So I've never been a fan of Harry Potter, but after watching a speed build, is this not awesome? I've been looking for a big building I can just walk into the store and purchase, and I think this tops the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Do you guys ever check your local thrift stores for Lego?
I picked these up for $15 a box. I wonder if he was a builder too since they are sorted by color and you don't really see that with Lego at thrift stores.
You gotta wash them and then sort out the broken Lego parts, the ruined Lego parts, the Megabloks parts, the random toy parts, and then the garbage, but this still seems like a great value since it looks like he had a big collection with older and newer sets.

Im really curious what new classic line will bring us. All sets were good to great. Shame they dont seem to sell so well compared to creator.

Yeah, no. I hate minidolls and the buildable creatures included. I already have a lot of colourful elements, but what I need is quantity, particularly lots of windows, and I am interested in brick yellow. Sorry, but I'd like a proper castle. The architecture in the Great Hall is much better, but I probably wouldn't get it. I'll probably just cop some techniques and start pricing out an order for some parts.

I have very little use for much of this. Elves and Nexo Knights are two of my least favourite themes. I'd rather spend my money on infinite X-Wing recolours.

Why didn't the "wizards" just cast themselves out of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

They stopped giving them out as soon as the double vip promo started, if they had any still left. Don't know if it's the same situation down under but it seems the supply wasn't as great as normal, the solo one didn't last as long as they usually do.

about 9 hours ago I checked, like I put the items I wanted to buy in my cart, and it turned up. I decided not to purchase it before bed and I'd purchase it in the morning. But when I went to the checkout this morning, it's not there. Such a shame, I've never gotten in time for a lego promo.

I have an all white torso that might work despite lack of overalls. I also have some white pants and should be able to (very) carefully take it apart and combine it with a gray midsection for the codpiece... Could be worth a shot

I hate that new helmet piece. It doesn't look too bad on Tron/Rinzler but overall it just feels cheap. Lego usually puts way more effort into their pieces. Hell, even the Star Wars helmets are including plastic trans visors now instead of printing the visor directly on the face.

I bought this less than an hour after it was available direct from Lego. It isn't actually that bad, all things considered, but I had a few problems all of them having to do with printing. For some reason the QA with their printing has gotten really shitty. I had a misprint on one of Rinzler's discs where the white circle was printed overtop of the orange almost obliterating any color but not quite giving me a cool unique white disc. Rinzler's helmet similarly had a misalignment. The right side was fine but the left was down too low making him look a bit lopsided. I contacted customer service and they resent the parts. The new disc was perfect but the helmet printing, while better, was still off.

Fuck OCD, it just sucks buying something and getting it in any less condition than it appears on the box or instructions. I've swear I've been seeing more printing slips lately, too. Anyone else having the same problem?

The Wasp is probably the worst offender when it comes to that helmet, made even worse with the introduction of a perfectly fine Antman/Wasp helmet-piece next year on DC's Firefly.
As for the printing, it seems like they have serious issues with it in general and therefore try to use stickers as much as possible.
It's especially notable with bright colors on dark bricks where the paint isn't thick enough and ends up looking faded.

Also, I got that set too when it was released and Rinzlers arm cracked from just being on display and Sam's right arm is pretty poorly molded, having a bit of flash on it (note: those figures with arm printing? They're Chinese made). If it wasn't for the fact that I bought it in a Lego store I'd probably would've considered this thing a bootleg.

Lady Iron Dragon was such a mess. I don't know what they were thinking and how it passed the prototype stage. They'd have been better off using a regular yellow head and then creating a black border around her face. Not much different from the trooper cmf in terms of overall coverage. The rest of her head, the bulk of it, could have been left yellow since her hairpiece/helmet would have covered it.

They're pretty cool about it. The one thing that surprised me the first time I did it is when they asked for codes from the booklet and sometimes the box. When it's explained as helping track down the batch to report defects I can understand that but the proof of purchase seems silly. You can download the booklets for the number and the code can be copied down from one on a store shelf without even purchase.

I might be being naive, but I like to think Lego might have gotten their shit together to avoid a future mishap on pare with Lady Iron Dragon. At least the new arctic mask guy is very good. A dark blue head instead of black but the white shows up nice. I own six or so of these heads, planning on making some SWAT teams, so it isn't just this render. Of course the black part barely shows up unless you're in very good light.

Maybe yellow will still be a bitch, but it's clearly not just the yellow that's a problem with her..

Exclusives like this are the bane of my brickistence since I no longer have any local purchase options (I doubt my TRU is coming back anytime soon). Unlike the Lester UK exclusive fig whose parts were (mostly) available direct from Lego (and gloriously cheaper than BL) Bricktobers don't show up, at least on their online system.

