I've always found miniland models really boring, even when I was a kid. They're just like modeling with clay but with bricks, without clever and imaginative use of the pieces.

That's plasticizer leaking out. Typically it takes at least a few years for it to start happening, but those beads... damn that's a bad case (not even mentioning the broken tires)

I'd check to see if that type of tire is still in production, and if it is definitely call Lego and complain about it

I guess so. Even tourism doesnt quite explain so many black people being in these countries. I can tell you that I did not see a SINGLE black person in the Sydney harbour/Opera house area during the Vivid lights show which draws up to a million visitors.

Nah some non Lego brands feel, look and most importantly, function very similar to Lego. Personally Gudi has been good for me. Just dont mix Lego with shit tier brands or Mega Bloks. In fact dont mix Mega Bloks with anything. Their aesthetic is way too unique.

Alot of people see minifigs as accessories for the Lego bricks but for me, figures are figures and crossing them over is so much fun.

My autism wouldn't let me. For me the whole appeal of LEGO is making stuff out of a clearly defined set of parts and the excitement of seeing what others can make with the same set of parts. Once you start adding non-LEGO stuff in my mind you might as well just fully transition into sculpting stuff from scratch. Also the reason why I don't like figures like these.

Yes, because they're trying to run a business where they have to balance the parts count against making a profit, and to make it sturdy enough to be still playable.

Some guy making one MOC can use as many piece as he likes, using any kind of janky connections, even illegal ones, and may not even worry about the stability because he or she may just want to have it as a display piece.

I found a recent TIE model in a similar scale. While the MOC has 772 parts, Lego's model only uses 501 parts, AND includes 4 other minifigures.

Lego's TIE costs $50. The MOC, at the same price-to-part ratio, would cost $77, while yielding a similarly sized model.

Also, the outer solar arrays (or whatever they are) look really neat being built in literally 6 different directions, but I'm fairly certain they are harder to build and less stable.

I dunno, the boring part might be true but that has it's own charm for me somehow. Just regular stuff. I like his more practical utility vehiclestuff. His trains and boats are things i'm not knowledgeable about so i enjoy seeing those. His bike/icecream building also looks really nice too.
Calling it uncreative isn't what i'd call it, more differing tastes at times and lower skill-level or norms for stuff like cars. Seeing him incrementally build his city and come up with new ideas is just max comfy for me.

wait aren't those bookshelfs that use the cabinet frame doctored/illegal? you see one halfplate purple book that might be a bracket but a sideways 2-wide brick is 5 plates high while the height of the inside of the cabinet is 4.5 (6plates minus the base tile and halfplate top surface)
also they have ridges for the drawers yet they still have those inserted books pushed all the way up to the sides.

So I just finished building set number 6988-1 - the Alpha Centauri Outpost and I’ve decided to make a post about it and share a bit about the set with you guys.
First thing I noticed about the set is that when fully built it’s surprisingly large and they’ve managed to squeeze in a lot of cool and interesting features.
The main build is a Blacktron 2 base that has been constructed on top of a raised baseplate. This choice I feel gives the entire build a very unique and interesting structure – with levels both above and under ground level.
Apart from the imposing large windows and towers, the main feature of the base is a light-up system that feeds of a small 9 volt battery hidden in the underground parts of the base. At the front the base has a docking station for one of the two identical small craft. The underground level is accessible via a hatch and stores the battery but leaves a bit of room for play.
The ramp part of the baseplate synergizes really well with the small rover that’s included giving it quite the speedy boost.
The other build of the set is the larger ship seen landed on the pad to the left. While not the main focus of the set the build is good enough that it does not feel like an afterthought and instead feels like something that could have stood on its own merits and been its own set. The rear compartment allows for storage of the small rover that can be deployed via a ramp. It opens and closes using the same system most Classic Space ships used. The front of the ship (canopy) can detach and act like a smaller ship.
The small rover is obviously small. It helps one astronaut go from here to there.
When it comes to minifigures – the set delivers 5 BL2 astronauts. While one more wouldn’t have hurt you can’t really say it’s an issue.
As the flagship set of the 1991 Blacktron 2 line I feel the set does its job well – and even today, the set feels like both a great playset or a good display set.

Regarding pricing, at 80 USD in 1991 the set would be about 150 USD today - which is on the expensive side. Still, I feel that the raised baseplate, light system, large trans neon green pieces and landing pad justify the price of this set.
If you get the chance, definitely get it. It's a great collection piece (if you plan to display it) but also a great playset.

If you want any other shots/angles please let me know. What do you think about the set?

i know what you mean, i have them in a sealable curverbox when i do take them with me so i can stick everything in it and lock it into place unless im taking a pic. Indoors i do display them where they're safe.
i'm also a bit of an autist when it comes to sturdiness so that helps. After thinking taking this pic was a good idea and almost flushing away some of my favourites figures i kinda stopped though.

So a while back i made a little midfig mockup. After noticing the new Hagrid figure has technic pin arms with regular sized hands, I updated it to use those as arms. I think it works well.

Willing to bet someone at Lego is playing around with a similar design. At this point if they use the Hagrid arms, they only need a new buff torso mold to complete the thing.

