For mech stuff I would always recommend Exo-force, but of course those are harder to get these days. For stuff that's still in production, ninjago has some pretty decent mechs and the dragons would probably appeal to his interest in kaiju

Rebuilding several 80s/90s/early 2000s sets. Right now I have pirate ship nearly complete in like 90%. Missing few pieces. After rebuilding it, I will tear it apart and wash super-dirty-30-years-old-worn LEGO. In addition Hogwards Express 1st edition (perhaps the only licenshit I have and solely because of train) missing 2 pieces.

How do you find the inner strength to pull a MOC, especially one that's well built apart?
I've managed to take some older, lower quality MOCs apart and rebuild them or replace them but the ones I'm even moderately satisfied with I can't bring myself to take apart and salvage for parts.
This means that despite the fact I have quite a large collection of parts to MOC with I am constantly limited by part count and part type.
Teach me your ways.

It's like ripping off a bandaid. Just take it apart as fast as you can without thinking about it. Once it's been reduced to a loose pile of parts it won't be so bad. It's that intermediary stage of "I can still put it back together!" that's dangerous.

I do not regret. If I was able to get something this good, then I will be able to make something even better. However, while it's not about MOCs, there are some sets I like do much that almost never take them apart.

Also, I take pics of almost everything from multiple angles, so it's not really gone and I can duplicate it later. The annoyance of having something sitting around way too long collecting dust and taking up useful pieces also plays a part.

The real reason of these eye patches was to make sure one eye can accomodate to darkness so when they go underneth the deck, they can see better in dark rooms.

I think putting a breastplate on Zuko was probably a bad choice since he ended up just looking fat, but in general I love those breastplates on proper heavy armoured figures like knights.

Have to add that the movie set alt-build on the back of the box is incredibly evocative. I love it when Lego does wrecked planes. The Creator Seaplane has been calling to me because of the comfy island wreckage build.

set looks nice fully built but there's a fair few places where I felt that there were cut corners that wouldn't be there if it was standalone instead of a 3 in 1 creator set

nothing massive just spots where there wasnt an extra flat piece pinning something down, or a barrel piece that could've been used to prop up gaps on the brickbuild hull
easily fixed with a few extra pieces, just a bit annoying
oh and the masts build order seems a bit wrong, like everything should've been put together before placing the mast on the hull because the fucker wobbles like hell when attaching sails

Can anyone tell me about breakage issues with reddish brown Lego around 2010? I bought a couple of new Prince of Persia sets recently because they are kino and so far a 1x4 tile cracked in half. When trying to put a 6L bar with stop ring into a 1x1 cone, the bottom end of the bar snapped off in the cone. And most recently pic related's legs were super tight and hard to move out of the box. I tried moving them back and forth trying to loosen them up and one leg just snapped right off. What is this shit?

Anybody else seen these? I was at a different target than I usually go to and found european sets with label stickers on the box to fit with the American regulations and style. I guess Lego is sending out european sets here to make up for the mexican closure.

Okay so I fucking love the minifigure from the OLLLLDDDD ass T-16 skyhopper, but after looking at prices for it, it was AIDS. So instead I looked at whole sets. Lo and behold there's a great looking set, minifig included, for like 15 bucks. Only like 7 more than I would've paid for the fig alone. So here's the dirty
Pros:

Yes. I picked up a small Minecraft set with the stickers because I thought it was neat. The smaller boxes look a little better with the bigger art. I also was thinking it must be something to do with the regular supply chains for NA being messed up. My take away was that I'm glad to be in America where I can get a parts count on the front of the box!

What's the best set to buy if you just want a ton of gray pieces to build castles? Preferably something with lots of non-specialized light gray brick pieces.

I was thinking about picking up a few Flintstones Houses and selling the figures out of them.

No local lego store so I can't do cups. And the site is kinda crazy on pricing. Just regular 1x2-1x8 bricks and arches average out at like 25-30 cents per piece.

Whereas buying sets and selling the figures, you can get things for less than 10 cents per piece.

I sometimes bulk bricks on ebay. It's often cheaper than bricklink or B&P. Lots of sellers have bundles of, say 25, 50, 75 or 100 1x6 light bley bricks for a set price.

Appreciate the feedback. I've worked out a partial solution. I'm going to digitize them (when I have time to do that).
That should fix it as the build is still saved and I can remake it if needed.
It will take a long time though, as I've got quite a few MOCs made (maybe 50+?). Some builds are smaller and pictures of them will suffice but the big stuff requires a lot of work since I don't usually do "standard solutions" and think up things on the spot.
Being forgetful doesn't help either.

