On smaller boards, or formerly small boards, like /fit/ /co/ /k/ /toy/ etc it was mostly done for what they're supposed to be used for, specific people with good info or decent content using a trip so they couldn't be impersonated.
As time went on,and cross baorders polluted teh place, with no respect for board culture (lurk moar, bannign shitposters, etc) these things got lost to time.
It's the slow backslide of our community because we don't have passionate mods anymore. They're so out of touch and hands off that only the most egrigious shit gets banned or removed unless it infringes copyrights.
