So we get a Ninjago Legacy collection? Like Bionicle Stars? Onlty the first three years?(the best ones).

Which is the best Ninjago year to you anons?
And why? To me is Year 1&2 because skeletons and snakes are cool. Stone army was pretty good but that's it. I did like the ghosts wave.

No. They entered a time rift and came out in a universe where the sets are all slightly different. That's what this new wave is reflecting.

Never understood why people dislike Castle 2013.
It was fairly non-descript, but it didn't it's job. It's certainly better than KKII (though KKII did have some nice stuff)

I think a lot of it was disappointment that it was only 5 sets and then it was over.

DESU a lot of the sets look good. Only the small castle wall one with the catalpult is kinda meh.

Yeah it was kind of disappointing, especially since we had Fantasy Era and Kingdoms beforehand. But I feel like it did it's job for what it was, which was a side castle theme that had to sell next to LotR and Hobbit sets.
Also the factions were quite nice IMO, especially the red dragon dudes.

The minifigures are inside the System, I guess. The original ones, at least.

But I don't consider the Mini Figures part of the System.

They're Compatible LEGO toys, just like the Mini Dolls are compatible with System and Technic.

For me it was a case of not enough goons/massable figures. Sure you had the scorpion foot soldiers but I remember having doubles and triples of all the main character knights. Not too useful.

Those look to be the ones from this wave but in gold instead of silver. They come in a separate weapons pack bag. They are primarily a weapon for minifigs and are a bit too big looking for the samurai helmets I tried them on but do look better than some of the previous options.

I always preferred space to pirates which is probably why so many of my pirates and castle guys survived but the space dudes wound up broken and their emblems faded. So sad how few of them survived the 80s.

Unrelated, but I kept finding these Calculator Man armors on the floor at Walmart every time I went to browse CMFs. I think I might have only bought one CM but I have enough parts for two plus some extra armors from just finding the pieces loose on the shelf or floor.

The rubber is very secure. The piece was developed for those 2x2 red motors, which just have a rotating stud on them, so it’s specifically built to convert stud rotation to axle rotation.

Aw, fuck, I hope not. My nephews and basically all of their friends who are into Lego really love Ninjago, it would absolutely break their heart. The theme seems to be at the height of its popularity by now, there's no good reason to retire it, r-right?

Can you fellas enlighten me on Ninjago? Not trying to memeblogpost or hate, but I just can't find an appeal to it.

I've bought some early ninjago sets to my zoomer nephew, myself being a 90's brickboomer, and I wasn't impressed. I can see some aesthetics in the ninjago city though. Capebricks neither, they are even lower for me.

Now what they should REALLY make is a line of $300 modular buildings where all the minifigs have big titty torso printing and minidoll hair. That's what customers really want.

I was just curious, because with most sets, you get some vehicle/structure that is too colorful to mix with ordinary series sets.

Thanks to you guys always talking about how great Monster Fighters is and especially this set I bought one despite not really wanting it months before it was out of stock.
I ended up using the sandgreen pieces for a Green Grocer and made the Haunted House full light grey though I kind of want to make it another color, maybe brown with the grey accents.

Yes anon. That's the concept of a "multiverse".

Marvel comics is a multiverse. Ultimately everything is canon and connected.

But I don't think the minifigures world is connected to mini-dolls. So they're different things, like Zelda is not in Mario universe.

As for elves, even if they happen to live on a different planet from friends, there's no reason to assume it's the same universe. As far as I know the only cross over between them is a go-kart racing game on mobile. That's not going to be canon.

Now if you want to argue about magic existing in Friends' universe we can talk. Magic is for sure a thing in the Elves' universe, regardless of if you're in elf land or the human world. So if we can pin point a set or even an animated video with magic we can at least make the jump from there. I know we've seen a few stage magic type sets from Friends.

Agreed. City should be something of a parallel with the modern world. To me that's one of it's biggest appeals. I saw the pics and I'm hoping this might be more of an anomaly rather then the new norm. Maybe it's just some gang trying new tactics by unique upgrades to vehicles. The police force still looks to be using more regular tech at least.
I mean I love the LEGO City Undercover game partly because it's similar to a regular world with just a few tweaks because it's klocki. The lineup of cars was great because I can recognize so many of them being based or at least inspired by real cars. Sure things in the final act get pretty off the wall nuts with forcefields and a moonbase but otherwise it's fine.

I've read that even the designer who work on City do get tired of just designing the same old Police Station, Police cars, Fire Stations, Fire trucks over and over for years on end. So if they get a chance to mix up the regular Police or Fire offerings with stuff like sea rescue, swamp police, or forest police they will.
Fighter jet and VTOL police is pretty weird, but the designers really just want a chance to make something different other than the same police stations over and over.

I can't help but think the more fantastical direction of City Police is in some part driven by Chinese building block brands like Enlighten and their less grounded Police themes. It's weird, but it certainly seems as if Lego is playing catch-up in this case.

Here's the reality. I realized it last year when we saw the sci fi mining theme. Lego's other original themes have been replaced outright by licensed properties. City has now become a catch all for any sci fi/space/rock raider/power miner/aquazone/etc type stuff they want to do rather than giving those themes their own dedicated space. You should absolutely expect it to be the new norm.

I believe anon mention that with how popular the series is, they're basically doing an "all-star" wave and redesigning the best selling sets of the series before the new stuff. Because the kids getting into it now missed out on the old sets their friends have, and it's a chance to get them again (sort of).

It's an interesting concept, because if it's popular, it sets up the possibility for other "legacy" re-designs.