They weren't/aren't internet fairing folks. Which was slightly more forgivable in the mid 2000s than it is now. Not by much. But it was a thing. And it wasn't after hours. It was like closed for a remodel or something? I think? I can't remember the reason. We were there for a couple days but it was shut down the whole time. It was kind of dumb. I appreciated the gesture from my parents and I told them I still had fun (we went to the San Diego zoo and took some tours). Honestly all I remember is being bummed out the whole time and also a random and surprising amount of rain.

It occurred to me that my undersea mining operation could use some adversity, above and beyond the the usual hazards of unearthing precious minerals at the bottom of the ocean. Took the barebones framework of a ship I'd been tinkering with before my last university term ate up all my time and turned it into this fearsome space- and seagoing vessel. I own both this and the Blacktron 1 base and the latter is on a whole other level (lel) and feels much more like an actual base of operations while this here is just a glorified antenna array with masts and a landing pad. Also, the electric features feel a bit weird. You get this huge battery box that takes up a large space in the basement and only adds some lights that are also don't line up with the rest of the structure. What are they supposed to be in the first place. A big light-up laser cannon (laser communication beam emitter for the pacifists) would have made more sense.

One could see it as progression from a large, well-organized and established empire to a smaller, scattered outfit still in recovery mode after the Space Police cracked down on their original setup. Having a large conspicuous base probably made the SP's job easier once they were ready to take them down; BL2 have learned from this and switched to smaller outposts for coordinating their raids.

Decentralization and low visibility are key for factions based around the spying on and raiding of others, Spyrius demonstrated this with their own base being partially disguised as a rock formation. In the case of the BL2 base, I bet the lights are part of their electronic warfare systems, probably for jamming hostile scanners to help conceal the base from prying eyes. Even so, BL2 seem oblivious to how conspicuous those those big trans-neon green panels are, unless the intention there is intimidation and deterrence.

I'm not crazy about the design of the two protagonists but the actual sets and other minifigures look great. Like what's with the Dark Bluish Gray parts? The 1x1 slopes on the side of the cockpit make sense but why are the plates on the wings in Dark Bluish Gray? And was there really no way to make the lines on the inside of the wings as well?

I own both of them as well - both have elements that I like. I feel the way they were set up is somehow justified.

The Message Intercept Base - is just what it says it it is - it's a base. It says so in the name. It has very cool features.

The Alpha Centauri Outpost - just like you say is not a full base - it is an outpost. I love the different feeling it gives. It's half built and half dug up. It's not a thing they had time to set up ( a base) but instead something that was more quickly put together. That to me doesn't make it inferior - just different.

I like the light aspect while I do agree the space it takes up is quite a lot. I also feel the baseplate adds a lot to the outpost set.
To me the lights are part of a system linked to that maibox piece. Perhaps part of a computer set-up.

I agree - a laser cannon would have made more sense but I don't see how it could have been made with the Lights and Sounds 9V system at the time ( you've given me a challenge and in the future I'll try to make something using that system).

I once entered a lego building competition as a kid and got disqualified because I didn't realize I had a small amount of mega bloks in the set. I didn't even know what mega bloks were. I also forgot to add - the BL2 set also has a larger ship that has a lot more going for it than the BL1 set.
That's not to say that if I had to pick a favorite out of the two I wouldn't pick the BL1 Message Intercept Base. Something about that corridor really makes it work for me as a 70s-80s Sci-fi build.

It was also the first LEGO space set I bought when I started collecting these back in 2016 - that and the Blacktron 1 Invader ship. Good times.

Thanks anons, sounds like I nailed it heh. The rear canopy serves as an airlock for sending out aqua raiders once all resistance has been neutralized: two hatches on either side open up for the storage of looted goods. I was surprised at how big this ship eventually became, even surpassing the largest of the mining fleet (comparison incoming). All this dark beauty requires now is a ruthless crew, which has been recruited through BL and should arrive within a week.

The SP assumption is based on the increased militarization of their ships and vehicles by SPII, as well as the reduced, decentralized status of BL2. Heh really, that's awesome. Expanding existing Lego factions and creating all new ones is my jam, always nice to see fellow anons into it too. It occurs to me that a little ship I built years ago would fit nicely with this new marauder band, just need to dig it out and retrofit it for underwater action. Now that I'm looking back at my Blacktron stuff, the ship on the left is incidentally very much in line with the marauders; seems we have do have a possible connection. I'd like to swap out those trans-black windscreens for something more fitting, but trans-neon green options are limited. Part 6152 might be my best bet, cuz it's either that or some kind of octagon setup which feels more like a Spyrius design (BL octagon canopies tend to be used for full glass cockpits; Spyrius favors them as canopies).

Sounds like a good premise, and yeah I've gone ahead and ordered a pair of those, thankfully a shop in town has them so I can do a local pickup. The ship does have more trans-neon green than is readily apparent in the one photo, but there's probably room for a bit more. These pics are pretty old, I'm almost certain I've replaced the light grey parts at the rear with black (I'll check later). That's how I'm gonna play it anyway, heh. In my canon a devastating series of wars and stellar catastrophes have crippled and scattered all the various factions, resulting in a lot of intermingling. The mining operation is probably the best example, but ex-Spyrius, IP2002, Unitron, Aquazone and others can be found in the ranks of other factions, even direct rivals. Some have banded together to form their own independent outfits as well, making things rather complicated at times.

