Just picked up this 3 in 1 for $30 used. Was complete with the exception of the hot dog cart. Guy also had 16 figures from a city set #60230 and accessories that he threw in for another $10. I also got pizza guy as a bonus. How'd I do??

Why people buy stuff, build it, and sell it immediately I'll never know. I'll be combining this with another 3 in one to make a really nice modular for my building.

Apparently its the fact that the set is licensed meaning it is somehow (and this is a stretch) equivalent to the actual vehicle. And because there technically isn't any Search and Rescue V-22 Osprey in real life but only the ones used by the military plus the German Peace Society plus some petition that got 150 votes plus 3 people rioting outside a Lego store is what got Lego to cancel it.

Unfortunately in that case it wasn't licensed. Just a jet that was extremely inspired by the F-35 but without any licensing Lego excused it as some air show aircraft. Now the Sopwith Camel on the other hand

Also, the "Deutsche Friedensgesellschaft" also complaint, that the Osprey is/was a licensed set, so the producer of the reallife model gets money too
With ww1 or 2 era planes (and other military vehicle), there are no copyrights/trademakr issues, so anyone can technically make a toy/modell of them

The "rescue"-version is fake, there is no civil-version or use for the Osprey, it's only used in the military
But afaik, it's often used to rescue infantry, so yeah, it is a "rescue" vehicle

I don't really agree with the founder's stance on military toys because of his experience in WWII but if that's his conviction that he believes in then so be it. But in saying that going by that logic it would go against that very rule set up by Lego. Especially if Lego goes ahead and makes a WWII era fighter plane. A vehicle from the era that made the founder to write down the rule in the first place then I'm sure he wouldn't like that at all. But of course he's dead long ago and Lego doesn't give a shit about it, clearly this Osprey debacle is because they don't want any of those shitheads that like to go by the books and earn a bad reputation as a result of not living up to their rules. Just change the rules and allow military sets to flourish cause times have changed.

That was not his claim. His claim was that every set would have black minifigure in it. I know that LEGO isn't american company but in America that is an under the table rule for many IPs in many forms of media right now. You need a black person in your movie, your game, your tv show. Its an unspoken rule. I'm not saying lego will absolutely do that but I think there is a real chance it might.

Not him. I agree on a technical level. There is unmistakable quality in the larger sets. My dissatisfaction from star wars lego is mostly in that they just keep remaking the same sets. But I get it. The Star Wars license exists for one reason: Lego wanted some star wars money. So they remake the sets that sell indefinitely. And then they get more Star Wars money. Its a successful formula, but a little bland.

I had both the DR1 and the all brown/grey variant of >>8302987 (I think it was an earlier version of the kit). They were two of my favourite ever builds. It's not a consistent rule and I agree, Star Wars is all about dismemberment and violence. For some reason, Lego only seems to believe that modern military stuff is prohibited, which becomes more stupid when you consider the entirety of the Indiana Jones line (probably okay to them because "fantasy"). My only real issue with it is that the license killed the adventures theme. And even though they haven't made Indiana Jones in well over a decade, the adventures theme remains dead. In the end I don't think it was worth it because Adventures is top tier lego.

It had been absent for five years when Indiana Jones was released. However I'm in the camp that if the Indiana Jones license was *not* acquired, Lego would have made an Adventures or an Adventures-like theme anyway. It also took 1-2 years for lego to cement the deal with Indiana Jones license and then make the sets. It was likely 2 years after Adventures ended that they began the discussion of how to bring the theme back. The fact that we haven't had adventures since -outside of a CMF shout out- is disappointing to me. But yeah that was a really cool set. Check bricklink for prices.

I'd argue the Pharoah's Quest theme (which came after Indiana Jones theme was retired) was a sort of Adventures spiritual successor in many ways. Shame it wasn't expanded upon, I'm guessing it didn't do as well as they wanted. I'll probably keep hold of my Temple Escape set for now, I think a licensed set from a dead theme (unlikely to ever be revisited) can probably go up in value a little more - seems like I could get maybe $400 for it mint in box though?

The Nazi plane only looks evil because of its Nazi marking, which are absent in the set. Also, it's a fictional plane that didn't have an existence outside of being a movie prop (I think it's more problematic that it's a part of a gruesome death scene)
The Osprey looks harmless because of the white test livery. But the actual thing is purely military. Even the orange markings that the set uses to make it look less military is fictional and doesn't exist. The set is called V-22 Osprey not Tilt Rotor Rescue Craft. It is in fact contemporary military hardware.

I'm pretty sure his intent was more along the lines of 20th century war, since he specifically didn't want the first castle to be gray because the parts could be used to make tanks. It's flawed, since you then need to decide whether it's about violence or just the idea of modern war, but I believe that was his intent.

mine had a plate and on it all the bricks you could get with a number and you have to tell the store workers how many of which piece you want. Doesn't seem to be universal though, I've heard of other places (UK I think?) where you get disposable gloves for the PaB wall.
Build-a-Minifig is not available in my store.

Recently got this and have to say I'm amazed by the details they put into it. I had to make the axles, and the internals of the engine up to the pistons even though they won't be seen. I haven't bought or built lego in years but seeing this really made me want to get back into it.

It has two modes.
One where it plays the next note in a song regardless of the key you press and one where it self plays.

You CAN NOT attempt to create a piece of music by playing different keys.

What are lego's rubber bands made of, and where can I buy more of them? I have a couple of custom builds using rubber bands for suspension and the like, and normal rubber bands get dried out and crack after only a month or so, while I have lego bands I've had from some 2001 spherical robot sets still as fresh as if they were brand new.

Hydrogen peroxide (or Oxy-Clean) and sunlight works because old Lego pieces are infused with a flame-retardant chemical that starts to turn brown with age (thus causing the white pieces to turn yellow/tan). Exposure to the chemical and sunlight combined "resets" the chemicals on the surface of the pieces. They'll eventually start to yellow again, but if you do it right you can make them look brand-new for a couple more decades.

Apparently Lego doesn't add this to the plastic anymore so in theory, white pieces produced from 2019 on will not have a problem turning yellow with age.

Kinda the point of technic. The internals are simplified but better to fill it with something neat that works in a similar manner instead of just being an empty shell.
Usually you can pop a hood/hatch to reveal the engine too.
