its a pretty common rule to double the budget for marketing costs so its not really an opinion, lok up any critic worth their salt and they'll do the same thing, its a pretty common thing in hollywood

also in general sequels tend to make more than the previous installment so the fact it didn't is also pretty bad, especially considering the lego batman movie made a lot more

The ship is going to be overshadowed by the new Black Seas Barracuda, but the alt builds more than make up for it. Heck, these parts and builds could easily be integrated onto the Barracuda Bay island to give it a more flesh-out base without the use of the ship.

But on the other hand, I do want to make a medieval-style tavern for a group of thieves and/or adventurers to chill in. Might need to get two of these...

Throughout the film the sister is shown in real life to have caused three fights, stolen his figures and is incapable of letting him play with his portion of the Lego, as it's notable that she goes down to take pieces away from him which is why apocalypseburg is a thing.

The film wanted to be a story about how Finn needs to hold onto what he enjoyed in childhood and keep true to his child-like nature. Instead it became a commentary on how he should just bow down and agree to whatever his sister wanted.

Originally we would have had the whole team basically align with Rex and then some of them would have willingly joined the Sister who offered a much more pleasant and happy play-style rather than just shooting aliens and playing rock music.

The cameo of ruth bader ginsburg, who basically petitioned to legalize pedophilia, shows how out-of-touch some of the creators are.

The best part of Lego Movie 2 is Rex, admittedly his character at first seems incredibly basic, he's just meant to be a macho version of Emmett to push the idea that masculinity is toxic, right?

He is the only one to treat Emmett like the audience would have expected after the previous film. Emmett is the hero, Emmett saved the world and without Emmett they would not even exist because Emmett is effectively Finn's emotional story telling core.

As we see in the backstory, when Emmett is lost, Finn loses all desire to play and his figures are taken by his sister who continues to just do song/dance without any development or consideration towards Emmett.

The sister lacks understanding of characters, story or plot progression. She just wants them all to dance and have parties all the time. It may not be mind-control, but it is certainly an equivalent.

Rex is basically Emmett if the world continues to treat him like he's weak, pathetic and useless going as far as to directly address this directly by claiming he represents the loss of innocence.

He represents the Emmett that would have had to grow up in a world where he's not appreciated for the good he has done. A world where he's put down rather than treated like everyone else.

> Rex is a commentary on the loss of innocence caused by a reality that abandons him and treats him like trash.

Rex is the Lego Movie's version of Joaquin Phoenix's Joker and the most important part about him is that Rex actually desperately wishes that Emmett did not have to be like him and hopes by destroying the Sister's stuff he'd be able to avert the future where his friends abandon Emmett.

Lego should make more joint packs. Like the old technic packs of parts, but just a bulk box of joints. No need to pay for licensing (if using an outside IP), no need to pay for designing, no need for focus grouping, no need for boxing, or purchasing shelf space. Just sell joints directly from the factory in a cardboard box with basic prints.

Pretty common. It's seen just like any other toy by short sighted, alcoholic, frontal lobe missing parents. The children don't respect the toy because the parents teach them not to, and it ends up getting thrown out.

The brilliance of Lego is their attempt at using licenseshit to make their money while producing original products for real fans and children.
UCS is cool and a lot of the builds intricate, but look at the money. Insane. Lego knows that and they use it to their advantage. Make money on scale models, use that money to innovate elsewhere.

if I remember correctly it was supposed to be a group for actual Vic Vipers, which got turned into "everything with two front wings, two backwings, a tail and a cockpit". And it wasn't even supposed to be just strictly Lego. Same with a lot of other sets
The only problem is that it runs the risk of becoming one of the moden mech sets that are far too overbuilt whereas exoforce is incredibly underbuilt.

They just released an amazing one-off pirate ship that's a modern remake of the classic Black Seas Barracuda set that can be rebuilt as a tavern made out of a wrecked ship. It's currently out of stock but they'll be making more and it will be available again in a couple of months.

If the movie barely broke even, it's a horrible investiment. They could've used the time, the artists, the render farms, and everything else to profit much more. Even with B movies.

It's alright. A classic look.
If you want something more realistic i'd make the rocky edge of as much slopes as possible so it looks like eroded or cracked rocks, but the flat green planes are just grassy 'smooth' level surfaces. Hard/soft so to speak.

Can I get some examples of playability features in lego sets besides trap doors and catapults/projectile launchers? The more novel the better. Can be a concrete example from a specific set or a recurring trend like the aforementioned trap doors/catapults.

That would be allot of time and resources but I have thought of it and even so this shelf has problems. Due to no support beams in the middle each shelf slowly curves downwards. Maybe in the near future if I have time I could fix and decorate it for aesthetic purposes.