Hmm I don't know if I should get this set or not.

I think the design is neat but it isn't as amazing as something like an AT-AT or Imperial Shuttle.

But it is affordable right now and they won't make a new one anytime soon I feel so I worry it will get more expensive later. However on Rebrickable the parts cost as much as the set so I guess I could always just buy the parts? What do you think? I just can't tell if I really want it or if I am looking at stuff to buy out of boredom. I am a bit afraid of getting the Star Wars set collecting fever because I neither have a lot of money or space.

Not sure about him, but my tires of that type tjat dried out, were hard to remove and became 'sweaty' were old ones from my childhood (90s through 2003)
i think it has to do with exposure to sunlight and heat, DONT wash tires with hot water as you'll quickly feel them to become sticky and stay sticky too. Once they start the process of leaking/sweating i'm not sure you can stop it. I only clean my tires with very cold water only if I absolutely need to. (too grimey for regular dry cleaning to not work anymore).
Sucks for that anon though, i'd also send a pic to Lego customer support if i were him.

Nah, IMO the red and bright light orange are perfect for a German color scheme.

I'd maybe experiment with moving the stripe one stud to either side, for a more asymmetrical look, but the colors are spot on.

What I ended up doing with my Blacktron 3 faction was imagining a return to form after Blacktron Two's more difficult times.
They reformed, reorganized and went back to the values that had given them dominion over so much.

The faction's aesthetic elements reflected this somehow and I picked black as the main color (Blacktron 1) with trans neon green as canopy/secondary color (Blacktron 2).
The torsos for the figures are the ones they used for the Space Police 3 alien villan.

As far as aliens and other faction mixing, I consider my BL3 guys to be their own, stand-alone faction. They don't really like to mix or cooperate with other factions much and prefer to get things done by themselves, on their own terms.

As far as adding aliens, so far I've got only humans in my outfits, with the addition of droids and other such automatons - but no aliens so far.

I feel your scenario allows for a lot of flexibility and creativity, but I would have a hard time bringing ruin (even imaginary) to the poor little astronauts working off in space in order to obtain a post-catastrophic narrative point.

That actually fits very well with what I have going too, heck I'd say your BL3 are at a period further along the timeline than mine, where they've managed to reinstate their old empire, with the new trans-neon green. I'm probably still going to have an alien or two in the marauder crew, as an exceptional alliance of convenience for raiding the secretive underwater mining faction; Blacktron proper vessels will remain "pure". I have a couple spare Brick Warriors Legion heads (from Mass Effect) that will help round out the crew, which would be in keeping with the droids and robots.

The whole post-apoc theme came about when I first tried to rebuild my old Deep Freeze Defender. There were some crucial components in use by other builds at the time (which were too pricy to replace through BL), so alterations in design were necessary. I got the idea to upgun the heck out of it, but then I needed a plausible reason for such changes. And so the concept of a devastated and chaotic space sector was born. In this version of events, Ice Planet 2002 probably underwent some of the most drastic changes, going from a peaceful satellite-launching, frozen-Blacktron-in-ice-rescuing outfit to a quasi-paramilitary branch of the Space Police, operating closely with them in keeping the various regional brushfires from flaring up into full blown conflict. I might do some slight rebuilding of the rear section,as those fore-mentioned components have since been liberated.

Were it so easy... I have that same reluctance with taking apart builds, but I've noticed that as I continue to refine my technique, my standards change and some older builds no longer meet them so they tend to be scrapped or rebuilt. Think this will eventually peter out though, as most if not all of my current MOCs were developed in my current building phase. Pic is an example of taking older builds and turning them into something new; in this case, I kind of went beyond what I originally planned, but for the better I'd say. That's a really neat tower btw, love how it's minimalist and menacing at the same time.

I will soon begin construction on what should be the last addition to the underwater mining operation (I've said that a few times already so we'll see heh); among other ideas I've also been tinkering with a couple mini-scale combat vehicle designs, using 95% or more Pick-a-Brick wall pieces (will post pics sometime). Not sure yet what my next project will be after the mining op addition, but it occurred to me that I don't seem to have anything for my little group of Unitron. They've been tagging along with the Exploriens and their ship so far, but I might see fit to get them their own. The one thing is I felt their ships and vehicles aesthetic didn't really match their outfits; white, black and blue with some trans-neon green, paired with grey, blue and yellow. If I build them something it'll probably drop the white and most of the black, with greater emphasis on blue, grey and yellow.

You should just call anon. The lego reps are trained to be non-judgemental of adults calling to order klocki. It's best if you have the inventory numbers ready to give them, but you can just give them the set number and describe the part and they can look it up on the parts list.

How much did they run you? I've been thinking of getting a bunch to dye yellow for a Classic Space greenhouse/base, but too expensive.