I mean, if not sets, then they could easily do Lego CMF All-Star sets, which is ultimately what your pic related space pack was - a way to get lots of figures from the theme for your moc purposes.

Granted, unlike the pirates, his printing isn't updated, and the fact he had a new printed piece and was a chase figure might spoil Lego's understanding of whether or not people wanted him or they wanted to sell him, so.

I'm not banking on it either, but what I'm saying is, if the Legacy Ninjago sets are a hit, I don't see why they wouldn't considering doing a mix-and-match wave of iconic lego figures, either in nostalgia-bait updated sets, or just as CMFs.

I'm split about CMFs. Classics would be nice, but we get so many "event" CMFs these days. Movie tie-ins or license shit. Not that I'm complaining even about the licensed figs. I am enjoying my Cho army.

I suspect if they do something like that it will be more like pic related. Maybe some of those 4 pack exclusive shit. Admittedly it doesn't have the true classic space helmet, but I still bought one. I think I got lucky with an amazon deal there, or maybe BL. Turned it into a cute spacelady first chance I got. Such is life.

I was really hoping the anniversary CMF series was going to be a series of important figures from Lego's past.

I think their idea is to make a good movie and, at the same time, market LEGO as a toy. That's why we always see the theme of father/child...

It worked great for the first one, the Ninjago is not bad neither, they went the "Power Ranger" route. But it's harder to connect with silly asian movies.

If they can't market it for the parents, I'm not sure if the series will survive as a LEGO, even if it's doing great.

LEGO Batman only happened because Batman is a Warner property... so...

It's possible that Ninjago will end. But maybe it'll continue, since LEGO official channel stream a lot of Ninjago animations and stuff.

But if it's not marketable for father/parent, it won't work long term. I think.

I just think it was a calculated and ultimately misguided risk to base the movie on a specific property that is only six years old. Six years is a lot in Lego theme terms, but it means that kids who got Ninjago at the very earliest will only be around 14-15 today, which is not an age demographic where you go to see movies about your childhood toys. Generally speaking, I'm sure some early teens do.

And for parents, Ninjago is just "that thing with ninjas I buy for my kids". Lego in general and especially since TLM was heavily skewed towards 1978-1990 themes and sets was perfect for attracting adults, who then brought their kids. lego Batman had the traction of Batman, and would really only have flopped if it had been too adult for parents to take their kids to. Which it wasn't.¨

But Ninjago really had no premade audience. At all. It's not even a bad movie, it's just a movie that a very small demographic is going to be interested in.

I am sure >>7238458 is right that if they do more "The Lego (X) Movie" they will be either direct sequels or based on licensed stuff. A cinematic Lego Star Wars movie might happen now that Disney are desperate to get viewer confidence again. Or maybe a cinematic Lego Marvel movie of some kind.

You think they'd be used to it by now. They get the point pretty quick.

That craps big business if you're good at identifying the figure without opening it. I've been tempted to just buy a case of the bags so I can go through it for purposes of reselling. Probably someplace like amazon with tends to get a markup for figures. You could even wait on them for awhile until the series is no longer available to build up the price. I'm pretty good at feeling the bags and it would be amusing to put that skill to use and make a profit.

Guess I never did because it's a bit of a hassle setting everything up, waiting for buyers, dealing with shipping. Dealing with whatever problems show up.

I can understand that. Personally, though, I'd rather get what I wanted. The far more pleasant surprise is locating a figure I've been looking for prior to checking out. That way there is never a sense that I might choose poorly and leave the store while also leaving the figure I wanted there on the peg...and likely gone along with the rest of the bags next time I stop by.

Yes it's cheating in a way but fuck that, I get what I want! What really bugs the shit out of me is people who rip open the bags and even spill parts all over. Just learn to feel for specific equipment, people! It isn't that hard. God there is nothing worse than finding the figure you want only the bag has been torn and parts are missing.

I go to the Lego store. The shop assistants there know what people are doing when they are feeling up bags. Hell, they even help me from time to time when there aren't many other customers. Sometimes, when there's an especially rare minifig, like the police guy, they even get me an unopened box from the warehouse to feel through.
And most other customers have been quite nice, some were a bit confused, sure, but generally they're nice. I've also helped quite a lot of people get minifigs they were searching for.

Isn't Lego partnered with WB for these movies? They'll never do a marvel movie, although a Justice League movie in the style of lego batman would be amazing.

I can see they using it to cover technical and monster stuff instead of creating more specialized pieces. It'll be closer to real life engineering too.

I was studying the LEGO brick. I think I've discovered why it's not 1:1...

I was wondering about that too much actually. The pieces are 5:6.

So, there's some math involved. Everything revolves around 1,6mm.

1,6 x 6 = 9,6mm
1,6 x 5 = 8mm

So far, so good, but the problem appears if you want to stack 3 plates.

For each 3 places you get one piece... so 3 x 3,2mm = 9,6mm.

A stud has a diameter of 4,8mm (3 times 1,6mm), the walls have the size of 1,6mm

So a small piece with 2 walls and a stud would measure 8mm.

If you want to keep everything at the same proportion, using "one unit" to fit everything, it would be hard to make it in a 1:1 cube, I think.

Maybe you'd have to use 4 plates to make a brick, instead of 3. I didn't calculate a possible resolution for that. But it's pretty interesting that LEGO has a standard unit for everything.

Everything in a LEGO piece is about multiplying by three and using a unit of 1,6mm. I mean, the most basic pieces.

I actually think that numbers first appeared at Kiddicraft piece. But I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm that?