Semi-related sidenote one of my local stores surprised me by suddenly stocking the banana guy who was offered as a promo some time ago. They only want 5 bucks each. Feels like such a ripoff considering he's basically the series 16 version with new printing and a boombox added. You just don't have to feel him to know what you're getting. I get why people like the elves stuff here, but I could never get into them. There's some neat parts and builds and especially accessories but similar to the friends the colors are too out of place in what I already have. I just can't think of any use for them. Shame I don't still focus on the Kingdom stuff since it would make a decent magical forest and you can convert a lot of the buildings into either elfin or standard peasant dwellings.

I have bought some individual parts. I'm store disappointed that the necklace bit isn't really compatible with minifig neck studs. You can cram it on but it doesn't work too well.

The Harry Potter figures are coming to Barnes and Noble in the U.S. Not sure about the others -- probably a LEGO Store. The Dragon Hunter is a polybag and will probably be at a LEGO Store sometime, but he was free with a $30 our base at TRU earlier this month. The two Make and Take builds I have no clue about, and it probably varies per region. TRU has a Ford Anglia build coming up on the 27th.

Cyclo and Liska were my favorite builds of the Guardians - though I find it funny how tiny the great and mighty Guardian of Wind is compared to Ashwing. Also don't forget there are TWO versions of Lumia - the Eagle form and the newer Wolf form that's basically a modified Liska. Still need Bat Noctura to finish the collection.

I personally liked most of the sets of the theme but as it was not released at retail over here I never got any of it. Apparently that was quite common in Europe, the Scooby theme just didn't come out except in Lego stores. Also I read that it sold quite poorly in the Americas so.

The set pictured is the second best of the theme after the haunted lighthouse, but since it's the only way to get Velma it's pretty much a must-have. My only gripes with this one is that the monsters are not as fun looking as in the Lighthouse.

What'd you pay for it?

i made the central tower one storey shorter and put a square-base brickbuilt roof on it, plus i detached the greenhouse and put an extra wing on the left. Came out real nice and compensated for missing the Monster Fighters haunted house

Well, here goes my adventurers guild moc.
When i'm not too busy wage slaving i'll build a bit of it, the first floor will have a "reception area" with a quests bulletin board, a kitchen connecting just to the right and couple of tables for adventurers to sit and rest, second floor will have the weapon store, potion store and guild masters chambers.
My plan is to first build the skeleton of the building and then return to add details and flesh out the interiors, for instance, the bottom floor will have a stuffed shark hanging from the middle of the main pillar and so on.
No idea when i will finish.

I didn't say it wasn't real. The zombie sharks were from the Silent Mary set. In this case workers had nicked them and put them up for sale online. There was a debate that they were fake but turned out to be real. Became something of a meme around here at the time, but nothing to rival cheeky croc. I'm surprised you don't remember, it wasn't too long ago.

Can someone please convince me to buy that crocodile? I was only like three inches from putting it into cart but then I thought about all the other sets which I can't display because no space and how they are closed in boxes. It is a bit big, yeah. The thing about it is it was designed with sort of Thunderbirds vehicles in mind. Big, heavy, and slow. Sort of like a long range, heavy bombardment type vehicle. I also tried to get all of the colours to match, too. The use of grey was to offset it, mainly, but it is symmetrical. Tried to design it to look functional, so things are there for a reason.

Might mock it up in LDD and see what I could do with modern parts, rather than just MTron, Rock Raiders, and Alpha Team bits. Needs more plates, that's for sure.

I assume that the pieces need to be glued together to prevent leaking, but a floating lego ship would be a project worth working on. You could even set up a paddle wheel system with motorised tecnic pieces if you wanted it to guide itself.

I'm going out of town for a bit. I decided to fashion a house for a minifig out of one of the battle pods. He's got a bed, shelf, and several spots to hang items built in to the pod. I've also given him a pumpkin, a red potion, a blue potion, a 5 worth coin, a golden knife, a small oil lamp, a stick and a small wood table/stool. I still have a few studs that I could attach to, but I'm kinda out of ideas for what the little gnome could need. One stud over the knife spot is usable and the two anti-studs under the shelf might be usable. And of course the wood paneling can be moved or whatnot. Can you guys think of anything else a tiny adventurer might need?

Look for the rare parts first and fill up orders as you need. This usually cuts me down to 3-4 orders.

Also ordering from Lego online (if they have the parts) can be a good option, even if their prices aren't, just ot save on shipping.

Yeah, the curve on Lego track is insanely tight compared to most real-world lines. I get why it is that way, but still. It also means anything with multiple wheelsets swerves outward quite sharply as it turns, so if you're planning any sort of layout around the track that's something to bear in mind.

What ever became of element 30034? This was in a bunch of Space sets between 1996 and 1999 in black and white, but then dropped off the face of the Earth. Has any one used them in any cool MoCs? Sometimes, pieces are designed and produced, but then later a problem is discovered. Maybe the clips break too easily, or maybe the piece was discontinued because it was so specialized that it wasn't cost-effective enough to keep maintaining the mold.

Considering that Lego almost went bankrupt shortly after that date, I would guess that someone decided the piece couldn't be used in as diverse of sets as they would prefer.
