Soft goods and a lack of diaphragm joint are the big ones for me right now.
Bad outward shoulder or hip movement can be a deal breaker.
Ankle rocker with no boot cut or ankle swivel drives me up the fucking wall if it's engineered to be a forward facing ankle rocker, as most are these days.
Clear plastic joints.

This put me off of basically every Freddy and Jason they've made, and a lot of their older Predators and Aliens. I'm glad that some of their more recent stuff seems to be slowly doing away with single joints.
Besides that, I think what usually puts me off of a figure I was thinking of buying are widespread reports of QC issues, whether that be paint issues, joints breaking, missing accessories, etc. I don't have any Mafex figures for instance because of all the reports of people having things break on theirs, and I've skipped out on a lot of recent Monsterarts releases due to lackluster paintwork.

Makes everything feel so uniform and dull. I get that it's more cost-effective but I still find it so boring. Hasbro Marvel Legends are the worst offenders for this, one bad body gets made into like 80 figures with a new head and hands if you're lucky, and the better bodies get used maybe once every 15 waves.

In general though, shit like not having ankle rockers, T-cuts in the torso, gummy faces or terrible paint on faces. Price can be a deciding factor, but it's less the price itself, and more the value. I don't mind paying up to like, 70 bucks for a figure, but it damn well better have the accessories and quality to go with it.

I take it you're not famliar with Mattel?

As already stated their is Mattel but also Jakks line as well where every single figure has the same body regardless of who they are. Marvel for the most part at least has 7 bucks they rotate through and will make new ones after a few years, Mattel stuck to the same body for a solid 8 years.

Why wouldn't you want the whole figure painted? If I had a batman figure I wouldnt want him having blue pegs

He means he would prefer joints to be casted in the color they need to be, not painted. If a joint has paint on it, it's going to scrape after a while, and cause a lot of stuck joints, especially when you first open them. With joints that aren't painted, it's as smooth as it should be.