If you live in a country that's had LEGO for a while scour both flea markets/garage sales and online marketplaces.
Most ebay lots are pretty well priced as it as a lot of people know about it and drive the prices high. Where you want to go are the ebay-like sites that every country has where the density of LEGO enthusiasts is much lower and you can get away with cheaper buys.
When at a flea market/garage sale be aware that most people do not know what they are selling and you can negotiate/get stuff for very cheap.

A month or so ago, I got enough money to afford this, but Lego's site says that it's temporarily out of stock. A few threads ago someone mentioned that "temporarily out of stock" for a set this old was just a tease and once it's discontinued, they'd just discontinue it. Then I got a catalog with this set included. Everything was up to date, so if they have this set in the book, it is going to be back in stock or am I just hopeful that I don't have to save even more money to pay out the nose from some scalper scum?

I actually managed to find the Trolls polybag at Woolworths of all places. I doubt you'd be able to snag it now though, they've pretty much cleared out all their Trolls merch.

Also can we talk about how ebay auctions for lego are USELESS THEY ARE FUCKING USELESS!

If you bid on Lego lots three things happen EVERY TIME.

1) You either win the lot but you pay at the money for the market price or more

2) Your max bid causes the winner to buy at the market price or more

3) You lost without the conditions of rule 2.

YOU NEVER GET THE DEAL YOU NEVER GET A DEAL ALWAYS A SNIPE BID TO ENSURE ONE OF THE PREVIOUS CONDITIONS HAPPEN THERE IS NEVER A FUCKING DEAL!

I see sets listed at auction that are at a higher price then buy it now that actually include the box and instructions and why you ask because of the first two conditions I mentioned.

The art of the deal for Lego is dead the melting pot of “investors”, hoarders, resellers, collectors, “youtube reviewers”, and the average joe make it so getting any sort of deal at auction is a JOKE.

The battle of the snipes at the end is always funny too personally I use gixen but sniping on ebay doesn’t really ensure anything because of rules 1 and 2 in particular still apply.

Best offer is honestly the only way to get any type of deal or bargain lots are dead.

Also the fact that people like Just2good, mandr, and Solidbricks studios will casually drop over 10k a week on ebay “hauls” means they probably are bidding against you at least at some point

Those old space suits, and the old brass/gold hood for the helmet were peak space lego
Though I definitely will say some of the other lego space men over the last two decades are quite nice, none really ever hit the same as space port

1995 and 1999 were my fav space series. I know 'classic space' has massive fanbase but I liked NASA-inspired sets more. It was the era of last space shuttles.
1995 had better shuttle with tank and supporting rockets but 1999 series had better features and smaller sets that could fill gaps.

Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but Space Port seems to have a combination of realism and 90s Lego style that really sets it apart. At least one of the scientist figs shares a face with one of the Life on Mars astronauts, so as a kid I imagined that the LoM mission was the culmination of Space Port operations.

The only City Space theme that comes close for me is the current Mars subtheme. The other two recent ones felt lifeless & paint by numbers.

2. Now we went back to rockets like this one >>8213806 from 1999 set
3. Heading towards Mars, hopefully by 2030.

Yes and no. I still find and get some good deals (i.e. below Bricklink and sometimes even below RRP) on older themes, so in some way I disagree. The more 'hated' or obscure themes (especially early 2000s stuff) can be found really cheaply and sellers are just trying to get rid of it rather than make some money off it. I got 2 BNIB KKII sets for almost half the price of Bricklink's cheapest just this week, so I still think there's good listings out there, you've just got to bide your time for them to crop up.

But yeah I've also seen videos on YouTube and online articles on how investing in Lego is the hot new thing that'll make you a cool million in a year and now everyone with a bit of money to throw around (regardless of whether they like Lego or not) is 'investing' in Lego and just buying loads of shit and expecting it to rise in value by like 300%. Not to mention those articles even convince parents selling their child's second hand Lego that this Lego is now worth more than what they paid for. There's some people on eBay selling their child's incomplete, chewed Lego sets for even more than what the set cost new, and this is for themes that aren't even popular and were released a couple of years ago. Going back to KKII, it's always sold for pennies on eBay because there's very few people after it - I swear a couple of years ago I was the only buying it in my country because I never ran into anyone outbidding me. Now these sets are selling quite quickly and regularly, and the amount of deals are becoming harder to find. eBay has always attracted retards that don't know how to use Bricklink so sets tend to sell for more on eBay, but I've seen some go for way above the Bricklink price and just wonder why. Congrats, you've just overpaid for a set you'll never be able to sell for a profit or even break even.

