I'll see Bumblebee, but hype doesn't describe how I feel about it. I am keeping an open mind, but it may be too G1 for my taste (I thought the Cybertron scenes were a step back CGI-wise). Idk, I like Bayformers; maybe I just have poor taste.

Not sure I can 100% agree, but they certainly don't appeal to me. They look like the definition of "meh". I was open minded about the weathering, but it really does look like crap on some of them. I have a few wants from Siege, mainly Skywheels. It's great that many are welcoming this line with open arms, but it is mostly not for me.

Do we hate Botbots now? Seemed to be a lot of hatred for them last thread. If Bay man bad, the opposite of Bay is not good. It is so painfully obvious the Cybertron scene is a Hail Mary, a last ditch effort to get fans into theaters. The worst part? It worked. G1 fans will buy a $14 ticket to see 3 to 5 minutes of a movie. I bet if it opens with Wheeljack and Bumblebee they will call it the best movie ever. Just because of a callback to an 80's cartoon.

TLDR;
The G1 scene in the Bumblebee movie is likely to get people interested in seeing 'Transformers One' and once the general audience is comfortable seeing entirely CGI movies about Transformers then they'll branch out into other styles.

December is looking like it’s going to be a huge month for movies with so many titles it can be hard to keep track of all of them. One of the movies that no one thought they would end up being excited for is Bumblebee. After five movies and over ten years Transformers fans finally look like they have a movie they can be excited about. The LA Times spoke to screenwriter Christina Hodson and asked her how she found the Transformers.

I loved the toys and as a kid I watched the cartoons. I was robot-obsessed as a kid and weirdly always thought I would one day build my own robot that would be alive and real… [Steven] Spielberg said about the first ["Transformers”] that the thing he responded to was the simple concept of a boy and his car, which I totally loved. I remember the first time I turned the ignition in my dad’s car, the feeling of bringing a big hunk of metal to life — the most magical feeling.

One of the things that was going to make or break this movie is the casting of Charlie. Hodson believes they were very lucky that they got Hailee Steinfeld because the role isn’t easy.

We’re lucky we got her because it’s a tricky role; so often we see girls in films who are “the mean girl” or “the tomboy” or “the artist,” and what I loved about her and what I could relate to because it’s who I was, is that she’s a bit of everything. I think most kids are. Most of us are a weird mishmash of everything. We don’t totally know where we fit in with each other and with ourselves and that was the stuff I was drawn to.

Now that it’s November we should see the promotional material for Bumblebee kick into high gear. People are a little nervous because they’ve been burned by these movies before but there really does appear to be something very different about this one. Maybe these movies have been waiting for someone like Hodson to take them in a new direction.

I just can't see how anyone thinks the generations one looks better. It's still good, it's a good toy and overall has stood the test of time well, but Seige looks so much better.

That said, I don't know if I'll care about getting it either. Striker Manus is my preference anyway.

No. The movies became increasingly dependent on foreign markets (look up box office numbers for the last 5). AOE was completely propped up by China. TLK was a bomb; it made less than TF07. The fact that they pushed Bumblebee back 6 months and turned the G1 pandering to 11 speaks volume of how scared they are of the next one doing poorly.

Nah it looks good because even with high stakes Bee looks like a relatable character that'll have dimensions to his personality outside of just being a fighter. We'll actually get some Cons that actually have more than three lines. The main girl doesn't look like she'll be as much of a nuisance as screaming Sam or toughguy Cade. The only thing this film could do to make it bad imho is if they have all these elements like S7 and Bee's design and they don't at least tie this film with the 07 one. Retcon the rest but I feel like this and the original could coexist.

When the first movie came out, I read an interview where someone said that the Autobot faces are modeled after the Autobot insignia and the Decepticon faces are based on the Decepticon symbol.

Amazingly, if we go by that theory, Lockdown's face is modeled after the Quintesson insignia:

The original plan may have been to have Quintessons as The Creators but the Writers' Room changed it to a single Quintessa

I don't know Thew's politics, but I am almost always amused by his reviews. That's my limits to my involvement with the man.

I could care less if the NPCs at TwatSpark like BotBots. Or any other subject. I left that board over a decade ago because they were insufferable cunts. They've only gotten worse as they have chased off anyone who is the the right of Karl Marx. I am here for bits if plastic robots, not politics. Piss off.

As for BotBots, I like them. I don't care if TwatSpark loves them and /tfg/ hates them. None of you buy my toys for me. I don't buy your toys. You don't buy mine. You can buy an entire collection of Energon Ironhide and Kicker and Primus bless you if you get enjoyment out of it. I'm going to buy little bits of food and home improvement tools that transform into tiny robots.

