Fuck off, 30 year-old boomer. Not everyone is either filthy rich or old enough of a collector to have the exact amount of parts necessary to perfectly execute their vision on hand. Building MOCs in LDD-based programs and then ordering the parts off BrickLink if you really liked the result is the way to go.

Then I guess it's more of an LDD problem, your MOC really isn't too far off but the lack of any texture or dynamic lighting in the software just makes the central section look like a giant dull grey block. Maybe it could look better if you build it IRL? And there's also still some extra detail you could add under the windows.

I'm still looking for one of those legs for my own waif outfits lq. But it actually matches the hair of who its for in colour so i'm gonna keep it.

Those Ideas books are pretty nice. I have a bunch of them and they got adult Lego fans to make some models, but they were told to not make their models too "technical" or complicated. It's nice to see some nice looking models that still try to keep it simple with mostly straightforward techniques.

9/11 is my birthday.
I built the jurassic park indoraptor rampage at the estate set this morning. Really neat set. The dinosaur figures are way more detailed than I imagined. Two aspects from the entire build itself that I thoroughly enjoyed were:

- building the fossil triceratops skeleton display. First and foremost I just happen to love those types of displays and in the future I want to purchase more if they are available. Secondly, the build itself was just... Incredible. It was the kind of build where I didn't know what bricks were adding up to what, and every brick I added changed it until it got to a point where it blossomed into a skull, the main core component. I love that kind of building experience. It also involved some very ingenious design which is sort of part and parcel with such an experience. Talking about such experiences leads me to the build I've been putting together for the last few hours on and off:

The lego Statue of Liberty.
I'm almost complete and I am absolutely stoked at the experience of building this set so far. It's such a perfect meld of dynamic design, routine and repetition, brilliant unique ingenious design concepts and mechanisms to achieve the final concept, and sheer aesthetic beauty and genuine fun factor abounds. The aspect of this build, so far, that has completely opened my eyes to a whole new aspect of lego building has been the use of "secondary" aspects of the connections on the lego pieces and furthermore the purposeful change between one set block-based equation into another set block-based equation. I'm not sure if there are any official terms for what I am trying to describe, but basically an example is moving from a regular four dotted lego cube (placing two 1x2 planks with 1 dot on top of each unto the cube) then using those two dots to connect to the 'secondary' connection characteristics of lego pieces and thus changing the set block equation entirely. It's so fkin beautiful to do.

i forgot to mention the second aspect of the jurassic set I really enjoyed - the windows! More specifically, the fucken superb function they made that makes the windows 'pop' into their place when pushed into - and holy shit it's such a satisfying 'click' when they lock into place, without much pressure at all, yet they are firmly in place, and they are also easy to pop out with gentle pressure. This design is so fucking outside the box it blows my mind. It's so damn GOOD too coz it looks aesthetically fantastic and it's FUN

It also came with this lovely note and sweets.
I really like the Kitkat! (It smelled amazing the most, exactly like this childrens toothpaste i used to have as a 4yo called Blendi. It was weird ride of nostalgia)

Also tried one of those Super Cola's and my entire body flinched because of how fucking sour and intense that cola taste was. What the fuck was that about, you trying to kill me?

But most of all I thought it was amazing to just receive an anons moc to hold in my hands. Not only was this a cool prize for winning Lego, but fellow lego (and lego car) autists sharing things they're crazy about. This thing isn't going anywhere.

I suggest you to build old castle stuff using new pieces by yourself - it will be much cheaper as they dont have complicated pieces.
I build that Majisto house (with some mods) using pieces I had.

They're pretty fantastic. Once I get all of them, I'm not sure if I want to go for Fright Knights or Forestmen as my next focus. Fright Knights are just neat(and that castle omg) but Forestmen look more like civilians which is nice.

Oh, I went a bit excessive with the SW ones that came out 2 weeks ago, I got 174/272 with 108 swaps. Trying to find someone who might wanna trade/buy my swaps. Though seeing how narrow it is makes me want to build a version twice as wide. With some hovercar engines in place of the wheels. It's already got headlights and turn signals for some reason.

The first good Lego mecha, for one. The modularity between sets was also fantastic. You could split most of the sets apart into modules that could recombine with others into who knows what. The Martians were unique figures and honestly just looked cool at the time. Then you add things like how Mars was everywhere at the time, and you had a perfect storm for a theme. The lack of conflict like >>7154112 pointed out was also a plus. I would love for more of those, it changes the status quo and makes for a better theme if you ask me. Overall though it was just unlike any other Lego theme at the time and still stands as fairly unique.

So, I made a thing. It's based on a real car, but open-topped because trying to fit in a minifig at this scale into a coupe shape would be difficult.

Something had bugged me about the fire station and I finally figured it out. While all the previous winter village sets have been public locations like a various stores, a train station, or town square, this one is more of a private location. Except for school tours a fire station really isn't a public venue. Now I'm not saying it's bad by any means, it just struck me as a bit off. It will be a good addition to anyone's winter village but because of it's more private setting I don't think it would work as a stand alone.

Been working on this big black hoverklocki since I got a big garage sale haul that included some 4x6 curved slopes, so I smoothed out the roof of the cab, and also cleaned up the airscoop mounting to give it a more arced profile that follows the arc of the thruster mounts beneath it pretty closely. Added some fins to the guards above the front thrusters to break up the flat surface, and cleaned up the snooper array on the roof as well.

Not visible, but I also removed a pair of boat studs from the underside because I realized they were causing that 2x4 space mudguard on the underside of the grille to be slightly out of clutch so now it looks straight in profile.

There's just so few sets that come with not-knights/wizards/etc. and I don't really want to mix in newer castle civilians. Forestmen kinda fit that niche, it's not perfect but it's better than nothing. 6077 and 6071 are nice. But, Dragon Masters are first, so who knows what I'll end up going for next.

This is genuinely one of the worst Star Wars sets ever produced. Just look at the shape of this thing!
The design is mind boggling!
If Lego wanted to make it a playset then why didn't they just do it Death Star style? Could have made it more compact with multiple levels so it does't take up so much space, plus it would have been more accurate than just 4 random rooms slapped together.
This is just... ugh. So much wasted space on this awkward shape and impossible to display on a shelf.

I have literally the most light gray bricks. The hosing to connect into the ship is a nice idea, I have way longer ones that could wrap around and connect into the hull.

Also what are the general opinions on this type of design for the front "windshield" of the ship? This is strictly scaffolding for stability while I test things out but I want to try a front that sort of angles in on itself.

At the very least because the printing lasts, doesn't get as dirty and if it's fucked up you can go to sleep knowing it wasn't your fault.
