Finished the Monkeyfucker mech and I have mixed feelings about it.
>mech isn't actually as big as you'd expect for the price and as a whole it's comparable to Kai's Fire Mech in height plus the head and there's nothing really special about it in terms of building techniques - take the sidebuilds away and this would be an 80-90 Dollar/Euro set
>the build for the head is pretty damn fantastic and intricate but it's too bad that the nose isn't printed - take the horns away and it kinda looks like a Gundam, though, without the nose
>as expected, shit leg articulation - what you see on the box is what you get and while you CAN detach the large knee balljoint the range of motion and stability of the two small ones on the back aren't worth it
>arms are also always at an outward angle due to the shoulder joint design and I took out one 1x2 plate with a bar on each of them (now located on the feet) to give them slightly more articulation
>oh god, those skeleton arms holding the golden armor plates... I can already see me buying replacement parts for those pieces of shit - same for the cockpit hatch that is only connected to two clip pieces in dark brown
>the shiny plastic flags and skirt pieces look pretty cheap, like one of those crappy handheld pinwheel things you can buy at the carnival. They're also not printed on the back and are just plain gold
>in fact, the whole thing looks kinda messy and tacky in terms of colors and distribution and that's already WITHOUT the stickers
>all the sidebuilds are freaking great but definitely should've been their own little sets instead - without having seen the show, they contribute absolutely nothing to the mech and would've worked fantastic on their own with the bull mech plus house being a 25 bucks model and the cloud and scenery going for a tenner

Also, maybe I'm imagining things but the parts felt extremely stiff and as if they had WAY too much clutch power and poor tolerances, especially those small 1x2 arches.

Is isopropyl alcohol okay to use on Lego pieces? I know it's safe on walls and I've used it on controllers but I know some chemicals can fuck up ABS

I know that more traditional minifigures would be preferred for myself as well and most adult fans. But I think at some point we need to judge the theme for what it is and not what we would have preferred it to be. I don't see a value to having a smaller set with Mario in it, because you need some decent amount of "level" for him to interact with for it to be worthy anything. If Mario was available stand alone, he'd probably cost $25 to $30, and then you'd have to buy a $20+ set for him to interact with.

More generally, I think there is a tendency among LEGO fans to try to argue that a product they don't like won't sell well, for various reasons. Probably happens in other fandoms as well. But to me it is not really that productive of a discussion, because we consumers never have that much data on what sells well. And it tends to start from a place of justifying an opinion of the product. For myself, I am cautiously optimistic about LEGO Mario and will get at least a couple sets to try it out. If nothing else, it is introducing some interesting parts.

I personally didn’t like it that much. I got the whole line for 200$ some months was selling them on eBay and it wasn’t worth it. Classic castle was better IMO

Something quite severe that I forgot to mention which already bothered me during the construction of the mech and LDD pretty much confirmed my suspicions:
There's an illegal connection going on at the hip joints.

Those large Technic ratchet joints have a slight curve at the point where the Technic bar goes over into the ratchet part so the part at that point isn't flat.
However, that didn't bother the designers and LDD where the part on top clips right through the curve so the piece doesn't actually fit properly.

It's the area in the center of >>8168853 where the corner of the brick clips into the curve of the joint because it was put too close to it.
On the Demon Bull King they left that area free.

I bought the Flintstones set. I fucking love it.
But it wasn't enough. I needed that Mystery Machine. Ordered a set off of Blicklink for a total of $81. Word of advice, if you see a set that catches your eye, FUCKING BUY IT. This is why I got the Flintstones set, since it was still being sold normally.
Now if only Lego could do more Hanna Barbara sets.

You can push one of the panels forward to extend the cannon, this also fires it when you get to the full length of travel.
It turns out that the ball at the back of a cannon is exactly the width of a stud. when you retract the cannon, the ball will sit in the hole of a technic brick at the back of the satellite.
As the cannon is moved forward, the ball remains because it has clutch with the technic hole.
When you get to the full length of travel, the ball is pulled completely out of the hole, and fires the cannon.

I was playing it a little and it just doesn't have much of a hook to it. Most he characters are recognizable classic minifigs, but very few are iconic enough where I'm going to get invested enough to try and roll specific characters. I was hoping there would be more to the game besides combat, since it's lego. But that's all it really is in the end.
Also the AP/Energy recharge is very strange (the currency that lets you keep playing for a given period of time before you have to stop/pay). It seems to think the player is going to want to devote like 3-4 sessions of play to the game a day. I feel like most phone games are set up for one big session a day, which is more reasonable.

Only set with that type and color of spiral stairs, the radio, dolphin and printed dinner plates with food were also pretty unique.

Sidewalk Cafe was also an amazing set despite its small size. The ice cream salon with printed ice cream flavors is still one of my favorites.

I got the set when I was 7, as a get-well gift when I ended up in the hospital.

Used the spare baseplate from the order to make a Hidden Side version with the instructions and some different parts. Was a fun project, I know not everyone likes Hidden Side but turning classic sets into possessed variants has a certain charm to it. Not like the folks designing for TLG would know anything about that.

I finally realised why Paradisa colorsheme is so good. It does not use pink bricks. The pink pieces are only specialized ones, making colorsheme unique and not forced.

I made a guide split into promo sets and regular retail sets. Egypt theme was my fav, someone should make similar chart for Junge and the rest.

I find it amazing how there are 10 different sets where 6 of them have unique build/temple/tomb/structure. Even Pharaoh Quest didn't have as many unique builds, it was just a Pyramid, Sphinx, Obelisk and a shrine. Meanwhile Adventurers have 3 different tombs. You can make tiny LEGO Valley of the Kings with these!

Narrator: It happened one decade after the death of the great Ramses the fourth. After many others had failed previously, grave robbers broke into Ramses’ burial temple, greedy for gold. They stole everything they could find, and in the end even opened the sarcophagus of the dead pharaoh. They finally found it there, in the headdress of the mummy, the most valuable possession that the pharaoh had in life: A giant ruby. This jewel wasn’t just priceless, it was rumoured to have magic powers. The grave robbers didn’t get very far with their treasure though. It is told the curse of the pharaoh struck them. All but one of them died from a mysterious poison, still in the tomb of Ramses. The survivor escaped with the ruby, hiding it somewhere safe in the desert. Once done, he too died from the bite of an eerie red snake. No one had ever seen a snake of this type in the area. The stories of the ruby survived however, and since then researchers and adventurers have searched for the magic ruby of Ramses.

Tried to do the nose without the need of the damn sticker.
I simply turned the face around and slapped one of those round brown 1x2 plates from the tail under the quarter circle tiles.
The chin now also hides the rather thin neck.
Looks more like a lion now, though...

Kino set. I spent $170 on pic related since I've wanted it for a long time. Got it as a unplayed with display model with everything including box. Though was still pretty pricey since I'm cheap. $80 is a steal on that bad boy. Probably the best baseplate to ever come in a set.

I legit hate those mario figures. So much so that it illicits an unreasonable anger in me that I can not explain.