Auctions on eBay are a joke because people only ever snipe now so you have to submit in the last second and hope you didn't get outbid.

One massive, enormous, under the radar set that was really disappointing to be a sendoff to the whole space port theme was Master Builders Mars Mission. The theme was really just a parts bin throw away, but I felt like it fit the City Space theme better than Life on Mars (which was great) and Mars Mission (which I did not care for). What also perplexes me about it is that I never saw any more of these Master Builder sets outside of the one Bionicle one until 2013.
Which I never fucking heard about Master Builder Academy until just now. These are quite cool, whats with lego and making perfectly good themes/lines/whatever, and just dumping it out of nowhere? This isn't a themed line it's just a name for a group of sets, but what happens is they drop the fucking name, and make up a new one so multiples of the same thought process exist under a hundered themes instead of just one.
God I hate that shit.

Yeah I'm Halo anon, I recommend BrickRepublic if you're in Canada or BrickMania if you're in the US; both of those sites have a huge selection of brickarms including Halo stuff

The AR/BR/smg/silenced smg/magnum and shotgun are all great, not sure about the plasma pistol/needler/energy sword because I don't care for Covenant shit

I do want an energy sword tho, but they're never in stock

BrickForge is the best for armour, they're the OGs of 3rd party Halo accessories and they look great, you need to buy the helmet/torso/visor separately, and I recommend either gold or bronze for the visor

I'll post another photo of the weapons too

They all scale pretty well, the Needler and Halo 4 BR were freebies; I recommend getting the AR, shotgun and magnum in gunmetal as it's the truest to the source material

any ideas for this very early WIP of a spaceship? I had two of those old lights and sound rocket pieces and was looking for a way to put them together on a build. After I figured out the way you can see, which is both super sturdy and slim, I decided to go all the way with the build. I'm not sure exactly how to cap off the cockpit though since the angles are so weird. I figure that mixel joints are the only way to cover those angles.

I'll take some actual good pictures if I get it futher along. Color scheme will be red, white, black, and blue, like the OG gundam kinda scheme

Lego's policy is to use the least amount of plastic possible, which maximizes their profits. Reinforcing sections was a requirement in the past for two main reasons: the plastic wasn't considered strong enough to withstand the crushing blows of little kids banging on it all day, and the molding machine wasn't physically capable of producing a piece without the extra injected plastic areas.

As technology has improved, so has Lego's ability to cut corners. Reinforcing tubes that were once solid are now hollow, because every little bit of plastic not spent on that piece is plastic that can be used on the next piece, and when you're manufacturing a billion bricks a year, that shit adds up.

You should only use pieces from the 80s and 90s because after that the plastic quality went downhill

Bricklink, brickset, etc. will have date windows based on when the piece first and last appeared

Fun fact: the hollow area of the new plate underside tubes is the same size as a standard pinhole, which means you can stick all kinds of tiny pieces like minidoll hair ribbons and flame pieces to them.

Speaking of (literal) corner cutting, the 2x2 bricks with a click joint on the side seem to have been redesigned this summer to use two teeth less so instead the opposite piece now locks in the gap between the teeth which feels not as secure as before.

Is the Lego City police department overfunded?
It seems like every year the city approves funding for a new police station and weirdly large numbers of vehicles. Especially incredibly niche things "police boats" for some reason and don't even get me started on the "sky police". Despite this though Lego city is filled to the brim with robberies despite how well equipped the police are, do they need all this funding because of how high the crime-rates are or is it just really inefficiently run?

Ghost Costume Guy could have a funny ghost-themed t-shirt print on his torso that's not visible in promo images. Selection is limited and you usually have to buy batches of 10 or 50 but you can find some Halo weapons on Ali. If you're looking for UNSC in bulk it's your best bet, they have H3 BRs, SMGs, DMRs, railguns and Magnums in several stores and I've also found ARs, shotguns and sticky detonators in some of the 100+ random weapons lots. Color selection is typically limited to black or gunmetal which fits UNSC pretty well.

For Covenant kit I've only ever seen energy swords, and almost always in the same color options (have seen trans-blue somewhere at least once but I can't find it). BrickArms or one of their resellers is your best bet as the other anon said. Gonna pull out my small arms inventory in a bit and get a pic or two.

Deals are hard to come by, your best chance are people who don't know what they are selling or people who need to get cash fast.
The problem is that the fact that lego holds value has reached most parents and as you mentioned a lot of them will sell trash sets in poor condition for a LOT of cash.