They're the most truly imaginative thing to come from the brand since Kenner did the first series of Beast Wars toys.

I might feel differently after I've gotten 190 in one year, but I'm more excited about it than I am re-buying the same cast in similar designs yet again in Siege. I have Optimus Prime and Sideswipe and Prowl and Ironhide. I'm not buying those designs again.

Studio Series only has me for the Constructicons and probably the 2007 model Optimus, because I genuinely prefer the brighter colors for that design. Plus the chest and back are improved.

MicroMasters is probably my most favorite thing coming up, though I am a bit miffed that they're half assing it and only giving us half of each Patrol. Still, my Omega Supreme will be littered with tiny robot vehicles and school supplies as MicroMasters and BotBots happily cause mayhem together.

So it did well because of china then. Besides, I don't think they would pander to g1 this late in the game trying to get the original fans on board. seems a year or two too late for that.

I fucking love this thing, it gets a lot of hate but it's just so perfectly dumb and chunky and starwarsy-looking, and the bot mode is fucking beautiful and the detail/greeble is over the top in the best goddamn way.

I hated this thing at first sight but now it's my most anticipated figure

I don't understand how some of the Siege figures got away with a sensible level of detailing (like Hound and Sideswipe) but others look like they were laser-etched to within an inch of their life (Starscream, Ultra magnus). You can be for or against greebling, but the designers on Siege are so inconsistent with it that the figures look like they're from different lines.

I'd agree with you, except Starscream's greebles are mostly hidden on his alt. mode >>7234400, which looks fine by comparison, so it still doesn't really make sense.

No. Most of the prime master shells and pretty much all of the headmaster vehicles are fucking terrible "weapons", usually because the "weapon" mode is a half-assed afterthought on most of them, same goes for the Micromasters. The Targetmasters are robots and weapons, no third mode. Apart from Lionizer, they all look pretty good. The articulation is shit, though. Takara's targetmasters from the tail end of the LG line were way better in that regard.

And really, Targetmasters have been an extremely under-utilized gimmick until recently. Why are you so eager to close the book on them just because "it's been done"? Targetmasters are such a great idea, and if every toyline from here on out gets accompanied by tiny robots that can turn into guns, or transforming weapons in general, I'll be all for it.

Seeing as how we've been getting the same sunbow characters over and over for the past 10+ years, and the idea of proper targetmasters was really only just revisited over the past few, I'd say the targetmasters are easily one of the LEAST redundant things about Siege.

MP-36 Megatron is universally renowned for being the best show-accurate G1 Megs to date

MP-32 Optimus Primal has some issues with his arm transformation and suffers paint chipping out the ass like all the other BW MPs, but is the best looking (and most cost-efficient) Primal on the market.

Good luck trying to get the other BW MPs for less than a fucking kidney though.

Post figures that get too much shit.
POTP Jazz has his weird hand flaps and bland default deco but beyond that he's a pretty great deluxe. Great looking alt mode and easy, satisfying transformation. It's almost impossible to fuck up the transformation and everything clicks right into place in both modes. Robot mode only has hollow forearms and thighs that are kinda hollow from the back. Totally flat and inconspicuous backpack. Waist swivel that isn't needed for transformation. Good poseability despite lacking ankles and real wrists. That being said I didn't realize his greatness until after I applied some paint and reprolabels.

Not sure what you're trying to get at since the sizes are pretty close. Plus it's retarded to only judge the cost of a Transformer by its vertical height when you should be weighing them if you truly want to bitch about that.

In addition, it's pretty obvious the price increase went towards making things like paint, ankle tilts and wrist swivels more of a standard. When was the last time an entire line had painted hubcaps and ankle joints? Or paint apps on the weapons?

Compare that line-up by year. Topspin to Darkwing to Cog. The MSRP jumped up yet the figures are back down to almost T30 size, with just most of the paint and complexity that line's deluxes carried. Topspin was larger, more complex, and had about as much paint yet he was made only two years prior. If the MSRP was the same as PotP's I'd say it's an improvement overall but I don't think the price hike is justified unless you collect cardboard boxes.

Bigger doesn't always mean better. Granted, I'm not a fan of how prices have steadily crept up ever since the turn of the century and there's been a lot of cases where Hasbro has definitely cut corners, but I don't think you can make a solid argument about Siege just from the limited information you have about the size alone. We'll just have to wait and see what the consensus is.
