>>7359290You're obviously a mudhutter, considering you don't understand how huge sales are for MLs.
Again, total revenue for Playmates (an international company) is under what Hasbro (an international company) had to pay in just guaranteed royalties to Hasbro within that time period.
Here you are trying to claim Playmate's TMNT toyline was hotter than Hasbro's MLs, yet they only make up a fraction of Playmate's other shit (ok, a large fraction) they also make, but even then it's nothing compared to just the royalties Hasbro would need to pay Marvel even if they sold nothing. Obviously, it sold more than nothing, hence renewing their license ($$$) and promising extra royalties ($$$) for that renewed time-frame.
Again, 100 million in just guaranteed royalties to Marvel VS 47 million bucks in REVENUE (all total sales Playmates made for that year).
If you think TMNT is hot shit with tens of millions of dollars in sales, what is 100 million?
The fact that we're even talking about TMNT actually being popular, which it was, points toward a duopoly not existing. A duopoly only exists when two major countries control the market. Playmates' TMNT line wouldn't exist in stores, if at all, if such a duopoly existed. A duopoly is about having near to complete control of everything in that market. Compared to real monopolies, like Standard Oil, Hasbro & Mattel do not control 85% of action figure anything. Not toy shelves in Target, not the ones in Walmart, and never in TRUs when they existed.
And yes, the burger market matters most, because it outsells most countries combined. Lotta money to be had if you can sell your stuff in the US.
But please, keep ignoring how planograms are made and the fact that MLs make up the largest portion of everything Marvel sold by Hasbro, just because you need to pretend that kids aren't buying up $20 figures because... why? Butthurt that a children's toyline is liked by adults because it has collector qualities? US kids can afford $20 figures?