What do you do with your LEGO? I like building in general, and MOCing (although that takes a lot of time and puzzling for me). I tried BrikWars, but quite frankly the community is half-dead and half-asshole.

Honestly the Monkie Kid sets look bad ass and i'd love to have them but i don't know any of those characters. Is there going to be a Monkie Kid TV Show? I love Ninjago because of the characters and the story. What's the deal with monkey kid? And what's the deal with those prices?

For me, what the theme has going for it is mechs, monsters, and fantastical vehicles, the kind of things I like to build. And the bad guys are usually really cool. I'm hopefully going to ease people's minds about the prices. I did some comparisons with existing sets on the shop site where the pics were found and it seems that all Lego sets on there are sold at inflated prices, I guess Lego thinks that they can charge more in China? Anyway, I'm confident that the US/EU prices won't be anything out of the ordinary.

I am pleasantly surprised by the sets themselves, not what I was expecting but they definitely seem well built.

The prices on Instagram are probably wrong because the leakers just found the sets with the prices at the site of Hong Kong toy store and applied the current conversion rate to US Dollars. But Lego is priced higher in China due to a different tax system. Normal Ninjago sets like Unagami's temple (71712) cost over 90 US Dollars there (if you convert it directly), but around here it's just 79,99 $ US/€. So the cheapest set in the monkey kid wave would be less than 30 $...

To be honest anon if they lowered the prices i still don't think most of these would be affordable. What are you going to kick the White Dragon Motorcycle to? 20 Dollars? No it has 4 figures 2 small builds and a cool motorcycle. Lego plans to sell these stuff starting at 25-30 dollars at least. These aren't going to sell well in anywhere other than China or America. In my country most children can't even afford the smallest set from a line. These are amazing build but i don't know what Lego is thinking.

The sets DO look massive and expensive.
The Quake Mech from Ninjago for comparison was 90 bucks, too, on release and the Bull Mech looks to be about the same size and complexity.
The building and small mech in the Monkey King Mech alone would be worth 25-30$.

Monkey King (Sun Wukong) and Monkie Kid are in the same set and there’s no visible transformation function, I no longer think Kid is Sun Wukong - I think Kid is his son. And this theme is going to explore his adventures with his friends as he tries to live up to his father’s legacy - which would also explain why Pigsy is the only character who looks more-or-less true to legend, because he’s the actual Pigsy, a friend of his father’s who is taking a mentor role. (And apparently opened a pork restaurant, at which Kid has a part-time job.)

The first arc of the animated series is about protecting the city and civilians from the invasion of the Demon Bull (Mech) King's army and the evil demon sorceress behind him (Princess Iron Fan). It's nice to have a few screaming and running civilians to complete the scene

O crap this reminds me of a dream I had where there was a wall full of classic bonkles on a wall, I was deciding to buy this Nokama set because I had little money. But then I came across a stand with masks that were being painted over, some were either fake lego or made out of wood. Then everything fell.

Greetings LG!

The Great Lego Space Quarantine contest of 2020 is underway.
The core concept is this: Design your own Space Theme. General guidelines are pretty loose, make something that could have served as a Space faction for LEGO in the late 80s and early 90s.
If you need inspiration and a sort of guide you can have a look at existing space themes from that period – Futuron, Blacktron, Ice Planet 2002, Exploriens, etc.
The rules:
1.Each participant may submit one build as an entry to the contest. A timestamp of your creation and the email I will then use to get in contact with you will be required if you end up winning. To submit just reply to this post with a picture that contains your build!
2.Modern parts and complex building techniques are allowed but the end result should look like something that could fit in with original sets and themes from that period. The idea is not to try to give the guys at Neo Classic Space a run for their money but instead attempt to do what the guys building the Space set prototypes from the 80s and 90s did.
3.Bonus points are awarded if the builds are stable and have play features (although these are not hard requirements they will help your build leap/zoom/swoosh ahead of the competition).
4.A submission consists of one build of any size. That means very small builds do qualify. I have decided to make this change at the request of a poster who asked for this last thread and presented solid arguments. There is no limit to how big you can go but this is not Shiptember. The emphasis should not be on number of parts but rather on the overall result.
5.Adding lore and backstory to your submission is strongly encouraged. Heck you can even make boxes and put the sets inside if you’re autistic enough. More effort is always better.
6.Digital builds are allowed but will start off with a severe disadvantage when judged.

Prizes: A prize pool of roughly 200USD will be split amongst 3 winners. Depending on how many people sign up there might be honorable mentions. Two of the winners will be chosen by me based on my own biased opinion. For fairness’ sake a third winner will be selected from the remaining submissions by a random draw.
Timeframe for submission: Until May 18th, 14:00 PM. After that I’ll be taking 1-2-3 to judge and announce the winners.
I will answer questions and provide other clarifications as needed. I will spam the contest just once per thread until the submission period is over.
