Not that anon, but I don't care for the surprise part. I just want the cute doll inside. I don't buy them myself because the L.O.L characters I want are very specific, and if I got the wrong one there would be hell to pay. Long story short whatever store sold me the wrong doll would end up losing at least $60 to make up for their demonic deception.

Aw, this angry little boomer is acting like recasts are made the same way as 10 yrs ago. Recasts are made using 3D scanners these days and are literal exact copies, headplates and imprints and all. Get with the times.

Congrats on your find, anon! I went to the Disney Store today, and all they had were the Spirit Elsa/Queen Anna plush dolls.

On my way back home I stopped at a Super Walmart in hopes of finding a singing Hasbro Elsa, but once again they were totally sold out of everything Frozen. All they had was a never ending sea of that new black character. I think his name is Booster?

I was tempted to get one at TRU before they closed because I love large 17" dolls, but there was just something off putting about them visually. Not sure if they used different face sculpts or if they just blew the original 12" dolls up in size, but I ended up not getting any. If I could have one I'd get Frankie because shes cute, and doesn't date losers.

Yeah I never got it either. Grandma had some anatomically correct baby dolls I played with as a kid (they may have been nurse training dolls?) and I never thought it was weird cus like, I have little brothers and that’s what they looked like. Didn’t realize it was unusual until we had to do the robo-baby thing in high school and people were going nuts over the genitals. Granted my grandma also encouraged both of my brothers to play with baby dolls and stuff too which was considered weird but just resulted in a mechanic and a construction worker that can also feed and change a baby.

I've never held a recast/knockoff of any toy that was the exact Same quality. If the sculpt isn't off in some subtle way they've cut corners on the paint or the articulation in some way. The plastic may be lighter or the hair dry and shitty on knock off dolls. To pretend that they are EXACTLY the same is a lie to both yourself and others.

Hmmm, IMO they're better than anything Mattel, somewhere around middle stage 00's Bratz. They have zippers, chains and buttons. The only downsides (if any) are the plastic purses instead of fabric ones and the fact that they replaced the opportunity for a 2nd outfit with the surprise/wardrobe gimmick.
Whether you like the face sculpts is subjective, however the body sculpt is totally worth it

Recasts from certain shops are unarguably better quality than legit Mirodoll and Resinsoul (I've owned all of those before) though not on par with the higher end companies. They do LOOK exactly the same though, with no one being to tell the difference just by looking, which is what buyers care about.

And you can tell the difference with recasts in some cases just by looking. I mean at least resinsoul and the other cheap companies bother to finish they're dolls internally. Most recasts I've seen and the one shitty one I received as a bait and switch on eBay looked like shit on the inside, with stringing channels so rough they cut elastic.

I like the Jakks Pacific Disney Petite dolls. I think they look nicer than Hasbro's properly proportioned/adult dolls. Probably the quality of cloths and molding. Hasbro's look off and they can't get skin tones right with non-Asian non-White characters. They're all much darker than they should be. No one can get poor Moana right except Funko for some reason.

I know there was some talk of this on the previous thread and I don't want to raise the hackles of BJD general. I want to get a DD bootleg, but I can't find them anywhere! I've heard that there's a snow Miku and Saber bootleg out in the wild. I've tried eBay & Aliexpress with no success. (Ali's search feature is HORRID!)

A general Google search leads me to some videos that show that the bootlegs are actually really good. There's also BJD forum talk with alot of grandstanding & chest thumping about the evils of bootlegging. They like to report on these DD bootlegs to eBay in order to get the listings pulled down. Because buying a limited doll for $2k from a scalper who bought via a lottery system is "supporting" the manufacturer. What a bunch of assholes.

I like how people first say that the difference is soooo noticeable that absolutely anyone can distinguish the original from the recast. And then these same people say that artists who deal with the original every day, looking at them from all possible sides, cannot always distinguish the original from the rekast.

Rekasts are better: they are cheaper, they are more reasonable, they are better, they are of the same materials and even professional doll makeup artists cannot distinguish them from the originals.

