I don't own him, so I can only give my opinion from what I've seen:

-Thin clear plastic wings and shield
-Shield port for jet mode is too tight, if not fixed can break the shield peg
>Lacks waist articulation when it's almost standardized across the deluxe, voyager and leader classes for Siege.
-Mold has a hard time staying together in ape mode

This and the awful white color was a huge turn off for me.

I'm not a train guy but I share the sentiment. Having nicely detailed trains, among other things, is always pleasant.
I was thinking it would be nice to have the train cars be 1/18 scale but I'm probably massively underestimating how big a train car is so 1/24 would most likely be better.

Admittedly I'd rather Devastator just to see if it could knock Constructor off its perch. But I totally understand the decision to go with Raiden.

To be fair, they get upset because there are multiple cannon versions of the character to draw from: The Original cartoons, multiple comics, the original toys, etc.

Making the figure accurate to just one version of the character ignores the impact and history of the other versions, and being slavishly accurate to the cartoon and it's animation-friendly highly simplified designs like the latest round of MP's has been affects how the final product not only looks, but transforms.

I'm not saying that they're necessarily right for complaining, but at least I can understand why they're upset.

Looking through the Ark II (the character model book of the Japanese shows), I think I can see another reason for the choice of Raiden as the first MP Combiner. Compared to the designs from the American shows, the Trainbots are all relatively toy accurate with their model sheets, having big backpacks and kibble that doesn't just vanish.

For me it's because of the "combat" system, I really love decking my bot out in weapons and armour and the amount of configurations you can do is really fun.
That mixed with the really good articulation in all the figures has made siege a joy to collect got me.

Transformers' nostalgia factor is pretty tightly tied to the 80s, and that has to have been a contributing factor in Bumblebee's success. I'd reckon 80s Transformers movies have the potential to remain viable and they can always shift it up if that really stops being the case.

I'm imagining/hoping that they'll have to. Who else can it be aimed at? Casual fans have no idea who Raiden is, and barely anyone outside of Japan can possibly have a nostalgic connection. That sounds awesome, but they'd all be at least 3 feet long. Raiden would stand taller than people. They'll probably be around 1/72 or 1/87 (standard model train scale) so they'd be a practical size, affordable price and could potentially be used on OO or HO gauge track.

The last few lines have been all about the gimmick, and it's been linewide. "What if we did combiners?" "What if we did headmasters?" etc.

This time the design conceit is just "What if we made really good robot modes and gave them a bunch of accessories".

It makes the line that can stand on it's own without the gimmick but is enhanced by it, rather than the previous few lines that were hit or miss because you either wanted them FOR the gimmick or not at all.

It's far from perfect, considering the continued hollow spot plague and the downsized Leader class being a voyager with a tonne of extra crap you throw on it, but it's steps in the right direction.

I would REALLY recommend against buying him. His transformation either either mode is terrible, none of his modes hold together very well, he lacks a waist swivel and if you want to use his ankle rockers you have to unsecure the tab that holds the two halves of the shins together.

This mess here. It has multiple "anchor points" meant to hold it together, and you have to force them into place. Doing so risks pushing other anchor points out of position, and it'll likely take several tries to make it solid, and even then it threatens to pop out of place again.

The nosecone also pegs in using two pegs on each side of the ape head, and you need leverage on the opposite side of the shoulder panels to force said pegs into position, I need to use the lever of a nail clipper to do it.

Takara has a bit of a problem with MP Raiden if they do try to keep things to scale. Japan gives zero fucks about any scale of train smaller than HO, and even the HO selection there pales in comparison to their choices to N and Z. The thing is HO scale Raiden limbbots would be about as large as the Rail Racer bots were, and that's not really MP-sized.

MP Raiden'll probably be nonscale in that case, but somewhere around 1/87-1/50 scale-wise

The cycle of casettes is a constant source of depression for me. I had high hopes for the Siege Laserbeak/Ravage and Ratbat/Red Guy packs but as it fucking turns out Red Guy is the worst mold for that character yet. The Micromasters in Siege have been shit in general, but this square, flat dude with no guns is the worst.

I don't actually hate Ratbat though, despite him lacking some vital articulation and his guns.

Red Guy and Ravage are fucking terrible, Red Guy in particular looks even worse than the Titans Return and United/Generations versions because he doesn't even look good in robot mode.

Marked as gift still works but can you get that from Amazon.com? I know some ebay sellers refuse to do it because it's considered tax fraud in the US.

Well if you're buying from a foreign Amazon they normally add whatever the customs tax will be onto your bill if there is one.
I've bought some kits and figures from Japanese/Chinese sellers from Amazon UK and they undervalued it without me having to ask.
Once or twice I've had a seller directly contact me if I want it undervalued or marked as a gift too.
So really it just depends on the seller, it's best to test the waters and messaging them, I find sellers (on eBay at least) tend to be more willing to mark it as a gift than undervalue.

That being said though I prefer to buy in country when I use Amazon and use sites like EBay and Manda when I want to order from abroad since I find it's easier to directly talk with sellers on those sites.

Nah. They've been consistent so far. Only toon characters get toon style insignias.

Non-toon characters like Cordon, Artfire etc and toy style releases like MP-36+ get standard insignias.

Might have been somewhat desirable if that had changed the head sculpt and weapons to make him look more I dunno... evil.

There's no anime line art that they have to fell obligated to stick too 100%, so they could have taken some liberties.

In the end it's just a zero effort repaint.

Does anyone know the copper/gold/orange color on MP Dinobot? I’ve had the BW Masterpieces chip some paint, but he is by far the fucking worst. I want to fix his problems and then clearcoat it. I know I can’t be the only one to have this problem because it literally happened just by moving his legs a little to pose him. So fucking disappointing for his price point.

Looks even more unfinished than the regular release without any kind of markings on the cab. There’s no excuse here, as there’s no shitty animation colour guide they need to be following. I genuinely think the old MP10B Black Convoy looks better in both modes.
