The concept has existed in Lego since 2005 and it didn't even work properly then. I'm also fairly sure the ripcord is exact same part as last few waves of Ninjago had when they tried it.

There's a reason that helicopters have another rotor at the tail and all those things here can do is go out of control and crash.

So I don't build mocs or alter sets normally, so I kept the carriages as close to the original as possible, the tender is only slightly bigger than the original too

Tender, you need the 2x6 with the holes in for the top of the motorized wheels so it stays flush, the gaps in the bricks are for threading the wires through

yeah, that sucks. I always get hyped for these may the 4th sets because I'm a sucker for miniature scale Star Wars ships and dioramas. Shamefully I might still get this, last year in my country the price limit for the Hoth GWP was ridiculously low so if that's the case I'll grab it.

Yes it is overpriced.
The UCS Slave 1 (a far more iconic ship) had 324 more pieces, 4 minifigures (one with arm printing) instead of 1 generic pilot and was the same price as the new UCS A-Wing.

Any other curious pieces that were discontinued for a long time then suddenly reappeared?
That nozzle from the Fire Vulture flamethrower always struck me as odd and underutilized and when I checked bricklink it turned out that the piece was from 1995, then wasn't used for an entire decade until 2005/6 in a few Dino Attack and Exo Force sets only to be discarded again afterwards.

Greetings LG!

The Great Lego Space Quarantine contest of 2020 is underway.
The core concept is this: Design your own Space Theme. General guidelines are pretty loose, make something that could have served as a Space faction for LEGO in the late 80s and early 90s.
If you need inspiration and a sort of guide you can have a look at existing space themes from that period – Futuron, Blacktron, Ice Planet 2002, Exploriens, etc.

The rules:
1.Each participant may submit one build as an entry to the contest. A timestamp of your creation and the email I will then use to get in contact with you will be required if you end up winning. To submit just reply to this post with a picture that contains your build!
2.Modern parts and complex building techniques are allowed but the end result should look like something that could fit in with original sets and themes from that period. The idea is not to try to give the guys at Neo Classic Space a run for their money but instead attempt to do what the guys building the Space set prototypes from the 80s and 90s did.
3.Bonus points are awarded if the builds are stable and have play features (although these are not hard requirements they will help your build leap/zoom/swoosh ahead of the competition).
4.A submission consists of one build of any size. That means very small builds do qualify. I have decided to make this change at the request of a poster who asked for this last thread and presented solid arguments. There is no limit to how big you can go but this is not Shiptember. The emphasis should not be on number of parts but rather on the overall result.
5.Adding lore and backstory to your submission is strongly encouraged. Heck you can even make boxes and put the sets inside if you’re autistic enough. More effort is always better.
6.Digital builds are allowed but will start off with a severe disadvantage when judged.

So, what's the best set released in 1995? Look no further!
6195 Neptune Discovery Lab is one of the best bases Lego has ever put out. And yes, I am aware it has downsides - the price to part ratio is pretty bad, but the addition of the raised baseplates and large window pieces really do make the thing fit together in a fantastic way.
Smaller elements simply couldn't have added this much value in terms of completeness.
Oh, and did I mention it has a submarine that comes with it as well? Granted, it's not the best sub and I had to modify it quite a bit to allow it to carry seated divers in the back compartment.

Also comes loaded with features - large interior base where you can place figures, crane for moving crystals around, conveyor belt to process said crystals, a hidden stash where to place them and stockpile them, a secondary tower, refueling station and even a little marine friend - an octopus.
In terms of play features I really think they did a good mix and added a lot of variety. Combine that with the raised baseplates and you get something that I feel is much more than the sum of its parts.
Lastly, there are some downsides, besides from the sub, the set only comes with a crew of 4. Given the abundance of things to do and places to put figures in, I really feel they could have added one more guy.

That being said, this set was an incredibly fun building experience. My first ever lego set was the 1749 Paravane, so technically, Aquanauts were my first faction. Never had any other of their sets until now.
If you want underwater fun, accept no substitute.

I feel like a mondo set like this almost gets a pass because it's more of a playset than a build.

This was one of the precious few large sets I had when I was young.

I loved how the sub was an actual enclosed vehicle.
I often used the base for space stations, with the tower just reused wherever.

Sadly most of the arm pieces from the sub have either broken, or cracked to the point they don't hold together anymore.

I'm hoping whenever they do something castle again, even if it's like the pirate bay, the king is named Halbert. It would be really cool if they just made a regular castle set with the nexo knights. They could just use the heads as a subtle nod or the weapon types.

I really wanted them to do a season where the knights went back in time or sets of the villages which were pretty much medieval. There was so much lore potential, and they could have brought castle back in a fun way that might appeal to kids. It's such a shame it died before we even got a second wave of vampire-tron.

Sometimes when I'm buying minifig parts on Bricklink from stores in countries that don't speak English, I get this weird fear that if I buy a head and then use it on a custom minifig, that the figure won't be able to speak English and therefor won't be able to communicate with my other minifigs...

It's actually worse than that. They took the model, scaled it up, but since the doors and drones were seperate parts they didn't scale up properly, so the door hatches are weirdly small and don't cover much and there's just two floating drones up front

The reason is not that it's not possible, it's that it's not practical. With current technology it's more than doable, especially with electric motors, but if you wanted you would need to use portal axles and steering with some hydraulic box attached to each independent wheel.
Very similar to how telehandlers work.
So you'd take the transmission box ->portal axle in -> bevel gear shaft-> portal out
If you're willing to invest time, you can do anything.

Anyone have 42098 (car transporter) and then proceeded to buy 42093 (corvette)?

Like I want more cars for the transporter, but I'm having a hard time justifying paying $55 for the Corvette, when I only paid $200 for the truck AND a car (albeit slightly less detailed than the Corvette).

Then of course at the end of the day only 2 spots on the truck will be filled out of a possible 5.
I was considering buying two Corvette sets so I can build the B model hot rod, but it only uses like half the parts so I figured I could probably build one using my existing spares and spending $20ish on the individual parts I don't have.

I figure out that if I go into creative mode I can customise my character with everything unlocked, then keep that character going into survival mode even though all those things are locked again. Almost seems like a bug/oversight that you can exploit the system like that but at least it works
