicate Great Mask of Creation with Ekimu's own design than Artakha's, and an island with whatever attached resources to help with making the Great Mask. In return Ekimu gets to choose who to accompany him to Okoto, with many of them bringing their families and friends along to settle the island and eventually livining there. The Rebuilding was an event a few months down the colonising line in which Ekimu and some Artakha natives receiving a set of instructions from Artakha as a housewarming gift to make Okoto living more comfortable and easier to work.

Will post more about Umarak and who the Okotans face against later.

I bought this Barbie a few months back. He is pretty much jap ccbs. An articulated skeleton on which you snap the armor shells. Everything about it blows bonkles out of the water. The design, the articulation (toes, waist, double neck and double shoulders), the detail, the plastic quality, the coverage. Even the engineering behind the pieces is a thing of beauty. You barely need a knife to cut the pieces, which have zero mold lines. No paint of glue required.
The set can be described as nothing other than a masterpiece.

The scale is 1/144, a universal model scale unlike Games Workshop's. This means you can display it along or kitbash it with legit model kits. But the real catch here is it's price. It costs 20€, a little under Master Tahu. It's better in everything and was made in Japan where production costs are higher than LEGO's chinese sweatshops.

As for bonkles, I suggest you look up video reviews. I don't know your tastes but I think the Toa Metru, Brutaka, Ekimu (the large one with the blue mask) and Umarak the Hunter are considered good by most people. You can piece them together from bricklink for cheaper than buying them complete.

The gunpla generals are literally filled to the brim with elitist that want gunpla to have the same respect other model brands have when it's pretty clearly a very different hobby. If Bandai wanted every last person to paint their model kits then they wouldn't be pre-colored on the runners and come with stickers. The whole appeal of gunpla compared to other model kits is that they're satisfying right out of the box. They're closer to a buildable figure than a model kit but for some it's hard to get their minds around that.

It is my first gupla. I got it by chance and there aren't any stores selling them in my city. For now it's irreplacable to me so I don't want to do anything permanent to me. It's missing pieces because much as I like Lupus, it strongly reminds me of God Gundam and I prefer the Barbie's first form (that wasn't available). I posted on /toy/'s gupla general the day I bought and the day I built it. They were alright and informative.

Constraction probably won't be back for a while but what kind of style would you like to see it in when it does? With Ninjago firmly holding sentai and mechs hostage I think a toku system/constraction hybrid theme could carve out its own identity against Ninjago and Star Wars. Bonus points if it had a cyber-organic style like Kamen Rider or Guyver.

Well, I had to make a series of molds for the masks of water so that I could produce them at a decent rate, since it takes up to 3 days for a transparent piece to cure.

Haven't posted here in a very long time, I'm a little surprised that this general is even still around. It makes me glad though.
Anyway, I found these two lovely fellows yesterday at a thrift-store and paid 50 cents for the both of them.
Lewa is missing a sword and a shoulder pad, and the connecting pin for his left arm is a newer blue one instead of black.
The hands of the little guy (whose name I do not know, please help) are also newer pieces with the blue-ish gray instead of the older color.
So they're not quite perfect, but still this is the best Bionicle deal I've ever gotten.

No you imbeciles, it has absolutely fuck-all to do with human existence. The only reason Bionicle was ever successful enough to even merit this reboot was because in the beginning the people at Templar knew better, and gave us actual characters with plausible day-to-day lives, instead of the barebones "Pokemon with masks" story structure the original team planned.

Purely in terms of "plot content", the Ta-Koro section of the MNOG simply presents the basic layout of the 2001 (and 2015) story as given by any promotional blurb. The encounter between the Toa (the alleged "hero" with the "journey") and the villagers sees them attack each other on sight, the Captain of the Guard makes it clear that as far as he's concerned the arrival of the Toa is just another variable in the campaign against the Makuta he's been fighting for the past zillion years, and we even get to see how constantly living with the Makuta has affected the islanders' sense of aesthetics. What we have here is less focus on the "hero", and more focus on making the world itself interesting-come to think of it, that's exactly what made Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and The Matrix so popular too.

Even if Bioncle does come back someday with "deeper" lore like G1's, I doubt we'll get something with the quality of the best of G1, because this "Star Wars was great because Luke was the blandest archetype of 'em all" bullshit is so widespread that even if the story didn't exist to sell toys the people in charge wouldn't be able to figure out what made it work.

Start with the Mata Nui Online Game. This is the best way to begin, bar none.

Honestly, losing yourself in wiki pages isn't a terrible way to go if you just want to immerse yourself in the expanse of it all. It can be fun and bewildering. I do it all the time.

Yes. They built on the Story Team's groundwork, but probably no one on the team, or in the whole of Lego for that matter, expected the lore to take off as it did. Remember, they were banking on the PC game, and it's partially due to happenstance that Templar's stuff became as influential as it did. Same for the mystical tone. It wasn't planned.