Case closed.

Well with the Hairgoals' package you can make a small hole on the bottom with a pen or your keys so you can see the color of the can, since the bottom is rounded.
Also, the hack weight is not always accurate since it also deppends on the way the doll and accesories are positioned on the inside.
On a side note, the 3rd series and the Hairgoals series have box configurations, which means every character is in a specific place in the box. For Hairgoals Wave 1 there are 2 box configurations (one includes both Glitteratis and the second one that includes one Glitterati and the ultra rare witch). You can check Melody's playday or something on YouTube for the guide, however you'll need a fresh new open box that hasnt been messed with.
So yeah there are a few things you could try before buying one but it's still kinda tricky to guess the doll

I've decided to liquidate mist of my fashion doll collection and focus on just buying vintage Barbie clothes to dress my few keepers in. What's the best place to sell doll stuff quickly? I want it to be more goth or gothic. It was pretty goth or at least alternative when it first came. It kinda lost it over time and was completely gone in the reboot. Monster High being goth is one of the things that made it popular.

Fake news, if the reboot didn't happened they would have just continued with the movie line with eah, more released of older line and some new, the next wave of monster exchange who remplaced the basics and with the low sale we would have see more budget dolls with less articulations but mh would have slowly died like my scene anyway

Male characters need to be more easily available. In all the years MH was in stores I never once spotted an actual male doll on the shelf unless he was in a two pack with one of the girls. Only one I ever spotted was Draculaura, and her bf at Toys R Us.

I want to see less gross mutant monster dolls like those ugly dolls with four heads, and 12 eyes, attached to one body that has a lizard tail. I want them to have more of a Classic Universal Monsters look with a goth edge. Less color vomit outfits with gross gimmicks, and more sexy and fashionable outfits.

I'm going to hold off on getting this set until I see what the LE dolls look like. If they don't look too cheap I might just get a nice quality LE spirit Elsa doll, and call it a day. I hate Anna's new Queen look. I wasn't a fan of the Elsa's coronation day outfit from the first film because it seemed dark serious and gloomy to me, and that's basically what Queen Anna is now wearing. Anna is supposed to be playful and kinda goofy, and her new Queen look doesn't reflect that.

I know everyone loves this new set, but I'm really not a fan of the new stiff paper feeling materials they are using on the classic dolls now, and I really don't like the new Elsa face mold. Wheres her forehead?

Some of my dolls were completely ruined right out of the box. My student disembody Lagoona and W1 Clawdeen have the worst of it. Best way to treat is a complete reroot. All the other methods I've seen are just temporary fixes.

They were supposed to hit stores at the beginning of December for the Holidays, but most stores never got them. They were put on back order on targets website after selling out.

If you do want them it's best to buy them in person. Each box has a symbol that lets you know which doll is inside, but if you buy them online you might get doubles. One quick look at the comments on amazon will let you know that people are repackaging their doubles and returning them. People are getting opened and taped up boxes with used or dirty dolls online. All the dolls I bought in stores were perfect.

As happy as I am to see variant dolls for the very first time since the current toy company took over making dolls for the Disney Store this also means that this is the decline of the Disney Store dolls. The beginning of the end. When sales start to drop on characters wearing their original outfits companies fall back on gimmicks like including pets, and rings, and they usually lower the quality of the fabric used on the dolls. Soon we'll get Beach party Disney princess dolls, and maybe even new playline Masquerade party doll line. I'm all for this, but it's sad to learn that things are winding down.

Still better than those 3D pop out books that came with 40% less stuff than the original mini Animator dolls did. I was able to buy the original mini Elsa on sale and I've found at least seven of her complete with outfit while thrifting, but I still don't have mini Anna. I see they threw in the new olaf form the advent Christmas calendar with the freaky long tree hair. His body has those new Frozen 2 snowflakes painted on, but he didn't have them when Anna, and Elsa were toddlers which means he shouldn't have them. I do like that Anna's doll comes with a cute little mini bed for her doll. I'm getting her as soon as I spot her.