I agree, start with the MNOG, then go through the comics and novels and watch or read tangential media on the side, online episodes, promo clips, short stories. Just know that there's a ton of non-canon material to ignore (basically all the games aside from MNOG I and II), and the early stories were often contradictory. There is still no fully complete and canon way to get the 2001 story, you gotta piece it together from fragments from different sources, then consult the wiki to fill in the blanks.

I you want the full experience and further story context, I also advise taking a look at the early promo CDs and reading the extra magazine pages alongside the comics. These are up on BioMedia. The atmosphere, the visuals, the sounds and the voices of the narrators were major hooks for people back in the day, especially since the story was so flat early on. It was more about exploration and getting to know the setting, which the MNOG, the promo CDs and the magazines excelled at. The comics, books and movies just breeze through the story and often leave out crucial bits, expecting that you'd already be familiar with the basics.

That's the thing. '01 had very little story. It just milked the hell out of the environment and built up the world around the sets. G2 focused too much on nothing characters instead. People say the story was too thin, but maybe the problem is that it had too much, not too little. The biggest issue with G2 was a lack of world building and they should have fleshed out the setting before even introducing the Mask Maker legend the cause for how Okoto is.

I don't really care that it's dead. There is plenty of Bionicle media for me to discover and consume, so as far as I'm concerned it's still alive for me.
I have loads of Bionicle from 10 years, even 15+ years ago. Even though I've long stopped playing with them, I never exactly "grew out" of Bionicle or totally lost interest as I did other toys. Maybe it was the aesthetic, but I just think Bionicle is really neat and it stuck with me.
More to the point, I love world-building and universe lore in all various franchises, and am always looking for more to get into. So I figured the Bionicle world was a great opportunity to please my autism, plus it would "connect the bridge" between my childhood and adulthood as I never got too deep into the lore as a kid.

I've dusted all of the moving assemblies thoroughly. It's still clicking at the certain point and I have to excessively force the knobs to properly deploy the Midaks. I'm better off just pulling open the panels by hand.

I feel the same. I loved both Legos and Bionicles as a kid (and still do), but it was really jarring to see Bionicle in tiny minifigure form. Having little Bionicle playsets is the antithesis of what Bionicle always was (big customizable action figures), and I'm willing to bet it sold poorly which is why we've never seen more of the same. So yeah. It's really weird, but a decade later I can see the novelty of it and think it's kinda neat in retrospect.

Gotta say, these things are way more fun to mess around with than I expected they would be. Have both motors working fine, and one controller. Frustratingly, the second seems to have both left buttons reading as "forward," not sure how I'll approach that fix. Cleaned the PCB inside with rubbing alcohol. Doesn't appear to have any noticeable defects. Might try reflowing some of the solder points if they can be, otherwise I imagine I'll just roll with the one working controller. The fact that I can control bother Manas at the same time is a great little feature.

Not the anon you replied to but his arms having 0 white in them sans the sword I feel is the problem. Replace the gray mata hands in the biceps for white or the left forearm with a white limb piece and it'd look better.

I mean the whole point was to replicate the Mata aesthetic and their arms were entirely secondary color with black shoulders so that's pretty much what I was going for.

Also because dark grey is one of the most abundant colors so I just used that lol

I've been trying to spruce up an old MOC of mine, and now I'm on the ankles. I'm just gonna post the different variations sequentially, but the short of it is that I want extra articulation near the foot, but haven't been able to make anything I'm satisfied with looks- or posability-wise. He's still pretty janky up top, so he's wobbly, and I don't think I could integrate a piston nicely.

If anyone has a design suggestion using exclusively G1 parts I'd appreciate it. I've only got access to G1 sets.

Last one, and the best articulation-wise, but it looks really thin and puts the connection further back on the foot than I want. The bulk of the two spring-based ones I posted look way nicer to me, and even the original design for all its stiffness still looks better than this ball-joint jank.

Going to need to update this. Lot changed in a short time. Managed to get not only the Manas, but I have Muaka and Kane-ra coming in today (with what looks to be bits of Nui-Jaga included as well).
For you guys looking for these kinds of sets, keep checking eBay, local ads, anything. Good deals are infrequent but you really can find what you want with enough patience.

I'll post the whole rahi collection so far. Had the Tarakava for a few years, Manas were from last week, and as it turns out with today's package, not only were Muaka and Kane-ra complete, but there was a complete set of Nui-Jaga with them. Each for absurd deals, each absolutely worth it.

Man I remember those RC Rahi (can't remember their name though). Toys R Us had a thing where you could win a set if you won fights with them. I got a loss because the kid I was playing against knocked the masks off mine after he already lost. No idea why he was given the win to move to the next round instead. Reboot is a total reboot, ignoring what came before. According to that recent leak, the creators hinted at a possible connection to G1 via the Mask of Time, but they never intended to fully elaborate on that. It was basically an opening to let fans decide if they wanted to connect the two canons or not. So if you want, you can imagine that they're somehow connected. If you don't want to, then you don't have to.
